The explanation of Reigns being the product of bitterness and resentment really makes the way Danielson was written out of the company such great storytelling. If Reigns would have been withholding how he felt about the Rollins turn in the late 2010s, then he surely had to have been as well about Danielson "stealing" his thunder while ascending to the WrestleMania main event. I hope their on-screen beef continues if Danielson ever returns.
Roman and Seth, that is a story that has so much depth to its that it is staggering. Roman's insecurities all boiled down to that chair shot, of trying his hardest to be a good guy but got booed mercilessly, people openly hating them. In a way he looks down at the fans who clamor for him now, how "acknowledge me" is basically "eff you" to everyone who booed him but loves him now. Seth's motivations remain a mystery to everyone but him and his story with Roman can only end one way. It is just not sure what that ending is.
This is true. However it really doesn't work the other way around. World Titles can and should make new stars, yes, but when you have brand new Titles with little to no prestige you need main event level talent with genuine claims to elevate those Titles. The World Heavyweight Title right now is the prime example of this. Gunther is a good talent but let's be completely honest with ourselves. Nothing he's done or is gonna do within the next year is gonna be enough to elevate that Title to the level it needs to be and that's just the honest truth whether people like it or not. He could have done it at Crown Jewel but WWE flushed that opportunity down the drain and had him Lose Clean to Cody Rhodes reinforcing the notion that the World Heavyweight Title is nothing more than a Secondary World Title. If WWE really didn't want Cody Rhodes to Lose (I don't see why considering the fact that Solo Sikoa pinned him earlier during this reign) then they could've had, say, Drew McIntyre in that same position. He could have lost to Cody Rhodes at Crown Jewel and he wouldn't have lost nearly as much because not only is he also an established star but he's also beaten Cody as well as other big names such as Brock Lesnar and Goldberg. There's so many hard working men like Drew McIntyre, Finn Balor, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn who STILL haven't gotten the World Title runs that they deserve and have worked so hard for. With that in mind it's extremely hard for me to enjoy Gunther's Title Reign especially when I know that he's done absolutely nothing to elevate that Title like he said he was gonna do.
The biggest impact Roman Reigns will have on wrestling is the depth to the Tribal Chief character and what it did to the business. I’d say Punk and MJF did this as well with their story and how original that felt but Roman opened the doors for heels like MJF to be vulnerable, for Mcyntyre to turn heel logically, for Rollins to still learn from being a heel, for Owens trying not to relapse into being one and feeling betrayed
Tbh, I think what happened is this is an after effect of WWE’s heels being so generic (from like 2017-2019) that made everyone realize we needed complex villains.
@@00pium_kingvampstan heel guys sucked since like 2011, cm punk was slowly becoming a face guy, he was rarely the few good heel guys, but it felt forced and his promos didn't sound like cm punk, it sounded like someone trying to get heat
What I love about the amount of character work of each of the wrestlers you mentioned, it's so easy to understand why they are the way that they are, it's not so easy to not have empathy or to not relate to the heels anymore because they now reflect the complexities of human nature. The heels are not just "bad guys" for the sake of it, they were hurt or pushed to it.
The OG Bloodline story in 2022-23 had some of the best character work and arcs. Sami first joined them as a complete joke and loser, who just wanted protection and some respect. Roman, so used to ruling through fear and emotional manipulation, finally finds someone outside his family who genuinely loves and wants to follow him in Sami. Jey has been beaten and damaged for two years initially hates the fact that an outsider is being welcomed into their family. Eventually though, Sami gains the love and respect he wanted. He leaves the Bloodline on his own after seeing Roman for the horrible dictator he is. Sami now has enough self respect to be his own man instead of being stuck in a toxic situation as a puppet for the Tribal Chief. For Roman, its another tragedy. His past trauma and inability to trust leads to him pushing Sami away, constantly testing his loyalty when he didn't need to. The salt in the wound is Sami betraying him the EXACT same way Seth did all those years ago. Jey is the biggest winner. He initially HATES Sami for not being family, but comes to realize family isn't just blood, but those who look out for you and love you no matter what. Sami was always willing to believe in Jey. It takes a while, but Jey also recognizes Sami is right: Roman treats them like trash, not family. Before the Bloodline, Sami was the deluded enough to call himself "the great liberator". Yet with Jey, he actually did it. By being the best version of himself, Sami Zayn liberates Jey Uso from the abusive and controlling Roman Reigns, finally letting him be his own man.
This video aged well too because at Crown Jewel, it was clear that Jey still did not trust Roman fully, only Tagging out to his brother Jimmy when given the chance to do so.
@@Giathirdssame with Sami he helluva kick Roman after he tricked Solo thinking he joined them at first everyone thought it was an accident but the segment on RAW addressed that it was intentional because Sami was there to help Jey not Jimmy and Roman
What you see here with every person in this video is consistency. That’s been one of the biggest changes, each character has acted largely within what you understand and makes sense for them. Instead of doing confusing or nonsensical actions for the sake of it like before. This even extends into wins and losses, actions in matches. Consistency and the way they implement it in these feuds and characters has been in my opinion the best thing introduced in this new era. Now I want them to extend it into the womens and tag divisions.
gunther insults randys family and calls him a screw up yet they shake hands after the match, thats literally not consistent to gunthers own words. gunthers supposed to be a heel, yet hes shaking everyones hand and giving “mutual respect”. every heel does this nowadays, so no. there is no consistency
@@UsykWillBeatFuryViaEzDecision gunther and kaiser made a promo recently in which kaiser subtly but visibly questions, in his mind, gunther's attitude and actions.
They’ve been starting recently to do it with the tag team division. New Day is going through turmoil. Ciampa is starting to get unravel on Smackdown. Like the 60 second promo he gave to Johnny about how the titles meant to him last Friday made the tag belts feel more important then they’ve been all year. Heck I feel even Bianca and Jade are gonna start to slowly build their implosion with the Liv promo from last week.
Seth, Roman, Drew, Randy, Cody, Priest, KO, Gunther. All these guys have their own motivations, relations, shortcomings. All their actions have consequences also. And literally anyone can win against one another and it would not effect their star power. Geez what a time to be a wrestling fan
Man that intro was 🔥...you should do a series on good storylines like Evolution and Bautista, Bald Orton, The Authority, NWO and Sting, Flair and Dusty's rivalry...and so many more!!
The most interesting thing about all of the wrestlers (besides priest) in their character development is that the Bloodline had an involvement with them that led from one thing to another
An honorable mention should go to The Rock. His Final Boss persona harbors a profound, almost unhinged resentment toward Cody Rhodes, which feels deeply personal-territory this character has never explored before. Stone Cold and Triple H brought fierce competition; John Cena, even with moments of intensity, maintained an air of rivalry. But with Cody, it’s purely personal from start to finish.
