Most constructive way to tell your wife that you didn't like her food, tell it to your best friend on your podcast that thousands of people watch worldwide 😂😂😂
Food critiques can be demoralizing. My mom says that Dad learning NOT to critique meals helped her become a better cook, because encouragement is always a better motivator than critiques when it comes to something like cooking. Feeding a family is often thankless and demoralizing even when nobody is critical, because it's so much work, prep, clean up, and there are so many elements in society that will tell you you're doing it WRONG - no matter what you do.
I have never in my life heard a big time chef say they got where they were without being in the kitchen of a better chef who would verbally eviscerate them for even the slightest errors. Harsh critique breeds success by means of vengeance.
@@xandertoleman6240 While there is a point to that for many professional chefs, the context is quite different from a successful marriage. Thankfully my dad didn't double down on critiques and criticism, but learned to be encouraging, and my parents are still married fifty plus years later. the food illness talk in the beginning is such a good point.. I had a favorite sushi place for several years and I ate some fish from there one time that tasted rancid and got sick later, I blamed it on the sushi. it was my favorite place to go to for so long and i’ve probably been there once since that happened like two or three years ago. :/
Guys - the part about food poisoning is not entirely informed. One of my science teachers in high school - Darin Detwiler - lost his son in the 90's to that ecoli outbreak at Arby's. He's written A LOT about food safety and a lot about the industry. I suggest giving the subject a bit more of a deep dive.
lol one thing I learned in life is to appreciate the small things so food is one I always appreciate it. My most recent memorable meal was having pistachio crusted rack of lamb that was absolutely a blessing on my tastebuds.
Two meals come to mind for me ... one was the first time I had legit Indian food, and I'd never experienced so many intense flavors hitting all my tastebuds at once. The oxytocin it released in me was crazy, I was soooo happy for hours after. The second was the very expensive meal I had at the Beast's Castle in Disney World. It was the most melt-in-your-mouth food I'd ever had, and multiple years later my mouth will still water just from thinking about it 😋
My most memorable meal was after I had weight loss surgery in 2005. I had weighed 364 pounds, and it was an experimental surgery. After surgery, I started with 2 Oz of protein shake every 2 hours, and for 6 weeks, I was strictly on liquids. For 6 more weeks, only puréed food. After 12 weeks, I was allowed to try solid food. I had taken my 5 kids and mom on a road trip from Texas to Washington state, and I bought at Safeway romaine lettuce, deli sliced roast beef and horseradish cheddar cheese. I made a little roll up. It still would be my favorite meal ever. I had lost 85 pounds in 12 weeks. 16 years later, I can still only eat the volume basically of 1 egg. It was all worth it. 140 is more gooderer for me!
I do not like my mother's version of minestrone. As an adult , I was invited to dinner at my mom's. She said she would be serving beef stew. She served minestrone. I took a small serving and finished it. THEN my mom says, "Hey, aren't you the kid who hates my minestrone?" "Yep, but I was also raised by a mom who taught me to be polite when invited!"
I'm so glad they used my grilled cheese story. It's an exciting and scary time when you first move out on your own and that first meal was a great memory.
Once I was at my sister's house and she made chicken and waffles. I'm allergic to gluten, so I couldn't eat any of it and didn't expect to get anything. "Whatever, it isn't ger job to feed me." But she had made me up a separate gluten free batch and I had never had chicken and waffles. There were 6 regular and 6 spicy pieces of fried chicken and 4 waffles just dripping in syrup, my God it was so amazing. Never had anything as good to this day.
The most memorable meal I had was with my sister. We had dinner at Rino in Vienna Austria and the owner sat with us and he gave us a couple of shots of Croatian liqueur. The food was really good, and the restaurant was really charming.
19:00 kids don’t like to see bones in their meat because they would never want to eat animals if given the choice. They naturally love animals but only eat them because it is what they are given from birth.
I don’t know if that’s always the case. Some kids just think they’re nasty. It isn’t always just like “Aw, there’s bones here. That means it was an animal. That’s sad”.
@@ShadowTheNinjaKitty and that shows that deep down they understand that it’s sad for an animal to be killed for a meal. If they saw it happen or had to do it themselves they would eat something else
When I was 23 I got ecoli. It was some crazy strain that they couldn’t treat, so they just hooked me up to an IV and pumped me with fluids and morphine. I couldn’t drink or eat anything because my stomach and intestines felt like they were on fire. I was in the hospital for four days until they decided I was going to make it out of the woods. They had me drink some ginger ale and some mashed potatoes with gravy. I wouldn’t say either were very delicious, but I do remember being so relieved that my stomach felt good enough for me to even be able to eat.

There's a restaurant in Anchorage, Alaska called "Simon and Seafort's," and I think to this day I think they had some of the best food I've ever eaten. Amazing halibut cheeks and this incredible tomato bisque with salmon. The flavors were so incredible.
I had a stint where I was in the hospital for 5 days. I'm a vegetarian and a little picky, and did NOT like any of the hospital food. I survived on Ensure shakes and Lora Doone cookies, sometimes French fries. The first meal i had when I got back home-- some classic New York pizza, was a godsend.
