Why not at fish, aquatic snails and other aquatic life to further condition the water and feed the ducks? A section meshed off with apertures only big enough for fish to pass through can help prevent too many fish from being eaten. If you have the right pond plants, such as duckweed, and other aquatic life, would you still need to add chemicals? Wouldn’t it be possible to use a fountain to trickle the cleaned water in, and gravity draining pipes trickling water from below, out to plants grown in a ceramic rubble medium filtration system, a.k.a. Aquaponics? I’m just an armchair learner with backyard ideas.

Love your videos. My question is this. If chicken manure needs too be composted before using it how is using duck manure water safe since it’s not composted yet.ok, so I now see why it will need to be airfares lol. My tank smells a mile away lol I am going to try and used the tank valve to let the water flow out and filter back in somehow .....I hope lol

Great question! A few things: 1- it's diluted and aerated first 2 - it's watered into healthy living soil, not overhead watered onto plants 3 - it's being used on perennials, not leafy greens that can more easily translocate and hold nitrates

Matt Powers - The Permaculture Student hmm ok. I mostly grow root crops so that isn’t a good area. I am starting an area covered in woodchips to grow beans, cucumbers and squash that it may work well in then.

@@Zeldabug24 Ok so not a question about the video, but for your system - for best practices, I'd always be adding in EM regularly to turn the nitrogenous compounds like nitrate into amino acids so they are directly absorbed by plant roots and microorganisms - it's like insta-compost. There are videos on my channel on using EM, and we go into it extensively in The Advanced Permaculture Student Online.

Matt Powers - The Permaculture Student if I could show you a picture I would. It’s basically a raised inc tote designed into a duck pond. What are EM? I have rain water catching set up to run directly into the tank and a ramp for the ducks to go in and out( finishing the design). I will add a hose attachment to the valve the water drains from to fill water cans.
