Karaoke and yes even gambling are very common in funerals in the PH. The reason for this is not to feel sad during the mourning of someone deceased. The proceeds of gambling is usually given to the family as a donation. Lumpia or fried spring roll, is always a staple on every occassion especially birthdays.
Some foreigners are very surprised to see karaoke & gambling in a funeral. But really its a pinoy cultural thing. The donation in gambling that is usually given to the family is called an abuloy. When gambling in funerals its either tong its or mahjong are played. Also we even have karaokes in jeepneys too.
True. Tho, tbf, it's not like we don't have a "sad" part in mourning, that's usually in the wake (when the dead person isn't buried yet), but even then, there's a bit of fun in hanging out with relatives and whatnot, but you're still in the phase of sadly mourning the loss of your relative (at least, if you're close to them; otherwise, it kinda feels like nothing for some reason). After the funeral tho, the fun of eating with everyone and having karaoke and gambling and whatnot celebrates the life that the person lives, lets you move on from the sad part of mourning, and even makes you better cherish the time you have with your living relatives and friends. ^^
Yup thats the typical filipino accent, we pronounce F as P and the vowels are stressed. Millie is speaking with the filipino provincial accent, i can tell just by the tone of her voice.
Reasons why we have karaoke and gambling during funerals: 1.) To liven up the mood. 2.) For relatives to sing out their sorrows instead of crying 3.) All earnings of the Karaoke machine and gambling goes to the mourning family 4.) To lessen boredom for some of the guest 5.) To remember the dead person by singing their favorite songs
My brain went to me just flipping a switch since i’m both except i’m a failure of both then remembered who was in the clip and realized its funnier if they both stay single
The funeral part reminds me in Taiwan, sometimes when some really rich old people died, they will literally hire strippers dancing on a truck in the funeral.😂 I don’t know if other countries also have this culture, but it is getting rare these days.
For those who don't know that song is a curse 😆😆😆, exagirated reason demon posses someone and kills while at the funeral funny not so funny reason 2 idiots bouting they sang it better next thing you hear *bang* *bang*
@@crowkoraki6910 It terrified me when that kind of news spread when I was a kid 😂 my innocent mind was like "hurting each other just because of a song???" And now I am like "What in the blue hell???"😂
I'm in between the era where karaoke is not common in funeral (atleast in my province). The only thing common when I was a child is the one they called "sakla". It is a gambling game and the family of the deceased get a cut from the money the dealer collected. The first time I saw videoke in funerals is when I was in highschool. Around 2004 iirc, it is also a means to help the family in funeral expenses. You need to insert a 5 pesos coin to sing 1 song. At first I thought, why do they have videoke/karaoke in a funeral? Are they celebrating? They have men drinking beer and singing in karaoke like celebrating a birthday.
Whenever I went to funerals some videokes are not coin operated anymore, mostly they're free to sing. I think it varies by the family's preference on videokes. But when there's gambling usually the proceeds from that is commonly given to the family of the deceased as a donation.
@ExpressoEspresso oh I thought it's just a cut of the money. Thanks for correcting me. Interesting about the videoke. I think it starts as the means to get more fund for the family, but now that it's common. They have it to atleast help forget the sadness.
Not that sure with others but from my experience the "funeral ceremony" and the "entertainment stuff" are separated. The funeral is done in a funeral place or inside the house while the fun stuff is in a different place or outside. The ceremony takes 30 min. People can go to the ent then ceremony then ent/eat or stay in ent if they don't feel like mourning foe the death (place is usually enclosed space with limited seats)

"you think you can make better lumpia than I do!?!? How dare!" -probably Millie 🤣
Bro we had karaoke when my cousin died 😭
honestly. 😭 my cousin’s grandfather died around may this year and when we came from the funeral, the titas were blasting dancing queen
Funerals are more for the living than the dead in ph
karaoke with the titos playing card games in the corner

What the Pickles!!🤣
I am today years old that the reason why people play gambling in funerals is to raise for the grieving family, and im a filipino
Well, I guess it depends on the place/clan. Sometimes, it really is just them having fun with each other and in memory of the deceased lol
So that is why that one time Millie told Enna she can't sing at Millie's wedding but she can sing at Millie's funeral😂

Yea its a thing and payed crying actors too. 😂
Omg? I just realized that karaoke in funerals does sound crazy 😂 mainly I think its to keep the guests entertained.

Maybe because they realized having strippers in a funeral is a bad thing and only weird people do that, I dunno
Filipino also adopting anime as their own culture, Voltes V is so famous there even they song their opening in church mass sermon
Can confirm. Church is the reason why I began watching anime. It’s a bit sad that less and less churches are practicing this.
In my grandma's funeral, We didn't do karaoke but we sang, my brother brought guitar and I brought digital drum kit.
Millie is a real one for that
Phbros I'm rooting for you!!
u-uhm.. m-my lumpias are awesome!

i'd be angry if no one's singing in my funeral. just don't sing My Way of course. don't think they make coffins with a 2 person capacity in mind

10 years ago, Adobo was the most tried Filipino food by foreigners. Now I think it's become lumpia and Sinigang. Sorry if I'm talking about food lmao.
Protect sisig at all cost.
Honestly, as someone who thinks sinigang is better than adobo, I'm glad sinigang is getting the recognition it deserves 😌