My Dad used to fry the neck and gizzard when he fried chicken and if I was lucky, he’d get extra gizzards from the butcher because if there was only one...it was his. Lol
I wholeheartedly agree with Rhett about ordering food for an experience. My ex was soooo picky about food, he never tried anything new. It was so boring to go out to new food places with him bc he’d get the same thing every time. Total buzzkill.
For me personally, a memorable meal is not always the food that's being eaten. My most memorable meal was at a public house overlooking Cincinnati and it was beautiful.
I usually ask my boyfriend or anyone I cook for “what do you think?” Almost hoping they give me a constructive critique like “needs more of this or that” or just a general compliment. So when my boyfriend says “it’s good” I’m like gahhhhhh give me DETAILS!
My two most memorable meals: 1) I was 16 years old on a trip to San Antonio Aquas Calientes, Guatemala. We weren’t supposed to eat the street food, but some of our group bought some type of Tamale 🫔 off of a street cart and I have been chasing that flavor ever since. 2) Those very first meals after having my babies. BURGERS. It just hits different when you haven’t eaten in 2 days, and you’ve lost a lot of blood: two HUGE hospital cheeseburgers with French fries and cheesecake for dessert. I think I ate that for every meal for three days. 😂
I’m from Alabama and the most memorable meal I’ve had was when I went hunting with my uncle and he made chili out of roadkill (specifically a raccoon) that he picked up on the way to camp. The best part is he didn’t tell us what was in his special chili until after we ate it (This is not a joke unfortunately)
I totally agree that sometimes you should order something different for the experience. I can’t specifically remember any single burger I’ve ever had at a restaurant except for this one time with a party I ordered this strange burger that had peanut butter on it, nobody else dared to get it. But I did. And I’ll never forget that experience. That’s what it’s about, not always just having the same thing that you know you’ll enjoy with mediocrity.
One of my most memorable food mpments was the first time i ate summer sausage i bought and cooked on a whim... ended up eating the whole 1800ish calorie sausage alone with nothing else. Best ingredient i have found to this day.
Gotta say the start of this podcast talking about dog's eye crusties reminded me of that episode of GMMore where the crew were talking about what makes them gag. I was very close to gagging while making dinner until I scrambled to skip the part lol.
Rhett was so right about the food poisoning thing, bc one time when I was in 2nd or 3rd grade I ate a big bowl of oat meal and threw it all up. For the first hour my family thought it was the oat meal that made me sick, turns out it was the worst stomach bug of my life. Even though oat meal wasn’t the cause, my body refuses to let me eat it. I was 7 or 8, I’m 16 now-
I cannot say I’ve ever thought about onions and limes on fish... other than maybe Ceviche. I would want to be told directly if it was good or not so I don’t make it again 🤷🏽♀️ edit: my most memorable meal was Lechon while in the Philippines. Most crispy pork skin you will ever crisp into. 💜
Definitely spicy fried duckhead. Had it in Quzhou, Zhejiang, China in 2013. Visited my uni friend's hometown and family. It was a specialty of that region. Have since become a vegan but I must say it was pretty good! The skin+meat on the beak was super crispy. Compared to the wastefulness of western meat industry i think making sure to use all of the animal is better
You and I are foodie soul mates Rhett. Love a good meal and a good cocktail 🍹! So down to go back to NYC and try and amazing vegan food adventure! Can’t wait for the dreaded Virus to be done!

1) I was 16 years old on a trip to San Antonio Aquas Calientes, Guatemala.
Guy fieri's diners drive ins and dunkin donuts had me cackling
Yes Link, that's exactly what it is.
My husband just doesn’t tell me if he doesn’t like my food. He just accepts that I took time out to cook him food and eats it
Link was pretty "food gross forward" this episode 😂
LET'S GO MYTHICAL TEAM
My dog used to eat all her eye boogers! If you would pretend to pick anything off her she would try to eat it right away it was so cute
Thanks for the eye crust story Link 🤣
One of my most memorable food mpments was the first time i ate summer sausage i bought and cooked on a whim... ended up eating the whole 1800ish calorie sausage alone with nothing else. Best ingredient i have found to this day.
My favorite was Rhett enjoying the cat food cookie 😂😂
I was 7 or 8, I’m 16 now-
Dishoom is overhyped. Go to Gymkhana you will love it more. It's a Michelin star restaurant
I never heard the vibrating sound Rhett was talking about
Definitely spicy fried duckhead.
I love the video of when they went to see family and singing 😢 so long ago
we did fish similarly in SC but always scales(with a spoon) then guts then fry
Happy Valentine's Day guys ❤️❤️
Pure regret from links face as he was telling the eye crusty story was beautiful.
*i bet the woman saying that you have no way to know what food made you sick is the official Taco Bell lawyer* 🌮 😂
I was expecting grilled cheese ramen but I got family time
You and I are foodie soul mates Rhett. Love a good meal and a good cocktail 🍹!
So down to go back to NYC and try and amazing vegan food adventure! Can’t wait for the dreaded Virus to be done!
