if the driver is not moving the vehicle and pulls the parking brake, then what is the problem? it's only a distraction if he's operating or moving the vehicle while on his cell.

Problem is he does loose overview of his surroundings, for example children playing, they could chase a ball under the truck, or some ppls going behind the truck, which he would otherwise notice .

FzA Nations. let's look at the facts: 1. not driving or operating 2. has taken the same stop for weeks now according to the nosy person who complained. 3. the marker lights and headlights are of wich would indicate the ignition is also off therefore the truck is parked not idle by the sidewalk. 4. trash drivers usually are forced to park in their route and take their breaks in their work trucks, If he drove and talked all the time the complainer would have footage. 5. you assume I don't have a license when o actually have had one for over 13 years now, so make sure u know what you're talking about before running your mouth through your fingers!

You don't know he does a "loose overall" of his surroundings. You don't know what his circumstances are at all. He could be a single father checking to make sure his kids got on the bus. From what I can see the truck is not moving, he's not doing anything wrong.

we trash drivers use cellphones ( i am not from that city by the way) but we have note pad on them and in my city I use them for gps, finding the address of the piece of shit dumpster I am at, so I can replace it. If trash truck is not moving, there is not a problem with it. I do not know if the driver in video is parked or moving, but if parked he is probably doing something similar.

+Cops And Firefighters Your comment makes ZERO sense. Drivers are encouraged by their local officials to PULL OVER to a safe area, IF you want to text or talk on your cell phone. If the vehicle is stopped and in park, how can a driver be seen as texting and driving????

Trucks are big pieces of machinery. Now if the truck isn't moving, and if the guy is on his break, then he has the right to be on his phone. But if he is on the clock, then the boss has the right to say "no". When I am at work, I am not allowed to be on my phone while I am on the clock.

I’m a garbage truck driver. As long as the parking brakes are applied and truck is on neutral, everyone is safe. Idk if this driver did that but if he did, this outrage is completely not called for.

Alot of the time the phone call or text the garbage truck driver is taking is from a supervisor asking the driver to take responsibility for other drivers routes

WHAT A FUCKING JOKE!!! This Reporter should have known to get VIDEO FOOTAGE before airing his story. It shouldn't have been difficult to do seeing as according to the reporter this is something this driver does often.

The truck wasn’t even moving. He has ever right to be on his phone if the truck is in park. Maybe the nosy Karen that took the picture should mine their own business.

Im a former garbagetruck driver myself, not in the U.S but in Norway. Here we atleast have bluetooth connection either connected too the truck or a handsfree so we are able to take a call if needed. Yes i do agree that being on the phone, while driving can do damage on both people and property, but.. this driver is standing still.. so what is the issue ? Wonder how often even the media does this.. or should we ban all phones while driving ? having it all in locked case maybe ?

    Employees are worthless these days.
I had one of my housekeeping girls get busted by the police for having sex in one of our company Vehicles behind a grocery store with one of her girlfriends and some guy they found on Facebook.

So taxpayers paid out 18 million dollars to a child lost his leg. I am hoping the driver was fired, don't know for sure. So now you have a driver that was texting on his phone. Luckily he was not driving. Yes he was working, but not driving. Most likely the truck was running, it was in gear, and he was emptying garbage bins. If his foot slipped off the brake he is driving. A child walks in front at that moment, the child is dead! How much is that going to cost taxpayers?