There’s a lot of subtle storytelling going on in WWE now that’s very easy to miss if you aren’t paying attention. Like I’ve had to explain to people that Bianca still doesn’t trust Bayley after Damage CTRL, but there’s been this subtle storyline of Bianca and Iyo gradually starting to develop a mutual respect where Iyo lowkey has Bianca’s number and keeps getting the win over her, but Bianca isn’t mad because it’s fair and square. They’ve grown to be cool with each other despite being rivals. Meanwhile over on Smackdown you have Bayley telling Naomi not to trust Iyo because they haven’t reconciled yet. Feuds do not just get forgotten about when someone turns face, people only move on and start being cool with each other when they actually spend time interacting on screen, even if they’re still rivals. It’s really cool.
Great video, glad you highlighted all of this because this is a very good time (story wise) for wrestling. We don't just get "I'm a babyface now" and all of a sudden everyone is on board. Similar thing going on with Baley and Bianca, Naomi is like Baley is my girl and Bianca is like I've been battling her and Damage Control for like 2 years I'm not cool with her but do you. Makes sense, we aren't just having everyone hug it out because they are the same moral alignment anymore and its so fun to watch. Seeing Xavier Woods shouting to the fans "why are you booing me? I'm trying to win a match" is so good and not sure if WWE is piping the boos in or whatnot but if its genuine boos then you see his point, can't get mad at him for knocking down Rey Mysterio if thats literally his opponent! He's not a bad guy but he's tired of losing and wants Kofi to focus on them only and getting back to their former glory.
Roman Reigns has undeniably transformed the landscape of the sport with his incomparable influence, magnetic charisma, star power, and unparalleled in-ring capabilities. Reigns has cemented his status as one of the most significant figures in the industry. His champion reign was legendary. He is athletic, strong, and has the size for a world champion. He has improved so much from his days in the shield. Being overpushed as the big dog to carrying the WWE during the pandemic era. He is one of the greatest of this generation." He can always get the crowd going and is currently involved in one of the greatest stories in wrestling.
this proves how far WWE has fallen off. yall have no more larger than life Superstars in yalls generation, so yall force it. no one knows who Roman Reigns is, outside of wrestling fans. no crossover appeal whatsoever like top guys before him(Hogan, Austin, Rock, Cena ect)
It’s actually insane to think that the bloodline saga that began in 2020 is still going on after 4 years. This has to be the longest storyline in WWEs history.
Remember back when they Shield broke up and Vince had Roman act all smiley and jokey when feuding with Seth? Also how they had a few reunions like nothing happened just for the sake of it. Thank the lord thats over.
I totally agree it’s like the modern day wrestlers are more like human beings with more personality compared to the past where you had a superhero baby face or a villain hill that was not three-dimensional with personality modern characters are way more relatable with their reasons behind certain actions 🔥🔥🔥
I adore how the poster men of the Pandemic Era in Drew & Roman are the Yin & Yang of WWE in the Renaissance era Drew is arguably the biggest heel but outside of his actions. His words and motives are still face. It's when he sees Punk is when that light fades Roman is arguably the biggest face but outside of his actions. His words and motives are still heel. It's when he stops the new Bloodline is when that darkness shines Only time will tell if they can overcome themselves to reach the top again.
Roman was gone during the Pandemic era and only showed up when things were getting back to normal. And Bray Wyatt was carrying the company during those times. Drew wasn't selling merch or getting high ratings. What's more memorable.... Firefly Funhouse match or any Drew moment?
Everyone will always be overly nostalgic over the Attitude era and for some good reasons but I genuinely think the storytelling in the past few years and what it seems we're gonna get going forward is easily the best character building and narratives in the history of the industry.
These so called "complex characters" are just generic indie guys without a distinguished gimmick. Sami and Kevin look like they live in a shelter. Back then they weren't called characters.... They were called Jobbers.
Its intriguing how all these characters, Cody, Drew, Owens, Sami, Jey, Solo and even Seth all have characters shaped someway by the bloodline and Roman Reigns.
I would put Dominick Mysterio on the list as well. If you would look back from the start of his career in WWE back in 2020 all the way to now, feels like two completely different people. He has done amazing work ever since he turned heel and join the Judgement Day. For months he couldn’t get one word out without getting booed to death, you know you’re that good when you get that type of heat on a weekly basis. Future World Champion for sure
So often when a character turned face/heel its like they became a different person entirely. Now it feels like a logical progression of their character, especially with Roman Reigns and Kevin Owens.
One I really like is Uncle Howdy. No surprise considering that Bray Wyatt was my favorite wrestler. It's not just Uncle Howdy being the same mystical enigma that worked with Bray continuing to do sinister deeds. He's now a grieving man who wears a mask because it hides his pain and gives him purpose. His intentions mix into a blur between creating the Wyatt Sicks to help those he thinks are in need, and just trying to bring himself closer to Bray. A blur between stopping "false prophets" because he sees it as right or because (he thinks) he still hears Bray Wyatt to tell him to do this. He's continuing to be Uncle Howdy because it's the only way he feels like he's worth anything.
The one big plot hole of the angle: Dallas hasn't targeted THE family abuser of family abusers - Reigns. Perhaps there's a more creative way of getting to that one day if the Wyatt Six has become heel ("I lost my brother and all you could do is exploit the family that were like brothers to you.")
@ no it’s not dumb ass you believe whatever what culture and these other smarky TH-camrs word but everything is down triple h is doing a worse job and ratings show that dumb ass
How Liv Morgan has become one of the most hated but yet also somewhat sympathetic and justified since it was Rhea Ripley who betrayed and maimed Liv as part of the Judgment Day.
Incredibly put together video that focuses on the depth which I’ve really enjoyed of the triple h era I do feel like Cody is one that should be looked at as well but you’ve done several videos on Cody so I understand fantastic video 🎉
Right now I’m *really* interested in the Wyatt characters. They come and go and aren’t forced down our throats every week, meaning that they’re a constant threat even if they’ve been absent for a few weeks. They can enter into almost any storyline and leave just as easily. Most of all, each of them have genuine reasons to feel like outcasts and to feel as though their ‘family’ is there to save them. In a way, Wyatt Sicks functions as a morality check on every single other wrestler. No matter who they are, no matter what they’re doing, if there’s even the slightest indication that they’re turning against their stable, W6 will appear and teach them a lesson. I imagine that W6 will last for quite a while longer, gradually earning themselves more and more enemies until they eventually have to fight out in the open (perhaps at Survivor Series next year).
@@khesipresents1885 bro we are talking about storytelling and narrative consistency who cares about position in the card 💀💀 2010's wrestling "fan" ahh dissing

