    As someone who's bought a fair amount of gold in Thailand for partners I found it particularly interesting. I've never heard of buying gold bars and my gf wants a (belated) ring for valentines. As you pointed out the ladies rarely wear jewellery out anyway as it has a risk element and can easily be lost if they party too much! It's really just a trophy to show off to their mates on social media sites. I will run the gold bars idea by her but I just can't see her "buying it" unfortunately 555.

    • @DavidAndNong
      @DavidAndNong  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Get her to compare the resale cost of a 1 baht necklace or bracelet with one of the blocks, directly with the shop. It saves you and makes more for her. Win win 👍

    Hey David.. (just found your Living in Pattaya channel) We all have different situations, budgets and partners. Coming to Thailand, I won't be buying gold.. certainly not for me.. probably not for anyone. I'm not exactly a minimalist but close. Maybe someday I'll have a Thai wife. I'll try to spoil her with love, kindness, affection.. I'll make sure she feels adored.. and before we are married, I'll make sure she understand my belief I that gold and material things are just something that can be stolen or lost. Vacations, memories, a motor bike, night out dancing or watching live bands, taking her to festivals, cinema.. that's my version of giving gold. haha
    ** If I marry.. the story or situation may change "A wee bit". Now only a Navy pension, 7 years until my 2nd pension kicks in at age 62.

    • @DavidAndNong
      @DavidAndNong  13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi Rusty, the price is the price for the weight of gold, where you can haggle is on the price they charge for the work. I walked round 15 shops near Tukcom, looking to buy just a large block. The gold price was consistent, the work price per baht ranged from 100 to nearly 500 per baht. This is not jewellery though, just investment gold. But I'm sure each shop would have a similar range (percentage wise) on jewelry 🙏🙏

    Hi David. I found that you can buy a 5 baht gold bar much cheaper than buying 5 x 1 baht bars. You pay a small commision above the price quoted outside the shops.
    For 1 baht bar the commision was 250-300 per gold bar but we found a gold shop only charging 350 commision in Big C Extra for a 5 baht gold bar which is a saving of 1k when you buy.

    • @DavidAndNong
      @DavidAndNong  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Cesar, the gold price is just pro rata. So if it's 31000 for 1baht then a half baht is 15,500 on top you have the price to make the jewelry, which varies from shop to shop. When selling you lose the manufacturing cost, so would be selling say a 1/2 baht ring. Generally you should be looking at 95% of the lower price on the window. So selling a half baht ring with gold buy price of 31,000 per baht, would be 30900 x 0.5 X 95% =14,677 but most shops will try to cheat you on the 95% 👃👃

  • @markshepperson3603

    If you buy gold in Thailand to take home be warned that due to its high purity it’s soft and any tug on a chain or bracelet and it’s broken. You might not be able to cash it in in your home country.
    Also gold bars can be faked on the inside and shops may not buy it back.

    • @DavidAndNong
      @DavidAndNong  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Very true Mark, UK gold is almost worthless here and vice versa. The gold bracelets around a baht are strong enough, and long necklaces around 2 baht are ok also. I'm sure there are some scams with fake gold, but personally I haven't seen or heard of it 🙏🙏

    • @MrBlue-dm5li
      @MrBlue-dm5li 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Not being able to cash it in because it’s broken, that’s ridiculous! I live in a medium sized city in Sweden and every(almost) jeweler buys any gold, broken or not. They pay for the metal and Karat and not how it looks.

  • @lalosalamanca1764

    So it’s roughly 29,000 15.20 grams for a chain ?

    • @DavidAndNong
      @DavidAndNong  ปีที่แล้ว

      Not really, the price on the window is the purchase price for one baht of gold. On top of this is the bar cost, normally one or two hundred baht. If you buy a chain or bracelet there is a manufacturer cost, also jewelry comes in many different weights. Since that video gold went up to 31,000 baht, then dropped to 29,850 today. Expect to pay between 600 to 1000 baht for the work to make jewelry. When you sell jewelry you also get 5,% less as it needs to be reworked. 🙏🙏 But your weight is about right.
