I had the privilege of getting to see him perform Stories by Heart in Boston several years ago. The man is a consummate story teller. The mime story he tells here is reminiscent of how he told the stories in that performance. His performance is incredibly engaging, and as someone else already mentioned, "lovely" is an entirely appropriate adjective. I'd highly recommend anyone who has the opportunity to go see his performance in NYC.

Well, vast quantities of excess soda sugar and grease from fatburgers with extra cheese-like product aren't bloating his soft carapace, his head part isn't full of excrement and doesn't sprout hair-ish fungal urine he teases into some whacked out septuagenarian's faded memory of an Elvis D.A., plus he doesn't spend every waking hour occupied in grabbing at every pudenda he spots, fleecing rural white American morons out of their life savings & laundering stolen rubles thru the operating accounts of his grossly inflated-rate hotels, resorts & golf clubs.
So naturally he's gonna seem less like a Real American born in the Yew Ess Eh & raised an exceptional dipwad, while a heck of a lot more like he was born, raised & actually schooled in a civilized country with the Rule of Law, where folks speak English with a North American accent anyone can understand, & no one sounds like they oughtta be settin' on somethin' made of whittled wood ogglin'' his sister while fingerin' a banjo or vice versa.

    • @ourcorrectopinions6824

Gary focused so much on getting his voice, almost as a perfect impression, that he neglected to really find his soul or full personality (which Lithgow did beautifully).

A friend and I saw this performance eight years ago at The National Theatre in London. It was his 64th birthday that day and when he told us that, the whole audience burst into an impromptu rendition of 'When I'm Sixty-Four' by The Beatles. Happy Birthday British Style. John Lithow is my distant cousins. We are both descended from the religious leader of the pilgrims on the Mayflower. Elder William Brewster. You used to be able to find lists of his famous descendants on Wikipedia. They took it off. You can find descendants of Brewster's son, Love, who I am descended from. Love was born in Holland during the years they were living there. Not all the children came on the Mayflower, but Love did. Some were sent for later. Among Love's descendants Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Bruce and Laura Dern. They shortened the list. Descendents I remember from Elder Brewster's list are John LIthgow, Hannibal Hamlin-Lincoln's VP, the lady who played Beaver's teacher on Leave it to Beaver, Ashley Judd, Seth MacFarlane, Sarah Palin, Richard Gere, Julia Child. First film I saw Lithgow was "Blow-Out" (1981). It's an excellent movie.

It’s so nice to see him moving well. I get worried watching him play Churchill in The Crown. (Speaking of terrific performances.)

John Lithgow told that curtain story before and it was an amazing (I think live) performance. For the life of me I can't remember where that was. I really want to listen to it again.

I'm I the only one who just remembers him for Lord Farquaad?

I’ve never particularly liked him as an actor, but what a magnificent storyteller! Definitely paying attention next time I see he’s starring in something.

I want a radio talkshow with this dude and John de Lancey. They can have a call-in game where listeners try to tell them apart.

There's a cat named after your character in another popular work, Mr. Lithgow. ;)