The thing with Seth is he didn't create just one monster, he created two. Imagine if there comes a time where BCC just completely obliterates Seth on a regular episode of Raw.
The character depth is my favourite part about this era. Like have you guys ever thought about Ludwig's story arc through HIS perspective? He must be under crazy pressure
My prediction is that McIntyre is winning the Rumble and challenging Gunther at WM41. My belief is that in the Punk trilogy, McIntyre agreed to just a dirty win and then two clean losses to groom Punk for Gunther (the planned Rumble title direction), so that Punk would then use that currency to further groom Gunther for McIntyre. Additionally, if McIntyre goes on to dethrone Gunther, we now have a logical reason for a fourth match to continue the McIntyre vs. Punk saga. Initially, I believed McIntyre would be traded for Owens (who's going through a similar arc with Cody and Orton.) But with Glasgow set to host Raw in March, the stars are lining up for McIntyre to get his real shot after proving to be a complete team player and in the process become an even hotter act this year.
I think in coming months Cody's character will be very interesting.Up until now,he has been professional with everyone even though many have turned things personal(eg. Roman Reigns,Rock,Kevin Owens,Gunther). But maybe behind the scenes,he has been the BAD GUY,the manipulator(remember Roman said Cody is a politician and Triple H called him the GOOD GUY and said Kevin feels some disconnect in this whole story).Either way,it might set up Cody's heel turn.
To corroborate with what you said about Drew being a hypocrite. My favorite example is that the night after he got cashed in on he said he hated the briefcase, but just a few months later he'd win it and squander it because he wanted to use it so badly he rushed in without even thinking that CM Punk might interfere. You know, the guy he mauled after Clash at the Castle... Another thing about Damian, he's ALWAYS been the least cheating person in Judgement day aside from maybe Rhea. Whenever he was qualifying for the Elimination Chamber or Money in the Bank, he always did it clean. Even his cash in he didn't have any help from the Judgement Day. It wasn't a surprise that Damian wanted to be a respectable champion because for him, Judgement Day was a means for an end. Once he got his title he didn't see anyone as his get out of jail free cards or people he needed, he saw his stable as friends. That's why Finn and Doms betrayals hit him so hard.
2:34 but they can't sell a story like Randy, Cena, Edge, HBK, HHH, or Taker. It might be writers problem, but most current promos are predictible, crowd dependant and really long.
In what world was a HBK or Randy promo not predictable? And HHH pretty much invented long promos- this time around the crowd isn’t completely dreading them
Randy orton was accused for YEARS about being boring on the mic. Super Cena gave PTSD to almost a whole generation of smarks. HHH was the most hated wrestler on earth for a long time because of his reign of terror and his long ass promos. Edge at one point had genuine go-away heat. I can give you a pass about Hbk and the undertaker. You're just trying to be polemical for the sake of it
This was a very well thought out breakdown and retrospective, my man. I agree with the sentiment about this era being the single most interesting and layered we’ve ever seen. The new regime has listened to the audience and to their credit, really committed to character building and long term story arcs that have been both excellent payoffs, that at the same time leave the door open for it to evolve further when the time is right. To me, it’s now the last bastion of live episodic television. Sitcoms and soaps have become relics, wrestling has captured the essence of both and have big meaty men slapping man meat too. In costumes, with sick explosions before and after they fake fight. It’s dope.

