There simply aren't enough words in the Thesaurus to describe how great Wolf Alice are. This is perfection, soaring, majestic and beautiful - the best band of the last 10 years for sure
It's a very anthemic song, the way it builds over verse and chorus, as emotions swell. It summons up artists like David Bowie, Freddy Mercury & Queen, but also a uniquely Wolf Alice beauty. I don't love every song they've ever produced. But the ones I do love, I can listen to them over and over again.
I love the backing vocals she does on their albums. High registers that just mesh really well with the lead vocal in specific places as accents and emphasis. I love their productions. Not simple at all. Very intricate. They spend a lot of time and it shows. Refreshing in our loops world today.

Why
[Verse 1]
Who were you to ask for anything more?
Do you wait for your dancing lessons to be sent from God?
You'd like his light to shine on you
[Verse 2]
You've really missed a trick when it comes to love
Always seeking what you don't have, like what you do ain't enough
You'd like a light to shine on you
[Pre-Chorus]
And every book you take
And you dust off from the shelf
Has lines between lines between lines
That you read about yourself
But does a light shine on you?
[Chorus]
And when your friends are talking
You hardly hear a word
You were the first person herе
And the last man on the Earth
But does a light shinе on you?
[Verse 3]
Who are you to ask for anything else?
The thing you should be asking is for help
You'd like a light to shine on you
Let it shine on you
Let it shine on you
[Instrumental]
[Bridge]
A penny for your truth
But I hedge my bets on love
'Cause it's lies after lies after lies
But do you even for yourself
And then the light shines on you
[Chorus]
And when your friends are talking
You hardly hear a word
You were the first person here
And the last man on the Earth
But the light
Thank you!
What does "But do you even for yourself" mean here? I thought it was "But do you even fool yourself".

This is the most amazing song I've ever heard in my life ❣️
I love songs where every second you have to turn up the volume! One of those songs that is never loud enough
I pray that this haunting song will be the final one played at my funeral/memorial. Saw them last night in Nashville and cried the whole song.
Heard it today on the Hulu series Mayans and had to find it. Loved it❣️
Ellie's voice is majestic. So so beautiful
So magical.
I just have to say, this song is the ANTHEM for me in my life right now. Came at just the right time. Such a special gift. Thank you again.
This might be one of the best songs i've heard in years.... Beyond excited for the album x
