i was raised in Nigeria and went to college in America. Stayed for 10 years. I did not enjoy most of my experiences with race especially and it was just a confusing and stressful time in my life. When i returned home, i never looked back.Till this day, i don't look forward to even having a vacation in America. Reading Americnah gave me so much closure and gave me understanding of my time there. It was like Ifemelu went through 80% of what i experienced. I can finally "look" at America again. It was too close to home for me and i'm grateful to Chimamanda for this book.
My father was an Igbo . My mother indigenous South American . I like my mom’s side better . She is kind , loving , sweet , I love her and her family so much . I never shed a tear when my father’s mother died - she was pure evil
I just love and admire our first minister, she’s so humble, I never knew she’s this funny. And Chimamanda, you are such an intelligent and beautiful woman. May God bless you both.
I'm a new fan of Chimamanda Ngozi Achidie. I was just introduced to her a month ago (on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah) and I've been listening to her talks ever since. I look forward to reading her books. I love how astute, aware, sensitive, present she is. She truly knows people. What an amazing woman!
Two great women on the same stage. Chimananda, i truly concur with her when she says that she only realise she is black when she came to the west. What a great nigerian woman - just love her...
My first time ever hearing about her and the fact she never knew she was black is when she came to America I'm African American I wish I could have had that experience 😪 to not know color of the human race what a privilege 💔 and a disappointment to find out that your judged on your skin color. I would love to visit Africa 🌍 to have that experience to not be seen as different but; equal I have throughly enjoyed meeting her by way of social media I can see her in ancient times sitting on a throne as a beautiful queen with her wisdom, intelligence, character and integrity she could rule a kingdom and stand toe to toe with any man.
Having grandmothers who were from Nigeria both Igbo and Yoruba Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie bring clarity to my childhood growing up in the Caribbean and now maneuvering my adult world in the US. Luv her!
OMG...... She is Sooo Beautiful.... I LOVE YOU NGOZI... WE AFRICANS LOVE YOU SO DEARLY.... WE ARE SOO PROUD OF YOU.... MUCH LOVE FROM GHANA TO MY NIGERIAN EMPRESS... I MEAN OUR AFRICAN QUEEN.... MUAHHHHHH❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Great stage presence and excellent articulation both from interviewer and interviewee. I am an avid reader and can read several books at the same time like Chimamanda now I know that it's nothing wrong with it.Makes you a deep thinker with an array of knowledge that is paramount.
I love listening to these ladies.. many people in the UK oppose Nicola... I think she's an awesome woman and loves her country very much.. Miss Chimamanda makes me feel so proud.. May they both stay safe and keep encouraging our world to live as one...
Though I sometimes criticise Chimamanda for her sentiments about certain issues, there's no doubt that the world (including me) admires how boldly she speaks her mind.
Two very brilliant women. As a Nigerian woman, Chimamanda is a great example that our current millenials who are somewhat confused could emulate. A strong, brilliant, articulate and well mannered woman.
Laila Ibrahim - It's all about calibre. You can't compare an accomplished stateswoman with a name-seeking journalist. That French interview was really low-grade.
I'm French: while we can definitely be rude, be sure that most French people are not that gross and arrogant. I was quite ashamed by this interview and the image it gives of us.
The idiot would have verify if there is bookshop in Nigeria before asking such a rediculous question, what a fame shame she brought to herself. Remain kind.
I just discovered this amazing lady and I spent 5 hours watching her commencement speeches ( Havard and Yale) and other interviews including this one. Mind you, I have daughters and son.
I love this woman of virtue; she articulates my deep thoughts in beautiful forms and I thank God we have her to help exemplify the true meaning of pioneering greatness while being a woman. Nne, Idi egwu (meaning: my dear, you are too much).
I just discovered her speeches two days ago. I am already in love with their intelligence and power of word. My lived experience is as Canadian Salvadorian 🇸🇻🇨🇦
Black Beautiful, Smart woman ..her sense of humour too.. we proud of Chimamanda. Her child could grow to be a best her raised by her as mum. I hope she gets a son. So he could learn Strong women like her exist and he will sure know how to treat women since he will be raised by a real one. 😊
I first met Chimanda Adichie in 2004 when She came for her book signing at Waterstones Book Shop in Regent Street in London. I was there to get my copy of Purple Hibiscus signed. I remember her has a quietly distinguished writer after signing my book and walking around she said I noticed you are only Nigerian I see here. I said it's probably because they haven't heard of her. But since then I have followed her and read nearly all her books, but most of all is that I am proud that people recognise her as a Writer and also as Feminist. Thanks Chimanda for being a Role model for young Nigerians 🇳🇬 and to those who she has an had impact, in their Lives along the way.
@Thomas Jones two years on and you still have not given a reason for your Moronic Comment obviously you've crawled back under your Unionist Stone in shame,,Stay there Independence for Scotland in the SNP we TRUST
I could listen to Mrs Adichie for days. She is brilliant, combatitive, funny and endlessly engaging. Some of the other videos of her interviews in which she pushes back against inept, ignorant interviewers and co-panelists demonstrate both her vast intellectual abilities alongside her combativeness and refusal to compromise with idiocy. Here, talking with Nicola Sturgeon, she's in repectful, admiring company with an equally brilliant woman. Marvelous discussion.
I have enjoyed this chat.Nicola is brilliant.Ngogie no less. That 11 year old girl asking a question from her Heart and Soul will one day sit in that Edinburgh room and be interviewed.Good luck 11 year being there u r already on the right tract.
There is a misconception that women were always opressed in the East. Matriarchal families are still present in North East Inda, Kerala, african and chinese tribes. Christianity in Europe promoted patriarchy.
Matriarchy is present in such a minuscule amount, you can't really compare it. Sure Christianity is patriarchal as fuck, but other religions are no less.
In North East India, its predominantly matriarchal system. There was matrirachal system even among muslims in North Kerala. Kerala women are mostly educated and empowered. My mother went to Europe in 1965.
There is a misconception also about Patriarch system too. It is wrong to see all patriarch system as one single system when we live very very far from each other. Patriarch systems are different and not all are oppressive.
Every time I see her, I remember tha dramatic interview in France and I lough soo hard😅😅 She's indeed a Phenomenal Woman . I comment the interviewer too, she's such a vibe

I love Chimamanda but I was just thinking, that so many interviewers never challenge their guests and simply listen or agree with everything they say. I wonder what would happen if they challenged some of her beliefs instead of fangirling. Yes they were invited for a reason but I'd love to hear someone challenge a guest at times.
She does not force her ideologies on others. She is just honest. How do you challenge honesty? There is nothing more to add beyond honesty. So Kay, what are your beliefs?
Seeing her beauty without bleaching made me proud of being an African. I just pity people who bleach their skin because of the inferiority complex that they have to battle within them.