But KO's social media posts, his anger at Randy, etc., has helped hammer home that he's not being logical - he has some legit grievances but he's spiraled way out of control in a compelling and interesting way.

So glad someone said something about Xavier. He’s so underrated
@ he’s doing some great character work, I would love to see him go on solo run for awhile
You really think fin and Xavier will be pushed by hhh😂@@jessetaylor260
theyre literally gonna do nothing, this is the problem. instead of actually giving these people creative writing and promo time with outside segments, hhh just flip flops people heel and babyface in hopes they get over. hhh is putting in almost 0 effort into these shows and youre too young too realize it
Dude imagine how good a 'Hollywood Xavier Woods' run would be.
Drew's slow burn heel turn starting with Jey quickly made him my favorite wrestler and it only got better from there.
I enjoy that the main eventers don't need titles to be huge.
great point
Wasn't this always the case? Didn't HHH,Cena, taker,HBK ,Roman all under Vince main event PPVs without belts needed?
@@khesipresents1885 my god, shut up. You're everywhere. Nobody cares what you have to say. Go lay down
@ the fact you say “you’re everywhere” means you everywhere too 😂😂 spammin strangers about wrestling at your age is sad. go make friends
This video aged well too because at Crown Jewel, it was clear that Jey still did not trust Roman fully, only Tagging out to his brother Jimmy when given the chance to do so.
yeah. On the other hand the new bloodline work with insane levels of competent team work. never questioning solo.
Now I want them to extend it into the womens and tag divisions.
consistency? lmao all does hhh books heel vs heel and face vs face programs/matches. we dont even know whether people are heel or not half the time.
gunther insults randys family and calls him a screw up yet they shake hands after the match, thats literally not consistent to gunthers own words. gunthers supposed to be a heel, yet hes shaking everyones hand and giving “mutual respect”. every heel does this nowadays, so no. there is no consistency

