I always find the ability of translators to make wordplay in one language work in another to be impressive. “The needle sewed/sued the thread” is not a wordplay in Korean as the words for sewed and sued are not similar. In Korean, the joke is “Kimbap and sesame oil were fighting. Kimbap ended up getting caught by the police. Do you know why? Because sesame oil sued it / is savory.” and the wordplay is on sue / savory. Doing a good job translating a show is not about just a straight translation, it’s about keeping humor, metaphor or idiom in place even when they don’t translate well.
As a translator myself I can only 100% agree with this. And I think we are still a bit away from Artificial Intelligence taking over our job because - at this moment - AI doesn't "understand" these kind of subtleties yet.

Thanks for this. How about the "sentence" joke? There must be some other kind of wordplay going on there too. And how about the "kayak, noon, racecar" bit that Woo Young Woo uses to introduce herself? In English, those kind of words are called palindromes. They can be phrases too, as in "What did the first man say to Eve?" "Madam, I'm Adam." So how does Woo's self-introduction translate literally in Korean? I'm sure we're all missing a lot of the wit in this show because of the language barrier.

This Korean Drama is so well written and intelligent done that I look forward to Season 2. I believe that it will win the comparison to the Emmy for the drama and special acting by Park Eu Bin and others. I am disappointed there weren't more than 16 Episodes because I was totally invested in this series compared to others. Thank you for putting so much energy and not compromising the value of the Autism Spectrum for viewers to understand not be totally overwhelmed by this illness. However, I enjoyed this show more than The King's Affection which was one of my favorites. The actress that plays "Attorney Young Woo's mother Atty Taes I could see the grin of a mother being proud of her daughter who had a love interest relationship. It made her seem human and proud that despite her Autism condition she can lure a man to like her so much and be in a relationship. It does happens. However, I believe the mother is especially proud that she was able to up one up "twice" in one of the episodes where she was in charge of the defense. It was great to see the two mother and daughter arguing over the law and seeing the daughter genius top the mother twice. So that was to me exciting to watch. Also, I see the parallels between the mother and her daughter and son have similar perfectionism about keeping things in line or order. Amazing that it was thrown in so there could not be any confusion that Atty Woo was born to Atty Taes.
It was a nice touch to visualize Youngwoo's thoughts while the writer was still halfway writing the series as suggested by the director. Really made such a huge difference and a nice way to understand Youngwoo's thought process.
Han Seon-yeong (the Hanbada CEO) also has a history with Young-woo's dad when they were in law school. So presumably all three knew each other at that time.
This is something I would like to see somehow in season 2, like a flashback when they were all in law school. I wish they can explore more on Han-Seon Vs. Tae-su
Don’t place too much hope on 2nd season. I saw one youtube channel claiming that Eun Bin is unsure since she is afraid of not meeting audiences’ expectation.
It could be they screwed up with the scene when Park Eu Bin wasn't sure if she could take the part due to the difficulties that comes from being Autism? So don't always believe what you read which can be misinterpreted. I do hope there is a Season 2 and that all the actors will be back too including Attorney Jung who I just love is mentoring of Attorney Woo in which he realize she has to have the last word in most things but is like a proud father that shows emotional support for his genius attorney Woo.

At 1.03 you mentioned that WYW's father was currently reviewing for the Bar exam. Not sure if that's true cos there was one episode (I think it's when WYW was in hospital) where he explained to his daughter that after graduating with the Law degree he never took the Bar because he did not want to bump into Tae Sumi and did everything unrelated to law. Then he said he regretted that decision cos when nobody wanted to employ WYW, he wished he had opened up his own law firm and handed it down to her.
I find that all the Kdramas I have seen, this is what draws me to continue to watch them. Highly interesting how little tidbits you hear, see, and how the directors bring it together. I thoroughly enjoy Korean dramas for that fact. Ofcourse their choice of choosing perfect actors to perform the character is quite "extraordinaire. "
A perfectly crafted k drama for uncommon topics in today's society unless you are delved in those subjects - whales, dolpins, asd, and law. Had holistic approach on how a sensible drama series can be delivered. Same feels when CLOY tackling NoKor way of life, another sensitive topic.
