    I recommend tinting the windows. It will reduce heating/cooling energy needs and help with keeping light out when living out of the vehicle.

      You need ceramic tint for that.
      Ordinary tint won't reduce heat, only light.

    I've seen many videos of people who live in their prius either full time or part time. It is 100% doable and in fact it has many features that may be useful to live in. I know some vanlifers have that box hitch storage and if they are mounted correctly (sometimes they aren't!) they do hold up well. There are camping additions to prius' available, I'm sure you know about them. It's an exciting adventure, and a prius is actually a decent way to get around though obviously a van is a bit more comfortable but also a lot more constly up front and in terms of gas!

    Also look into a Habitent for disbursed camping. Collapsible bowls work great for doing the little things like brushing your teeth, washing dishes, etc. Obviously, pushing your front seats forward and tipping the seats forward will give you more headroom, but make transitioning from the front to back seat more difficult.

    You should get a Prius Tent , which is designed to fit over your open hatch for more room . You could use it in areas you feel are safer , like camp grounds. Also push your front seats all the way forward when sleeping in back, and it will give you more room. I have a 2014 Prius like it and love it.

    Hey guys! Welcome to car living! I lived out of a Lexus CT200h (basically a Prius) for two years. Storage is SUCH a pain and having to maneuver around a hitch any time you have to open the trunk is not ideal, so I would highly recommend getting a tiny cargo trailer to keep water, bulky stuff, and a toolbox. You can also strap that spare tire to it to open up more storage space where it was laying in the bed. Best wishes!

    If you have a hydration bladder for hiking, put it in the pocket behind the seat (or hang it from the seat) and then put the tube over your shoulder. Really convenient to drink water while driving

  • @donnakano282
    @donnakano282 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If you plan to go off-road or into rough roads, look into the 1-1/2” lift kit. More lift will interfere with the suspension. If you put a roof box on the Prius, it can severely impact your gas mileage, depending on model and type of rack. Enjoy the full-time AC.

    So exciting!! Get a visor-type bag for your toiletries so you can take it into the bathroom with you wherever you stop. :) My favourite part of an adventure is figuring out all the organizing and packing systems that we will need. You will figure it out then as you actually are living and travelling then you will keep tweaking. Oh and reach out to "Jackery" to have them sponsor you. I LOVE our Jackery. It charges as you travel so you will always have more than you need when you travel. We boon dock with a 500 all the time. We wish we had 1000 so keep that in mind. :)

    Can I suggest packing a small tent then if you’re camping somewhere without a designated pitch you can leave the tent with some things in your spot whilst you take the car off to explore? My mum and I have a camp-converted berlingo and this is what we do. Also a small top box might be good for food storage to keep out the way of animals

    I like what you said about freedom vs comfort. A big camper van can’t go as many places that a smaller Prius can go. I find this way more interesting when you take this even further with the idea of bike packing and bike touring. Bikes are not as comfortable and fast to travel the country on but they are way more environmentally friendly and often better for exploring cities and the wilderness because they can go a lot of places a car can’t. I love channels like Ryan Van Duzer that travel places like Mexico by bike.

I just started planning a trip towards the end of the year and my goal is to use ONLY points from the cash back programs on my credit cards to pay for the entire trip. Not sure how you guys feel about Credit cards (I find people either love ‘em or hate em) but maybe it would be a good plan for you guys to open a card affiliated with your favorite hotel chain, and stack up points towards free nights just by using it on all the things you will already be buying, like gas! And of course all the yummy food you plan to try. Just an idea. Have fun! Can’t wait to see the next episode.

    What year and model Prius did you buy?

    buy the best set of tires you can get and ditch the spare, like toyo all-terrain.

    • @2148aa
      @2148aa 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I vote for keeping the spare. (All tires can go flat) Spare donut can standup upright where rear seats hinge. (I run full size) Get a good breaker bar is a plus for the lug nuts) Mexico requires there own auto insurance. Travelers health insurance. International drivers license because in the states// Mexico sends the tickets back to post on record. Prius does belly out on everything// This you will learn the hard way. Phones with Mexico USA and Canada calling plans. Most of Mexico, the elevation is high and gas octane is low. Water purification is a must just like India. Toothbrush rinsing is where everyone picks up local bugs.

    Late to the party on this channel, but going through the videos in order!
    Also, love me some Vancity; been doing my financials there for almost 40 years - a great credit union that beats the tar out of the banks on all fronts. 💪🏻

    Can't wait to see how many times people try to steal your catalytic converter. That year and model is one of the biggest targets.

      It was a Honda Element but yeah it would’ve been sick. I have one right now and am trying to build it out similar to the Prius set up

      Sigh… agreed. The space would have been awesome. Fuel efficiency wasn’t great on it though. So some trade offs there.

      The thing is that, while ideally they will be able to go without climate control at night, the Prius (and other hybrids) is a generator on wheels and can run the climate control all night on less than a gallon of gas if the weather should get nasty. Plus like they mentioned, gas mileage. My 2021 Prius is running at about 57mpg. That might go down a bit if they need to add a roof box or bike racks.

    I love you guys, but you do know that hybrids are not that fuel efficient outside the city, right? Hybrid only shines in a stop and go traffic.

    I bought the ICECOGO20 fridge and a Bluetti power bank to keep the fridge running when the engine is off for my cross country trip this summer. Lots of options out there, but I opted for the more expensive option for the fridge because the compressor gets great marks.

    Would be pretty cool to remove the back seats and build a custom foldable bed out of wood. I’ve seen people do it with jeeps build but not sure how it would be in a smaller car.
