Great video... I had one back in about 1980ish... I just bought the same one as you and found the arm brace to painful to use... as soon as i took it off with a stardrive I love it again, I also think it looks narrower but maybe we're just bigger now lol... All the best: -)
I as a kid and up to my late teens shot the tubes off these for years there were times we would buy the frames just for the tubes and put them on are own forks simply bcos it was all we could get but if u were lucky youd find a shop with some barnett tubes only and for some reason they were excellent for our frames they were much more springy easier draw not that plastic kinda feel youd get from the tubes on the full item on the frame etc theraband gold we got from America were we first seen a catty comp and from there met the uk lads we did get tappered barnett tubes where the fork end was a thicker size and they tapered thinner towards the pouch they were good as they were very fast and a lighter draw but the only other flats were old car tubes But ye the blackwidow was the gateway for many shooters they've got there place in the catty scene.(U done pretty good there using different ammos)👍
Every single part of this is brilliant. Totally honest and the skill and experience is completely evident. The adjustment for shot by weight, the stuff about how it feels. The price has NOT YET been set by the UK importer and Asa is the absolute first reviewer of this product anywhere. It is pukka pre-release. SO grateful for this Asa, it's 24 karat RCC!
Like a lot of comments on here, I had one of these as a teenager in the 80's and used to love firing it in the woods near where I lived. Barnett's daughter was about my age and I used to see her every now and again as she lived locally (she was pretty and only ever wore Benetton clothes). Her Dad made a motsa providing bows and knives for the Rambo films and so she was out of my league (and she knew it too).
The King Rats one of their premium versions, the Bog standard one is still sold with either the regular natural or the same Red Magnum band thats on the King Rat version (grips still the same design as the late 90s early 00s and still uses the plastic brace) and then you have the Hunter line which I think is just the Widow and Havoc still that come in Camo with the tapered X bands. Those that use the brace I recommend making a padded replacement for comfort, one of my original Widows I made one out of leather and 2 I customised recently got Pleather ones and its so much more comfortable to use, that said I've been alright so far with the King Rat foam on my Cobra but I do have larger arms so that could be a contributing factor.
Growing up my dad used to call slingshots with wrist braces "wrist rockets". Not sure that was a common term but I tend to use it in honor of my dad but also to differentiate between them & slingshots without wrist braces.
Great Review Asa ... Hope you keep reviewing Catapults .. Really enjoyed your video and looking forward to the next catapult review.. The Squirrel story was funny.. Great idea Reviewing different frames and setups 👍👍👍
Interesting. I have a wrist rocket type frame that I got before my wife bought me my first flat band frame back in July. Haven't actually shot it! Might have to give it a go.
i’m getting the new cobra… my lovely girlfriend has got me it for my birthday…. i’ve already got a fairly modern black widow and it works for me…. i’ve tried flat bands and also have a couple of cattys that use them…. i just prefer the Barnett slingshots… this was a good video and very honest. I’m picking up a fenland accent Asa?… i lived in Sutton Bridge up until I was 11 then moved up north… grew up fishing the drains…. i have always favoured slingshots over airguns though….and think they’re way more fun!!!
I have the black widow that came with grey bands and they were nice. But I put the tapered double x bands on it now, and with my home made nail dart ammo, I think I could eat in the forest. Just take nails with small heads and use tiny rubber bands to attach a bundle of strings around the head of the nail like a tail so it straightens itself when shooting held sideways in pouch by center of nail. Sharpen the nail with oil stones
Just getting back into it, had a Barnett Diablo way back when. Literally 30 odd years ago when I was at school! 😂 I'm right eye dominant, but broke my arm around a year ago and still don't have full ROM so shooting that way is a bit painful and awkward. Shooting with the same stance you do would be a lot better, but just wondering if I can train myself to use my left eye. Thanks mate 👍
I grew up in the US & generally people call them slingshots where I live not catapults. But i kinda luke catapult as a name; sounds powerful. I don't recall seeing black widows until recently. I have owned many of the Marksman & Daisy Powerline slingshots (which are essentially thev same as the Black Widows). I honestly remember Marksmen being called Crossmen but only references I found online were people also misremembering. I think the logo putting a crosshair behind the M in Marksmen might cause the issue...unless its a Mandela effect 😂 jk
They still make them but probably not quite the same as back in the eighties but was always my favourite because it was quick to grab from the pocket and start shooting immediately
Each to their own, just find something you like, and then use it. It's like choosing new shoes, you have to try a number of different styles to find the ones you prefer, but you probably want several types, depending on what you're doing. Maybe they're not the best, but the Barnett's are functional, reliable, pretty cheap and spares aren't a problem.
These catapults are pathetic, I have one of these.. it shoots a stone around 40 - 45 metres and a 9mm ammo 55 metres. I shot a seagull with 9mm steel ball ammo, and it barely even hurt the seagull it just looked at me, these things are nothing but children's toys.😂

I just put small smooth pebbles on mine and it's fantastic....

Thanks for sending it out adam, I’m always happy to review and be honest with it
Totally agree 👍 Asa is a natural and a honest well explained review 👏 Hope he does more reviews on different frames and setups 👍

Wrist rocket is a brand in the states, I’m guessing that’s why he called them that
@@romanycustomcatapults this I did not know...thanks

As a child I yearned for a black widow pult and got one. I’m 57 now watching on TH-cam and thinking I want one. Nice video.
Ne fais surtout pas cela malheureux !!! Mauvais investissement !!!
FLAT BANDS OVER THE TOP FOR ME LARRY😂
It just brings back so many memories and then reminds me of how old I am now 😂😂😂😂nice review 👍👍

The 2 inch nails with very small heads barely thicker than the rest of the nail. Or whatever length your forks would take
Or whatever size depending on the slingshot
Great review thanks! Can I just ask if you are left or right eye dominant please?
Left eye I believe, why do you ask

My favourite back in the day was a Barnett strike 9 no fancy wrist brace and cheaper than the black widow
I can’t recall the strike 9
They still make them but probably not quite the same as back in the eighties but was always my favourite because it was quick to grab from the pocket and start shooting immediately
@@royrobinson7570 I’ll have a look
I remember getting one as a kid in the 70s and we used to kill pigeons in the roof of a wood yard.
It's slightly better than the Barnett Diablo pro and cheaper as well. Thats all the nice things i have to say about the Barnett Black widow.
