It's amazing to see those 1979 Hotwheels. I bought my new real life 1979 Alfa Romeo Sprint Veloce as a young man. I played with Hotwheels when I was a kid. Few years ago I organized my boys Hotwheels to start collecting Hotwheels as a hobby on my own.
1979 was the year I put my toys on hold, great to see the scorchers plying their gumption. As usual a great review and a valuable resource for new and old collectors alike.
Very fun to watch. You are now showing some of the cars I had in the years of my early childhood. The Torino stocker and the 442 are my all time favorites. Thanks for taking the time to share your collections in such detail.
Love everything released in 1979, mainline, patches, scorchers, scene machines, the Heros, and the multi packs including the golden machines. awesome video man.
Just when I start to think that my vintage collection is coming along, I check your channel out every now and then and immediately start thinking about what I want to track down next!
I've always kept my cars in the packages only have opened about 200 of them but I don't think I will ever sell any I going to fully enjoy them, thank you for this video
Another excellent presentation. From 1979, the two castings i like the most is the Monte Carlo Stocker and the Torino Stocker. The Scene Machines are really interesting, i wasn't even aware these existed! Thanks a lot for showing these, and i look forward to the 1980 line.
Really nice collection I remember I had all of them back in the day. I have some of them today I'm starting my collection again alright have a good one.
Ahhhhhh, 1979. My 1st KISS concert and setting my HW track from the top of a staircase that went downstairs then into a loop to loop and on. Taking my TCR set to a friends that had an older TCR set and having a super huge raceway with those stunt cars. I wonder what happened to my purple Golden Crown bag full of diecast cars? Oh well. They were so played with but I only bought those that would have worked best on tracks. Great video as usual.
Great video O-Dawg...One of my favorite years for Hot Wheels...I think I've only seen 2 of those Scorchers before..great to see all of them close up...great explanations of the variations too!
Thank you very much for your comment Dave, the Scorchers are so cool and tough to get much info on these days. I wish I had more of them for the upcoming years, but most people don't know what they are or how old and rare they are unless still in packaging. The cars don't say "hot wheels" anywhere on them.... so most probably end up in the garbage or sand box.
Fantastic man, really enjoyed hearing about these and the approximate rarity and values of some of them. Congratulations on such a great collection so far, and hope you can fill those gaps.
Fabulous video once again!....great stuff and your collection never ceases to amaze. Those vans with the viewfinders are super cool....reminds me of the old GAF viewfinders.
Thank you very much for your support, comment, and watching my vids... I'm very happy you are enjoying this series. Comments like yours are what make sharing my collection with everyone on TH-cam worth while! :)
Great video and commentary - got a question - do you have any cases. You know the ones that held 12 cars or more and there was one that was a pop up - these were cases that had graphics of Hot Wheels on them back in the day? I don't know if you did a video on cases but was just wondering if you have cases that you like over other ones. Or if you had a special collection of them. Thanks for the video!
Thanks very much for the question, I do have quite a few of the 12 car cases from across the years, some from Mattel, Matchbox, and other brands. I'll include those in an upcoming video!
I was born in 79 and I happen to bring a 56 Hightail Hauler (yellow) to "show and tell" in Kindergarten in 1984. My first memory of school and I've always wanted to get my hands on one. Cool collection
I love watching your videos I use to have well over 2000 hot wheels but they got lost in a fire I am hoping to get back in to it soon that's a lot of money to
I am sorry to hear of your loss, personally I would be devastated if that happened to me, as I am sure you were. Good luck with rebuilding the collection, and happy hunting!
LoL on the Scene Machines the Moto Cross Team a driver looking back and some other things on the floor...... That was Dave come on man you know Dave geeez he's more then some things on the floor, Spider man is shooting web at Dr. Doom. Great collection really enjoy seeing and hearing about them.
I find it amazing how much these cars have influenced our lives from childhood to adult and the collecting culture of it From crashing and bashing them as kids To carefully handling them rarely rolled Dare not roll them on concrete asphalt or cement Table top testing mostly as adults. LOL if We only knew now what we didn't know then. 😃 nowadays
hey wtffor, I collect the pullback cars. Have every scorcher carded and various loose. really nice collection you have here. i had a scorcher chamber as a kid. there are a few other very cool line of pullbacks from matchbox and mego from around the same era. cheers!!!
Awesome video. It was quite absorbing! You have a very similar collecting criteria as I do except we have quite different budgets! So, prior to 1990, I settle for completing the casting even if its a later reissue, and exercise patience until I find the original for that year, a slow deal! Have you completed all years from 1968 to 2017?
Thanks for watching and your comment! Completing a casting collection is no small feat either, good for you! To answer your question, my collection of Hot Wheels is mostly complete from 1974 to 1995, and about 60% of all castings beyond that. I don't collect fantasy models beyonf 1995, hence the lower percentage. Also, pre-1974 is beyond my price range for collecting, hence I have not started that collection and have very few cars from that time period.