This might be controversial but I like Tae su Mi a lot because until some point far in the series (when she talked about sending Woo Young Woo to the USA) she NEVER mentionned woo’s autism… she was just speechless concerning her abilities. I liked that a lot. And even when she mentionned woo’s autism ONLY to send jer to the USA, it was to trick woo’s father making him think he didn’t do enough for her. She had no interest in her autism whatsoever. I found it beautiful.
What makes her more human is that in final eps, her son told Woo that he found out her mother looking up Woo's information and crying while on a call with her mom (Woo's grandma). I believed that many people misunderstood her. She didn't want to have kid back then, she was too young and she came from noble family. She got responsibility to be the successor of Tae San lawfirm. It was amazing that she agreed to put herself through unwanted pregnancy and childbirth instead of aborting the baby. After that, she just chose to move on. CEO Hanbada is who I think strongly the real villain here. She used Woo to her benefit
Same here, but I think my like has more to do with the actress playing the role. That being said, Tae, Su Mi never did anything bad/shameful in the show.
I actually found YoungWoo’s dad to be selfish. Her mom didn’t wanna have a kid and he begged her to have YW and leave her with him. She did exactly as they agreed and then she was a villain for doing so? She did do some bad stuff but I didn’t understand why they painted her as a bad person for doing what they agreed on doing.
@@taygiggle Excellent point. It is her body and her choice, and she did make the choice to honor the baby's father's wishes. She never tried to interfere with the father's or their daughter's life until she came into hers. I am with you. I would not go as far as to call the father a villain but the mother is definitely a not villain.
all these, and whales are so sentient and intelligent and mysterious and alive - such big scale aliveness and subtlety, their songs too, ad breaking the surface from the depths - as woo young woo's comprehension is and does
It’s incorrect to say that Woo’s father was studying for the bar. He had promised he wouldn’t. I think he just kept the books . I kept some of my college textbooks for years after graduation.
Why did I wait so long to watch this? I was scared to watch as an aunt of a child with autism and mother of a child with a leaning disability that this was going to make me cry but I don't care wat comes in a later epesoide after watching the 1st, I'm hooked. Awesome drama!
I wondered if the two female CEOs maybe went to school together, too. Interesting to find out about the stealing of the client and the boyfriend! It explains a lot about their animosity towards each other. Like a high-stakes catfight! Rowrrr...I don't understand how that backstory didn't air. Where did this channel find that information?
it would be better if we find out about the two women's past in season 2, and maybe more to it than just one taking her BF. woos dad is friends with the CEO too so there can he more with that too
I think Tae Su Mi was also dealing with some underlying guilt issues. Both Young Woo and Sang Hyeon are on the spectrum, and Tae Su Mi has signs also. Remember her compulsively straightening and organizing items?
The explanation is in the dialogue. The mother abandoned her daughter, then took the CEO's boyfriend and had a child with him. So the CEO is always on the side of Woo Young Woo and against her mother. The obvious implication is the CEO sees the mother as selfish, unscrupulous and cruel.
Even though ppl are thinking about Season 2, the actors know NOTHING about it. If you read about Park Eun-bin (Woo Young- woo) does not think she will do it... FYI: they said it took 5 months just to do Episode 7 and 8...That is how much preparation they did, I doubt that they would be able to slap some episodes together in order to make a season 2 quickly.
The problem is channels like this one who continue to speculate as if they have some inside knowledge, when in reality they have none at all. It keeps the click count, therefore revenue, up. Apart from the the actors having other projects and obligations, there is one compelling reason why the writer and director may not want to create another season. That is, the premise for this series of stories is predicated on the principal character being on the Autism spectrum. The great danger (in fact, likelihood) in creating another set of stories based on this character is that the portrayal of Asperger's Syndrome descends into a parody, which would likely be upsetting and offensive to many. And it would be surprising if Park Eun Bin wasn't aware of this. There is a limit to which Asperger's symptoms can be used for entertainment. There is nothing more that can be wrung from this character, so it would be absolutely right to stop now.
