Boris Johnson is expected to announce an easing of England’s coronavirus restrictions as he battles to save his premiership.
The Prime Minister and his Cabinet will examine the latest Covid-19 data on Wednesday morning before making a statement in the Commons on Wednesday afternoon.
England’s Plan B measures - which include guidance to work from home, the use of the Covid pass and mandatory mask wearing in shops and on public transport - are set to expire on January 26.
Health Secretary Sajid Javid told MPs on Tuesday that he was “cautiously optimistic that we will be able to substantially reduce restrictions next week”.
No final decisions have yet been made, although any attempt to extend the restrictions beyond the cut-off date would trigger a fresh confrontation with Tory MPs, something the Prime Minister would wish to avoid as his position has already been weakened due to the row over Downing Street parties.
Asked whether restrictions would be lifted during a visit to a hospital on Tuesday, Mr Johnson said: “We’ve got to be careful about Covid. We’ve got to continue to remember that it’s a threat.”
A total of 19,450 people were in hospital in the UK with Covid-19 as of January 17, Government figures show.
This is down 2% week-on-week, though the total has risen slightly in the most recent two days.

There was a radio 4 interview with a lady from Port Vale last month, she was attacked about uptake in the mild unproven therapeutic amongst players. She answered saying many players are concerned about the amount of athletes collapsing, dying or retiring in sports, the presenter said there is a problem with the line and went to the next guest ''we should just reduce these players wages shouldn't we, hit them where it hurts'' absolutely disgusting. Any concerns are censored immediately.

Tedious was actually the word that came to my mind listening to this gentleman talk. Julia's "explosion" on the other hand, mirrored exactly how many people Feel, in moments like this, but notice how she can come back to talking reasonably and asking valid questions, which is something not all of us Feel that we can do anymore.
Finally someone standing up for sanity!, thank you Julia, that was exhilarating!, so much so, I've watched maybe 5/6 times, shared around all my family and I will most probably watch it again!, fantastic.

These decisions have been cross party, not just the tories. In fact, if you look around, the countries with the worst restrictions are left wing governments. New Zealand, Australia, Canada. Same in the US, Democrat run states have tended to have the most severe measures. The left seems to have a penchant for authoritarianism.

Talking about the EMA ,they had a press conference a couple of weeks back where they said that multiple "boosters" should not be given because they are worried about people developing VAIDS .Other medical people have said this before but,I feel that for the EMA to say this they must have some evidence already that it is happening.
