Right Back to Where We Started / September 3 & 4 (Highwood Montana Wheat Harvest)

  • The final night was spent in our home on wheels. The last turn was made for our 2023 wheat harvest adventure.
    Harvest routine clashes with home routine until the transition is made. Until then, it feels disorganized and messy. It will take a couple of days and soon all of the past weeks will feel like they never happened.
    Thank goodness for memories…and videos!
    Jim is back in the combine picking high-moisture corn.
    And so it begins.
    THANK YOU so very much to being a part Of Our journey!!
    See you again very soon.

    Tracy and Jim, I have truly loved your videos this past harvest season. You have seen some pretty great stuff around Highwood and I love the scenery as well as the bumper crops. It’s amazing what we can grow when God tips the clouds over and blesses the farmer. It doesn’t happen all time, especially in the dry prairies, so how special it is when you can be apart of it. I love watching the August videos over again. Thank you for taking us with you and I hope you can join Brett and the gang next year. Great Falls was so interesting too. I’d love to go one day. May God Bless you and Jim this next year. Rest up for next season. Keep doing this. We love it. I love the old videos too. Great times on the older combines.

    hi Tracy. i do hope that you are enjoying being back home and having no equipment to clean. I really loved your harvest videos this year. The first day that you were going out to the combines, the look on your face was like a little girl at Christmas time. Jim also seemed more relaxed this year too. Would have liked to see more motorcycle videos. Thanks again for taking us with you.

      Hi Tracey.
      I am sincerely enjoying looking at the older videos.
      I try to not do a lot of comments on the older videos BUT you know me, I get my typing fingers going even on the older videos.
      I feel I am bothering you by you do a return comment. I know you have other things to do other than respond to the old guy from Iowa, ha!!!!!
      I appreciate the fact you do as it keeps the connection going. But just wanted you to know on the older ones if you are busy I understand.
      I don’t know if I explained that right, but knowing you, you know what I mean.
      I usually do a couple of the older ones each day.
      Thanks for your comments always.

    • @ZeorianHarvestingTrucking
      @ZeorianHarvestingTrucking  ปีที่แล้ว

      There were a variety of reasons. The number one being it was time to trade machines and Jim just didn’t have it in him to continue the fight. The fight being trying to continue to find the acres it took to make everything work. Equipment is so crazy expensive. And if you don’t keep good equipment while on the road, you’re broke down. And we couldn’t afford to break down - not with a one combine show. Expenses kept cutting into the profit margin and it was just time to be done. Before we worked for 40+ years to go broke. You see, the custom harvester doesn’t have any sort of safety net. There are no government subsidies or risk management insurance. We simply had to find the work to make the payments. I honestly don’t know how this industry will/can survive. It’s not the same industry it was when my grandpa ran combines. Or even when we began. We started seeing changes about 10 years ago. Lots more farmer-owned combines and less wheat acres. The harvester needs the small grains from Texas to Canada to make it all work.

    • @denniswhite5566
      @denniswhite5566 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for replying. I understand I bought a farm in 1978 with the intention of farming it when it was paid off in 12 years but by then equipment was so expensive I would have to farm an additional 2-3 thousand acres to pay for the equipment and my living expenses. By then I had a family and was 40 and halfway to a teamster pension so I was afraid to take the leap of faith. I just continued to share crop and stayed working.@@ZeorianHarvestingTrucking

    Hi Tracy, I've actually been following your family from clear back when Jenna started doing the All aboard harvest blog in the High Plains Journal. Back when you guys were running the CIH 2588. Watching your kids grow up and now you guys transitioning into semi retirement has been a great journey. The hard work you and Jim have put in over the years is something to be very proud of. Its nice to hear your backstory and family traditions of the harvesting lifestyle. I am glad everything worked out great this year your prayers were answered by God to not have to end it the way it was looking like it was going to. I recall watching the video of you guys stopping back off at your combine buyer's place (which isn't too far from me) and you went back to crawl into the machine. I know even as a guy what you were feeling. It was your life's work seemingly coming to an end. Guys feel it too, but don't show, it or we express it differently. It wasn't meant to end that way. You have too much experience and joy doing it. Hopefully working with Brett's family was a great fit and I hope that becomes a new tradition. What a great place to go on a vacation/work trip. WOW. Look forward to more fall harvest videos. Everything in central Kansas has or is burned up if its dryland so there won't be much in the way of fall harvest here so I guess I'll rely on your videos to remind me of what real fall crops look like.

    THANK YOU TRACY and JIM
    See how the good Lord provides for a "newly"
    retired hard working couple of harvest experts!
    My prayer is that your "latest" harvest family contacts
    you sooner-than-later about your plans for the next harvest
    season with them in your beloved MT.
    And at the rate they fed you, have you jumped on the scale yet?
    Just kidding-- --I know you both "worked" in off many times over!
    Thank you both for taking all of us along!

      They have already said we have combines to drive if we can get back.❤️
      As far as the food…no, I haven’t stepped on the scale on purpose!

    Thanks for taking us along on your trip to Mt. The farmer up there was so impressive with the size of the farm and the big crop they had . Take care and see you later.

    Hate to see it come to an end. Always enjoy seeing the videos. Growing up on a farm let me go on harvest after years gone by for me. Looking forward to fall harvest. We did not do that. In the fall my dad planted wheat then harvested cotton. Winter time was taking care of cattle and then spring it all started over again. A farmers life is hard, but can be very rewarding. He did it for over 70 years, so he must have liked it.