@@rwilsonpaladinNo-one of any importance has indicated there will be another season. Not the writer or director, nor any cast member. Park Eun Bin was asked directly and gave her response. Social media channels continue to speculate because it pays to do so.
Two reason why the second season is tricky. As you stated, Park, Eun0bin does not want to do another season. Another is that Kang, Tah-oh who plays Lee, Jun-ho is set to start his mandatory military service in September of this year, meaning that he might be available for two years
As of right now Park Eun Bin has not given a definitive no despite being stress out and exhausted from portraying Young Woo. She just said that she needed a break to rest up and then she would think about weather or not she wants to come back for a second season.
I have search everywhere and can not find anywhere about season 2, not even in Wikipedia. How come you think there gonna be another season of this serie?
A few thoughts: I think you are incorrect in saying Woo Young Woo's father was studying for the bar. it was later revealed that he purposely stayed away from the law profession as part of his promise to Tae Su-Mi. It's not even clear he finished law school. He might have kept the books around, not really knowing what to do with them. Regarding the feud between Tai and Han, that excerpt explains it, but I wonder why it was not included in the original series. It's a relatively short scene. Could it be that by that time there were already rumblings about a second season? In which case that would give the creators the chance to come up with a much more convoluted story for their rivalry, which will be played out in the next season. Stealing each others' clients happens quite frequently in the law business. No use getting so mad over it. And regarding the possibilty of an old love triangle, well, by the time this story takes place, Han is obviously very successful. Seems doubtful she would be carrying a 20-plus years long grudge over over Tae stealing her law school boyfriend, whom we haven't even seen yet. And besides, Han is kind of hot. If she wanted to, I'm sure she would have had her opportunities with other men by now. So I think the creators are working to develop a much more devious plot to explain their rivalry. At least I hope so. Anyway, I love this show. All these little details don't matter when you watch Park Eunbin, who is simply amazing in this role -- charming, vulnerable, interesting, lovely and compelling all at the same time.
Why they hate each other? My theory is that Hanbada ceo (Han Seon-young) resents Tae Soo-mi because she saw the potential in her sunbae for being really good at law work. But Tae soo-mi took her sunbae away from law. Due to (possible) family pressure (parents mainly) to marry a chaebol instead. But that is my guess. Something for a season 2 to answer.
I always thought the whales represented God as a big, happy figure on the background. Providing the miracle impulses for Woo young Woo when needed, and as a loving Father watching his lost children struggle to live in according with His loving laws. He leaves them totally free, and when they finally do get it right, or something beautiful happens, He appears with a big smile as if saying: And He saw it was good… The fact that Woo Young Woo only sees the whales is to me an indication that due to her purity, her innocence, she can see ‘beyond this world’. Wow, what an exceptional production!
I mean it’s not as though Tae Su Mi outright says she doesn’t want Young Woo. I think rather it’s something extremely difficult for her and in the end we should consider that she did indeed give birth to Young Woo. She doesn’t necessarily show animosity towards Young Woo and lets her other kid come clean about his hacking. She was almost completely safe with the secret but decided to be a “good” mom. You can tell she raised her second son well based on the fact he was wracked with guilt over what happened. Tae Su Mi isn’t a bad character in my book.