I have not bought any more M2 other then the AutoTrucks 6 vehicle set, which I reviewed in a recent video alongside Hot Wheels Car Culture Race Day. Did you see that one?
wtffor no worries mate, hot wheels are cool, i only started collecting them a few years ago, got around 300 now ,still boxed lol. they were my favourite toys when i was younger,,, im 40 now and all of a sudden i just had to start collecting them lol
I've been watching your videos for a while now, lots of good info! I have a 1979 Hot wheels car (Hong Kong base) that was not included in your line-up, just wondering what it is? No model name on the base.
I have one myself, also mint, and it took quite a while to hunt that variation down. I believe I paid around $30 or so for that car loose. The more common variation is worth around $3 to $5 mint on card. Hope that helps! :)
Thanks, man. I only paid $4 for mine. I didn't know about this rare variation and bought it just to have a Gleamer Patrol. It was mint on card and I opened it, only to realize it had a black interior. Oh, whatever happened with the Tonka truck contest?
Dude I'm a Captain America fanatic! That van with the scene is pure insanity! ...specially in that condition! I heard your price evaluation however in the off chance you were going to sell this item, how much would you ask for it?? All hypothetical of course! Edit: ...or the second grade Captain America FireBird!??
Thanks for the info, I believe it must be a variation then. As for value, that's a tough one. For an extreme collector, the value would be higher then the $10 I paid for mine, but then again I already have one. I would put a value on it of $20 if advertised correctly.
Many castings had the date a year or two earlier than the actual release. Likely a copyright issue and / or prototype development of the casting before actual release year.
wtffor I have 25 80s hot wheels I'm a 12 year old collecter with a collecter guide and 1,000 hot wheels. If you have any cars you don't want I'll take em.i also trade.
Amazingly, Hot Wheels have been sold for between $1 and $2 for their entire existence, the first cars in 1968 cost $1 each, and to this day they can be bought for the same, regardless of inflation. Yes there is more plastic in the cars, but the main reason that Mattel can maintain the affordability is that the cars are produced in such mass numbers, millions per year or more, so the cost remains low. Thanks for watching, and commenting!
Nothing wrong with 'played with condition'... just means the cars have stories to tell. I love my chipped and played with cars, and wouldn't part with them.... in future I will make a video on my played with cars.
I have 2 hi tail haulers but one has a variation. I don't know if it's legit. I got it at a flea market. It cost me $1. It has a gold base as opposed to the chrome one. Did you know about that, or is it fake? The rivet looks alright but the axles look a little shady.
Sometimes the chrome plastic bases turn gold for whatever reason, something to due with aging under certain conditions. Most likely it is legit, unless the base has been obviously painted.
I have an 1979 Hot wheels car, by the way I don't know which car it is? But I'm 8 years old so how do I have it? Obviously my dad gave it, it's not strached or the paint is off, it's all neat and clean and no straches, just good as new!
Hello wtffor. I have found a yellow and white tampo variation mongoose. It’s in quite a bit better condition than yours but still it’s not fantastic. The rarest in my collection?
This is complete 1979? I have 2 79s not in video. 34 ford could red line and vette-van. I'm not sure and by far no expert, did they produce cars that use different years then when manufactured?
Those two rescue vehicles you have look very familiar like a crash fire rescue truck that I drove for a couple years prior to retiring just a year-and-a-half ago from the fire service they were called the Jaguar used on the Airfield or Airport quite a few years apart from 79 to now🚒
I have a feeling they weren't sold in all stores, and they definitely weren't as popular or produced in nearly the same numbers as 'mainline' Hot Wheels of the time. Hence probably fairly hard to find for most people. Thanks for the comment, and watching! :)
I have many of them in my Hot Wheels Rally case. Far from mint ass they were played with. Luckily when I outgrew them they were put in my dresser drawer and forgotten about.
hello it a very beautiful colleccion, i am 17 of the 1977 in very good condition , in addition to 7 of the 80 , if i send you photos , can you help evaluate your price , in general i have 500 , several of the 90 ,and many matchbox of the 69 --79-80-86 ,and marjorette ,i from chile sudamerica......
I've got a mint NIB Vetty Funny Corvette and I also have a loose mint condition one as well. Message me if you're still interested, they've taken me a while to track down.
Great find! The lots are the best way to go as far as value for your dollar, and every once in a while there are a few rare gems hidden among the bunch. If you pieced out the lot and sold it on eBay, you would likely at least double your money.

The Torino Stocker and Flat-out 442 came in my Criss Cross Crash track set that I had as a child. I think I still have that track packed away.
Very fun to watch. You are now showing some of the cars I had in the years of my early childhood. The Torino stocker and the 442 are my all time favorites. Thanks for taking the time to share your collections in such detail.
Thanks for watching, and nice to hear you are seeing the cars in my collection from your youth. Your support and comment are very much appreciated!
Love everything released in 1979, mainline, patches, scorchers, scene machines, the Heros, and the multi packs including the golden machines. awesome video man.
Thank you!
Great video. Your knowledge of the casting is incredible. One note, the Bywayman was based on a Chevrolet / GMC truck
And it seems like all castings of the Bywayman has no steering wheel

Thank you very much, I really appreciate it. Oh yes, the 80's are coming, and there are a LOT of cool cars released in that decade.
