I have both and they’re not even comparable.Regardless of any moding the resonance on the 84 is superior, and don’t even get me started on the neck, best neck I have felt on a guitar
You make assumptions and don’t really listen. The purple one isn’t what you think, it’s been modified , has a Floyd and new pickup, so no you don’t have this one. Your aces sent is biased and presumptuous.

Despite the results, the 84 got my attention in person. Idk if it’s the wood or the straight mounted JB but if you have one you know lol
P.s. the purple 1 is under 200 bucks at our local stores.... i was gonna buy 1 n up grade it!

1984. Have to change too much on the Special to get it to the same level. On 1984, just swap out the trem bar and put in a bigger sustain block, done. (I have one, it's fantastic).

@@seandanzante2071 I can't remember which trem bar it was exactly, but I think German Schaller, got it off ebay. Tightened it up. Oh yeah, I changed the noisy springs, too.

After selling the neck from my purple Special for $80, also sold all the Harware and the pickup for $40, so I only had $60 in it because I bought it online no tax and free shipping. I didn’t like the maple fret board with the purple, I guess it’s a girl thing. Lol! Anyways, I had another neck with a banana headstock, that had a rosewood fretboard with star inlays. I got it used years ago for $50 at a garage sale. I refinished it. And it looks like new. I put a wrap on the Headstock and a new Kramer sticker. I added Gotoh tuners, Gotoh locking nut, Gotoh 1996t Tremelo, that comes with a nice brass block and quiet springs, a Floyd rose brass claw, DiMarzio Tone Zone in purple, Bourns low friction push pull pot, Ernie Ball brass volume knob in black, Ernie ball strap locks, EVH purple D-tuna, and a Tesi purple illuminating Killswitch. I have about $380-400 invested and it’s is awesome!!
The purple one sounds better but I like the style of the yellow, the mojo look!