@Sophiess, Tae Su Mi may not feel animosity towards Young Woo but she is definitely not feeling “safe” with the secret from her past. Also Tae Su Mi may be her normal self when she’s in the presence of Young Woo but her continuous attempts to send Young Woo away to the U.S. in order to keep the secret of her having Young Woo out of wedlock from coming to the surface says otherwise.🙄😕 Tae Su Mi reflected on what her actions or decision to become minister of justice and the negative effects it would have had on her son thanks to Young Woo changing her mind in time, by not doing so she would have sacrificed her own son all for the sake of her professional career.🫤🤦🏻♂️
Started watching theses k-dramas for some reason about 4-5 months ago. And some Chinese ones as well. Some were so dumb I stopped watching and some so good I couldn't get enough. But this one, to me, topped all of them. SO WELL DONE AND ACTED!!! I don't even want to put it in the same category as a "K-Drama". Just an excellent TV show that happens to come from Korea. I've heard of the US wanting to make an American version. Stupid dumb move. A money grab that will compare. Besides, they did do an excellent one (Temple Grandin) starring Claire Danes which I seen in another video Woo Young Woo's character is loosely based on. Hollywood no longer has it's own ideas. I hope there is a season 2 for sure and my wish is Woo Young-Woo and Jun-Ho further their relationship (no more break ups), more good courtroom dramas and a get down to the nitty gritty with the two CEO's.
I am happy that Season 1 was "fulfilling" enough to serve as a series end because with the male lead having to do his compulsory military service and Park Eun Bin saying the roll is difficult, we may not see a season 2. Park Eun Bin is on the world stage now, and it is likely that bigger roles will come her way. For those looking for something similar, I recommend Astrid et Raphelle, a French TV Series that I think may have served as the inspiration for Extraordinary Attorney Woo. Sarah Mortenson is equally compelling as Astrid and I would venture to bet that her performance influenced the way Woo behaves. Both are excellent. Astrid is a bit more serious but easy to get hooked into. Astrid is on Amazon Prime. Both Astrid and Woo are exceptionally good shows though.
I want a second season, whether young woo is in it or not, there are too many threads left open. Young woo can be in the first episode or two, then leave the rest to other cast members.
@@davidmun1601 Park Eun Bin is not against playing Young Woo again she just said she needed time to rest then she would decide whether or not she wants to come back.
How can is be called Extraordinary Attorney Woo if Young Woo is not in it. It is her journey in life as a person with Autism, being an attorney, having a relationship with Jun Ho. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
@@ellenabendschoen4990 Anyone can play Young Woo. Yes some are better than others which was the case for Park Eun Bin but most roles are not exclusive to one person unless writers and directors have a specific person in mind other than that there’s usually an audition process. I’m fine if they decide to just keep Extraordinary Attorney Woo to one season if they are unable to get Park Eun Bin aka Young Woo and Kang Tae Oh aka Jun Ho back. But if that’s the case the writer did a terrible job in the second half of the season in not closing up the show’s story in a way where it’s satisfactory for the viewers watching.
👆👆👆👆👆👆👆👆👆👆👆👆👆👆👆👆👆👆👆👆👆👆👆👆👆👆👆👆 In Namyangju, there are numerous dog farms, slaughterhouses, markets, and restaurants where the dogs, who have been tortured their entire lives, end up being slaughtered in the most inhumane ways, such as by electrocution, hanging, or beating; and then thrown into boiling water - sometimes while they are still alive. In many places, dogs are being killed in full view of other terrified, caged dogs; and this takes place in broad daylight. In addition, many abandoned and stolen former pets end up in this industry and are subject to the same cruelty. Come on stars move and help.
I really enjoyed Extraordinary Attorney Woo. Something that annoys me is the voice over on the video continually calls her Attorney Ew. It's Attorney Woo. Not Ew.

Many Korean dramas leave many things unexplained. Some characters are introduced with no background story whatsoever leaving us asking in the end why. That's an absolute nono in creative writing.
@Arm Nakornthab Just examine the motive of the mother. Where is she all these years while Young Woo was growing up? She has money and means to offer her daughter the best care, but she didn't do a thing. That's why Young-woo said "you were not a good mother to me".
@@gloriakohler415 I still think the opposite. According to the series, anything has political matters behind what happens. The fact that Su Mi didn't show up at all may have been due to political reasons. If she really is a bad mother, she won't shed tear when she knows Woo's identity. She wants her to have the best chance and best place so that why she offers the accommodation in Boston. Later, even her father thinks of the same thing. If season 2 is produced, we will see all truth behind this.
