  • On hand May 7 to discuss her novel “Americanah,” the featured fiction title of Arlington Reads 2015, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie drew hundreds of passionate readers to the Arlington (VA) Public Library. Working from the timely Arlington Reads theme of “#BlackLivesMatter,” Ms. Adichie reflected on her life coming to America, her writing process and issues of race, gender and mental health. But perhaps her most personal statement came at the beginning of the program when she told the audience of the fresh trauma of her father’s kidnapping just days earlier in Nigeria. He was freed unharmed on May 5.
    The energy coming from the large Arlington Reads audience clearly provided comfort to Ms. Adichie, who graciously concluded the evening with autographs for every person who sought one. Library Director Diane Kresh summed up the appearance as “inspiring, generous, thoughtful. Just the kind of program that touches our hearts and our heads.”
    Arlington Reads is made possible by the Friends of the Arlington Public Library.

    This is happening to a lot of Nigerians. One of my uncle went through this as well. He was boarding a plane last month travelling to Minneapolis when he received a call that her mother was kidnapped, they asked him for a huge amount of money, few days later she was free. They are targeting people they think are rich, kidnap their family member to make money. So sad..

    Americanah realmente tocó en el fondo de mi corazón, me vi muchas veces identificada en la definición y re-enforzamiento de mi identidad y experimentando la añoranza del lugar en donde nací y crecí. Viviendo fuera de México mi identidad como latina creció, siempre he sentido un profundo amor y respeto a mi México, pero está vez creció mi amor por Latinoamerica, bien extendida desde México a todo el continente Americano.
    Además, estoy de acuerdo, el amor importa.

    Regards to the Nigerian, Ghanaian woman's comment on inheritance in Ghana. I want to put it right for the record that, Just as many tribes in various countries in Africa, Ghana has many tribes and their pattern of inheritance. In Ghana, only the Akans practice the matrilineal line of inheritance. Thanks

    • @umeokakwe9061
      @umeokakwe9061 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly that is what it means. Most of names starts with God and ends with its attributes or character. My name is Chukwuemeka. Chi and chukwu points to the universal God and our ancestors attached the character of God to our names. Ngozichukwuka means God's blessing is the greatest