This is an amazing video bro 💯, well explained. WWE is in a good place now.. This video reflects that
The most interesting thing about all of the wrestlers (besides priest) in their character development is that the Bloodline had an involvement with them that led from one thing to another
I love these videos. Gives us a lot of new perspectives on these characters

Love the fact that wrestling feels more like a tv show these days than a sport
An honorable mention should go to The Rock. His Final Boss persona harbors a profound, almost unhinged resentment toward Cody Rhodes, which feels deeply personal-territory this character has never explored before. Stone Cold and Triple H brought fierce competition; John Cena, even with moments of intensity, maintained an air of rivalry. But with Cody, it’s purely personal from start to finish.
I love how we are in the era of justifiable heel turns.
Great video you went and did your homework for sure. Well done, sir
Peep Brandon does everything with the red jacket 6:11
Drew rlly had the most complex character so far it has been interesting to watch man!!
Drew is not a heel in my eyes same with KO
I was worried 3 years ago that wwe would never have future stars after Roman Reigns, I'm so glad I was wrong.
how? there would be the next guy pushed to the mantle eventually, I watched NXT and realize WWE may look like the modern NXT in the future
He is one of the greatest of this generation."
He can always get the crowd going and is currently involved in one of the greatest stories in wrestling.
this proves how far WWE has fallen off. yall have no more larger than life Superstars in yalls generation, so yall force it. no one knows who Roman Reigns is, outside of wrestling fans. no crossover appeal whatsoever like top guys before him(Hogan, Austin, Rock, Cena ect)