It's probably both. She is thinking of herself how to quietly make her daugter keep away from media as well as giving her best option. U can argue which comes first but also shows she's conflicted.
@@armnakornthab6867 🤯🤨Are you serious, Tae Su Mi is shedding a tear not because of regret but because of pure shock and guilt in that very moment.😒 her continuous attempts to send Young Woo away to the U.S. may seem like she’s doing it because she cares for her by getting Young Woo in a facility that would help her navigate her autism but in reality it’s Tae Su Mi’s way of trying to keep her away so there’s no chance of her past of having Young Woo out of wedlock from coming out. The only reason why Young Woo’s dad was thinking about taking Young Woo to the U.S. wasn’t because of Tae Su Mi or because he thought it was a good idea it was solely because he knew that Han was going to reveal that Young Woo is Tae Su Mi’s daughter as she personally let him know in advance in episode 15.

I love the performance of all the actors/actresses. They are indeed extraordinary. I can’t wait to watch the next season. ❤
IF EVER THEY MAKE SEASON 2.... PLEASE MAKE A SIBLING MOMENT FOR ATTY WOO AND SANG HYEON
This won’t be the same program if they can’t bring the program’s main character actor back.
So love the Series, looking forward for a Season 2. love love Park eun bin and Jin kyung!
Hollywood should learn from Korea on how to make great human interest shows, and with no sex.
We are looking for season 2,hope it will release soon.A lot of questions to be answered, and also what will happen to the love story of attorney woo.
it would be better if we find out about the two women's past in season 2, and maybe more to it than just one taking her BF. woos dad is friends with the CEO too so there can he more with that too
Whales are her big "Ah-ha!" Moments and Dolphins are the little "Ah-ha!" Moments
I think Tae Su Mi was also dealing with some underlying guilt issues. Both Young Woo and Sang Hyeon are on the spectrum, and Tae Su Mi has signs also. Remember her compulsively straightening and organizing items?
We need a Season 2!!
I love the show . . . glad to hear we can look forward to Season 2.
Best show ever! Loved everything about it ❤
First time I saw Woo Young Woo's whale "Aha" moment, I was immediately reminded of Jimmy Neutron's "Brain Blast" 😂
Nice recap as usual
5:54 한 or Han actually refers to number one. Hence Han is a shorter version of 하나 (hana) and it basically is means the number one
It’s beautiful as it is no need for season 2. And they never explain why her mother and the ceo hate each other
The explanation is in the dialogue. The mother abandoned her daughter, then took the CEO's boyfriend and had a child with him. So the CEO is always on the side of Woo Young Woo and against her mother. The obvious implication is the CEO sees the mother as selfish, unscrupulous and cruel.
The fact that my birthday is November 17
There's a lot more to explain with this series. Hoping for another season of wonderful series😁
@@pvandck She is the main one who DOES NOT want to do it...
I love the drama.
I like how unpredictable the roles of these CEO women.
Guys I don't remember the scene from 2:40 😭 in which episode it was
begging for a second season
I forget which episode but this is explained. Tae Su-mi married Hanbada CEO's boyfriend from college.
@@Cloudfive55 where lol, i just finished this series n i cant recall anything like that mentioned...
@@adrindazril3913 It's in this video.
@@Cloudfive55 Ah it's from the deleted scene from episode 8. I missed that
If this serie doesn't get an Emmy award then their is a corruption going on.
where can I watch that unaired episode ? LInk please ?
I always thought the whales represented God as a big, happy figure on the background. Providing the miracle impulses for Woo young Woo when needed, and as a loving Father watching his lost children struggle to live in according with His loving laws. He leaves them totally free, and when they finally do get it right, or something beautiful happens, He appears with a big smile as if saying: And He saw it was good… The fact that Woo Young Woo only sees the whales is to me an indication that due to her purity, her innocence, she can see ‘beyond this world’. Wow, what an exceptional production!
season 2 ? ?
