ECOWAS Exodus: Niger, Mali, & Burkina Faso's Anti-Colonial Uprising Continues

  • On January 28, Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger announced their withdrawal from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), a bloc condemned by West Africa’s popular movements as a vestige of French neo-colonial control of the region. In a statement announcing the exit, the three countries stated, “Under the influence of foreign powers”, the regional bloc of ECOWAS “has become a threat to its member states.” Kwesi Pratt, Jr. the General Secretary of the Socialist Movement Ghana (SMG), explains how West Africa’s popular movements are rising up against French neo-colonialism and what the withdrawal means for the region.

ICJ is a complete joke just like the u.s. supreme court as they lack integrity and credibility to deliver adequate justice to citizens of the world. These institutions are heavily influenced by corporations and politicians.
The delibration announced on the litigation against the Israeli government and politicians have been a true indictment on the ICJ institution for not holding the israeli government accountable for the AGGREGIOUS genocidal acts against the people of Palestine and condemn the u.s government and politicians for supporting a terrorist states. Both u.s and israeli should be kicked out of the U.N. Council for their actrocities against humanity. Both u.s and israeli have been a threat to global security and stability since they instigated and started the ukraine and Russia conflict.

As a Nigerian myself, I agree fully with Mr Pratt. The phrase I'd have used myself is: nemo dat quod non habet (no, I speak no Latin, but it means you can't give what you don't have). As he rightly describes, Nigeria is a literal failed state, but instead of making efforts to fix its basic problems, it seeks to teach other countries how to govern themselves. So do most other so-called countries in the region. We want to be the EU of Africa, but without pipe-borne water and electricity, never mind healthcare and other necessities. A very sick and expensive joke, if I ever saw any.

If it has taken 5 months to change from extreme poverty to the fastest growing economy, why not go ask them how they did it. Nigerian oil could make it the richest and it's people be in a class of the Saudi ,Qarter, Bahrain, Buranei etc. But do the rulers care. Yes revolution will come soon and that's what the big boys fear.

That man is right, the USA remained in those countries to salvage what is left from Western imperialism. They cannot be considered a reliable development partner. Therefore, the leaders of those nations should strive to minimize their dependence on US influence. It's wise to maintain a neutral stance, neither embracing them as an ally nor treating them as an adversary, but rather keeping a balanced position.

Also, they seemed to not understand the history of Africa which is based on marginalization, oppression, humiliation of Africans and enslavement from Europe. We love the Europe but we want them to show respect to the continent and its people.. The Europe killed Africans leaders who were for the concerns for the people of Africa.

You guys just talked about issues that you don't even have clues about neither your guest from Ghana has any clues about. Ecowas brought peace to Liberia; to ivory coast; Sierra Leone; Guinea bissau; the Gambia; Mali. Fact check that. This your guest he is disgruntled and not telling truth. Niger just defaulted it debt obligation of 36 million dollars. February third 2024. I will say this these three countries countries has no where to go. Mauritania did the same in 2002 and now they're begging to be allowed. Morroco on the waiting list to join ecowas. Ecowas has done many tremendous work in west Africa.
