So I bought one of these since I thought it was super unique. And it is cool. My only issue is, that after tax and shipping it cost over 190.00! My bad. It’s very flimsy in parts. It works great but with all the complex electronics required to build these newer accessories, the cost has spiraled out of control. Also the arrow should light indicating the direction the train is coming from. Couldn’t tell if yours did that.
Very unique and not cheap either. Since I pre-ordered mine from Charles Ro, my cost was $25 less. The crossing gate is surprisingly flimsy and delicate. I ended up moving it to a back corner as essentially a siding for now; didn't want to mess with it too much and accidentally break it! The arrow was illuminating on my unit, showing the train coming from the right side. In hindsight I could have turned off all the room lighting to see the signage lights better.
Thank you, Matt. I had been thinking about filming another item, but was surprised to see no videos on this except what appeared to be a clip of a prototype, so I decided to do the crossing gate next so folks could see it in action. Thought people would get a kick out of it since it is something quite unique.
Are you referring to the steam engine in this video? It's my Strasburg #972, which is a one of 25 made. A 4-6-0 Lionel Legacy engine. How much I give can vary depending on how long it was since I last used it. I try not to overfill to avoid damage to the engine or have it splatter everywhere. I typically give it 5 drops with a pipette.
It is very cool but seems more like the kind of durability you would find on HO stuff. I enjoy the more detailed "Hi Rail" phase of the hobby but also miss when Lionel was "The big train for small hands" as none other than the late, great Johnny Cash remined us in this ad. th-cam.com/video/vvenARvF5EU/w-d-xo.html
Better hope the train Doesn't derail 😢.Could you imagine a big cast iron locomotive running over top of that thing......😮 crunch? There goes two hundred dollars😊😊
Oh yes, a derailment at the crossing would definitely be bad news. The gate signal would be a heap of trash for sure with a collision of any type. Super glue can only do so much!
That’s a nice crossing and interesting just like the real one but it is way overpriced. I thought about getting it but decided my money could be spent better on Rolling Stock or toward and engine. It looks too delicate as well. Very nice though 👍🏻
So they actually finally made one of these. I scratchbuilt one years ago, and always thought they should make one of these, it would appeal to both their goofy Halloween stuff, and it is still a prototype crossing. Looks like my basswood one might actually be more durable than this cheap Chinese made piece of overpriced garbage. And geez, could they have found a more tinny sounding speaker?
Nice, you were ahead of the curve! If yours was constructed out of even toothpicks it would probably be more durable than this offering. I haven't tried putting it away from my layout yet because I'm afraid I'll break it. Honestly.
Thanks so much. It is very neat, but you are right. The construction is very cheap and delicate. Definitely not like how things were made back in the day, unfortunately.
just saw a picture of the real thing on reddit and went down a rabbit hole - what a cool little model!
Lol, hope you were able to get out of that rabbit hole! It is a really interesting real life story and a great looking model. Just delicate!
I hope someday they make this in HO scale
I definitely see it happening!! We just need it to get more attention.
I like the fact that they put a accurate siren on it! It sounds like a Federal Signal Model A
Cool, thank you!
Federal Signal Model As were the exact models used.
@@AlexTraxxasI was pretty sure ! Great
I don't know if there was only one or two but they got the sound right and that's all that matter :p

That is a very nice RR Crossing. Looks really good. I seen it in the Catalog but this is the first time I've seen it Live. Enjoy it Chris.

@othersideofthetracks I am only running MTH Track now. If I was running Lionel I'd definitely get one myself.
Right, all MTH track on your layout. Have you had a good experience with the MTH track? I've never tried it myself.
6:27 When Britt Alcroft Died:
Sad news.
I’m so GLAD this wasn’t made during My childhood Years. because if it was, It would have scared The Frappee outta me!
Nice gate crossing.New subscriber here
no gate
Awesome, welcome to the channel and thanks for subscribing!
Cool crossing gate signal!
Glad you liked it, thanks!
Quick question. How many drops of smoke fluid do you give your Strasburg 90?

@@othersideofthetracks No, I was referring to your Strasburg 90 2-10-0 locomotive.
Ah ok. Put 20 drops in with pipette first run, then maybe 5 drops second time.
That siren is ridiculous
The siren has an off switch, thankfully.
Nice video men!!!!!
Thanks, glad to hear you liked the video.
Do the lights work without the siren just to double check before I possibly buy? Thanx
Yes, the lights will still work. The on/off switch is just for the siren feature.
@@othersideofthetracks hallelujah - thanx for your time bud. Expensive as hell but Lionel has always been expensive but this should be at $129.99 tops
Sounds like the train crossing at the steel plants.
Cool
A slight track modification should let you set up the crossing like you originally wanted it to.
Correct. Adding a special insulated track section would allow the signal switch activator to be placed farther down the track.
Cool 😊
Thanks!
The real crossing is in Mississippi but the gantry was removed in 1970.
It is very cool but seems more like the kind of durability you would find on HO stuff.

They certainly don't make them practically indestructible like the old post-war trains and accessories. Cool commercial!
That would be cool on a siding I think. Not on the mainline .
I got it tucked away in a back corner now serving that purpose. Strasburg #90 is sitting on it!
Neat Chris. Is this prototypical or fantasy?
It’s modeled after the real thing
Yeah, I intended to include a photo of the real life one that existed, but then forgot while editing. Thanks Hunter.
Just pick up mine too
Awesome, good call for getting one! Hope you enjoy it.

sadly everything single item in model RR now is overpriced
Thanks for the comments and checking it out! All valid points.
Yes, it is an expensive hobby. The Ready Made Trains rolling stock is reasonably priced, but is limited. Menards has some more affordable options too.
So they actually finally made one of these. I scratchbuilt one years ago, and always thought they should make one of these, it would appeal to both their goofy Halloween stuff, and it is still a prototype crossing. A neat attraction to the layout...however they just dont make things the way they use to. 🤷😄
Thanks so much. It is very neat, but you are right. The construction is very cheap and delicate. Definitely not like how things were made back in the day, unfortunately.
Yep, sound drives me crazy real fast! Looks cool, though. Cost overall sounds stupid high. Pass.
Just filming this video I was already over the EXTREMELY LOUD siren, but yeah looks cool.