The teasing they didn’t like each other probably is because they are competitors both big law firms
anyone know the name of the song when she rides the train in ep1 and the last ep16? its not on the OST! thx!
I'm looking for that BGM too..
@@シン-c7u Shazam and Google music search brings up nothing. =(
yeah right...
Also Tae Su Mi may be her normal self when she’s in the presence of Young Woo but her continuous attempts to send Young Woo away to the U.S. in order to keep the secret of her having Young Woo out of wedlock from coming to the surface says otherwise.🙄😕
Tae Su Mi reflected on what her actions or decision to become minister of justice and the negative effects it would have had on her son thanks to Young Woo changing her mind in time, by not doing so she would have sacrificed her own son all for the sake of her professional career.🫤🤦🏻♂️
The screenwriter is a woman, not a man. I don’t know why this video repeatedly refers to the screenwriter as male.
Muy buena artista, de Peru 🇵🇪
i cant believe season 2 will come out in 2024----
..the director and the writer are geniuses as well...
Yes, it's crazy that the second season has been greenlit, but the actress playing Woo, Young Woo, is against being on the show
@@davidmun1601 Park Eun Bin is not against playing Young Woo again she just said she needed time to rest then she would decide whether or not she wants to come back.
Maybe of rivalry
Good old fashioned cat fight!!

In Namyangju, there are numerous dog farms, slaughterhouses, markets, and restaurants where the dogs, who have been tortured their entire lives, end up being slaughtered in the most inhumane ways, such as by electrocution, hanging, or beating; and then thrown into boiling water - sometimes while they are still alive. In many places, dogs are being killed in full view of other terrified, caged dogs; and this takes place in broad daylight. In addition, many abandoned and stolen former pets end up in this industry and are subject to the same cruelty.
Come on stars move and help.
How are these not explained ? They were literally explained in the show
Why do you not pronounce the “W” in “Woo” or the “L” in “Lee”?
I really enjoyed Extraordinary Attorney Woo.
Something that annoys me is the voice over on the video continually calls her Attorney Ew. It's Attorney Woo. Not Ew.
TO BE HONEST I WONT ASK FOR A SEASON 2 ... IF THEY WONT ITS OKAY IF THEY WILL ITS MUCH BETTER I GUESS.... BUT THE MOMENT ATTY KWON SAID TO ATTY JUNG THAT HES INDEED BEAUTIFULL I WANTED AN ANSWER HAHAHAHA ITS REALLY CONFUSINGGGGGG WHYYY DID HE SAY THATTTTT
Many Korean dramas leave many things unexplained. Some characters are introduced with no background story whatsoever leaving us asking in the end why. That's an absolute nono in creative writing.

Many people think what Tae Su Mi propose to send Young Woo to the States is selfish. I think the opposite.
@@G10-n7f Have you watched? Tae Su Mi proposed sending Young Woo to the States at the end of ep 10 and around ep 11 or 12 there was a scene where her father asking her about going to the States. That was long before ep 15.

Guess the second season would have to handle her bf being another actor because this actor has to do 2 yrs military service. Or maybe they will prerecord his limited role ahead of time. Or maybe a new bf. Who knows.
I love this series, however the way they portray successful women hits a bit wrong for me, I wish Season 2 would add more nuance to that.
These unexplained scenes can be clarified i season 2. Please let it happen!!
She stole her boyfriend got pregnant on purpose and abandoned them
There will be no season 2. But, hey, you keep pretending there will be.
I think the Hanbada CEO loved Young Woo’s father bit the father loved
Taesan’s Ceo😊
They hate each other because of one man. The father of woo young woo. The hanbada ceo likes young woo's father and the taesan's ceo likes him too. That's the reason
@Lila Lana, So far from what the show has showed us, there is a flashback scene in episode 8 when Young Woo’s dad is explaining to her his past with Tae Su Mi and he says she didn’t want to marry a poor guy like him. He also said there might be reasons as to why be he doesn’t know them.
