  • Despite Brunei's immense wealth, financial challenges have impacted even the royal household. The Sultan has shown recent inclinations towards embracing a form of partial democracy, yet the decision to introduce it ultimately rests with him. What motivated this shift, and why was the initiative subsequently abandoned? Unraveling the complexities of Brunei's economic and political landscape, this affluent nation, built on an oil empire, grapples with both financial intricacies and the delicate balance between tradition and modernization.
Silk Road is your guide through the storied history of the far East. Our channel delves into the vibrant histories of the Far East and the Middle East, uncovering the hidden stories of empires, traders, and cultures that flourished along the fabled Silk Road. With fascinating new documentaries uploaded every single week, be sure to subscribe so you don't miss out.

@@khwezelihleshongwe5271 I don’t get your point. There’s countries with autocrats that don’t depend on oil or a single revenue base. China, Russia for example. There’s also countries diversifying their economies like the UAE, the Saudi’s,Qatar, Kuwait, Botswana. Why you making it set in stone that the only base of revenue will be oil? If the British managed to expand from solely depending on their colonies then what’s stopping Brunei?

At 13:32 time of the video Bruneian Empire didn't controlled Vietnam as shown in your video but One thing i would like to share to the best of my knowledge and belief is that Bruneian Empire in the year 1445 under the leadership of Sultan Bolkiah controlled all of the Borneo island as well as the present day Philippines island of Mindanao in the south till Luzon island in the north as well as Manila also and that time was the Golden era or Golden age of Brunei when it's Naval empire controlled Luzon island and Manila in the far north at the time of Ferdinand Magellan arrival in the March of 1521.

It’s really no different to standard politicians🤷🏿‍♂️. The only difference is there’s a singular face to decision making but if you’re talking about daily life for the people there’s no difference. Parliament makes decisions contrary to public opinion routinely. You think you have a say till the politicians go to Dabos, the WEF or some UN convention and start dictating laws no one asked for. The world is run by de facto monarchs. We’re just given the illusion that the power is in our hands.

The original nobody needs nothing there's nothing in the desert ,which is to say the british mad dam sure they had the first access to oil after doing the geological surveys way back in the late 1880's and then made sure they had all the main political aspects of those countries controlled through wealth via the oil till the arab states realised wait a minute its our oil we control the price and how much oil flows, which is why the USA stepped in and started the cost of a barrel of oil and how much oil is made into various products, the opium trade via the golden triangle and then the railways was the first real world magnates.
Also the richest person in the world back then was a chinese person who had something like a couple of trillion dollars to spend, he controlled all the merchant routes around the world at that time and also the people who harvested all the goods which was sold all over the world. His name was Howqua, a Qing dynasty merchant who on the eve of the First Opium War (1839-42) was believed to be not just the foremost Chinese tycoon but the richest man on Earth. 👌✌👍🦘