WWE Has Really Stepped Up
In Terms Of Great Storylines
We Really Are In A Different Era
Something crazy about all of this is the fact that every character mentioned in this can be linked together through the stories of the past few years.
I adore how the poster men of the Pandemic Era in Drew & Roman are the Yin & Yang of WWE in the Renaissance era
Drew is arguably the biggest heel but outside of his actions. His words and motives are still face. It's when he sees Punk is when that light fades
Roman is arguably the biggest face but outside of his actions. His words and motives are still heel. It's when he stops the new Bloodline is when that darkness shines
Only time will tell if they can overcome themselves to reach the top again.
My God, I love long-term storytelling in wrestling
After all, the white half of the yin yang still has a dot of black in it, and the black half of the yin yang still has a dot of white in it.
McIntyre vs. Reigns will be a huge money match when they boomerang back to each other. I'd consider that for WM42 or WM43.
Roman was gone during the Pandemic era and only showed up when things were getting back to normal. And Bray Wyatt was carrying the company during those times.
Drew wasn't selling merch or getting high ratings. What's more memorable.... Firefly Funhouse match or any Drew moment?
Man..I love watching your videos
Shout-out to you ❤
Pls I'd like a continuation of the bloodline story solo era
Everyone will always be overly nostalgic over the Attitude era and for some good reasons but I genuinely think the storytelling in the past few years and what it seems we're gonna get going forward is easily the best character building and narratives in the history of the industry.
This is a nostalgia era in Itself barely any fresh people in the main event
best character building? on what basis? the storytelling is better? again, on what basis?
These so called "complex characters" are just generic indie guys without a distinguished gimmick. Sami and Kevin look like they live in a shelter. Back then they weren't called characters.... They were called Jobbers.
Ngl these are also the best in the WWE right now. Most compelling
The tweener and justified heel era
Its intriguing how all these characters, Cody, Drew, Owens, Sami, Jey, Solo and even Seth all have characters shaped someway by the bloodline and Roman Reigns.
We could be heading for the best written story’s and characters to a level that’s never been seen in wrestling
Naaaah bro… you are very wise. Keep up the great work
I would put Dominick Mysterio on the list as well.
Great video per usual man
The Bloodline is so damn good right now
This video is absolute 🔥🔥🔥 good work
So often when a character turned face/heel its like they became a different person entirely.
The one big plot hole of the angle:
Dallas hasn't targeted THE family abuser of family abusers - Reigns. Perhaps there's a more creative way of getting to that one day if the Wyatt Six has become heel ("I lost my brother and all you could do is exploit the family that were like brothers to you.")
watching the KO part made me hoping Sami would join him soon... what Jey said to Sami was an absolute betrayal
I had pictured Zayn vs. Owens HIAC was the WM41 direction, but you make me think a WM39 rematch might be an even better idea.
damn this was a really good video man
That production value!
"Wrestling is at it's best when it's simple" has been an age old addage that may not be as true as it once was, and I'm totally here for it.
Bro wrestling is drawing less than 2 million viewers no one thinks it’s got better but the little 1.5 million viewers they get now like you

Not talking about Jey in this vid is criminal
its really not. he’s got a whole 24 minute video looking at his arc already😂

This video makes Cody look like a villain, would be good heel turn fuel, either for Randy or Cody
the more I thought about it, I agree 😂
How Liv Morgan has become one of the most hated but yet also somewhat sympathetic and justified since it was Rhea Ripley who betrayed and maimed Liv as part of the Judgment Day.

This right here tells a different story
We are never getting that Walter Fantasy Booking or 4 Horsewomen video 😞

The character depth is my favourite part about this era. Like have you guys ever thought about Ludwig's story arc through HIS perspective? He must be under crazy pressure
I think of Kaiser as somewhat the Lovejoy to Gunther's Hockley. He definitely parallels Jey in the "right hand man" position.
1:03 Thank you.
Rock is super complex now, should've included him
This video needs to be updated to include last week's promo between Cody and KO.
Drew still deserves to get a run in 2025 as world champion. I'd say he deserves it more than anyone on that roster.
I couldn’t agree more, a proper run for him in front of a crowd has been long overdue
I wish they do this complex storytelling with the women division as well.
During 2015-2020
We could predict the Story
Now, we cant even expect how what and when
Really?but I lways predict HHH to job out alpha Academy whenever they have a match
More around 2017 is when it started
You should do full character arc videos
And HHH pretty much invented long promos- this time around the crowd isn’t completely dreading them
You just outed yourself as someone who has not watched the product in several years
Randy orton was accused for YEARS about being boring on the mic.
It’s dope.
SLAP THAT MEAT

Cody and The Story was one of the best things in wrestling history.
This would be the perfect time for Cody to be heel, to announce himself as the master manipulator who just thought about himself after winning the championship.. breaking and making bonds just to have someone by his side to protect his reign.. neither Owens, nor Orton, nor Reigns or Jey were the bad guys post WM 40, it was Cody all the way, making sure he stays at the top at all costs... and this angle could be perfectly merged with Cena's retirement tour as the only guy who has been honest throughout his 20+ year career who tries to remind Cody who he was before..
