  • On this channel I cover the histories of nations empires and people from all over the world. I especially enjoy focusing on areas that are covered less in the mainstream or examining a familiar topic from a different perspective. Historical topics are combined with animated maps and visuals that I draw, to hopefully condense complicated subjects into a understandable framework that will leave you wanting to learn more. I hope you enjoy these videos as much as I have enjoyed making them :) If you like what you see here then please consider supporting

    Can someone tell me why some are wearing red and others are in black?

    • @papayaw9092
      @papayaw9092 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Both are worn during funerals. Black is in reference to the darkness that has befallen the people due to the demise of a loved one. In Asante culture as in the case of others, death is seen as a enemy who lays its icy hands on our loved ones without any “fair” reason so the RED colour signify how riled up they are at the demise of the loved one. In a typical Asante funeral, especially for chiefs and other prominent leaders of society, these colours are worn and gunshot are fired in the air consistently to show their anger at death and their readiness to “fight” if only it would appear the the physical realm.

      @@papayaw9092 Thanks for the reply!!! So people only wear this at funerals? or are there other occasions when they will wear this kind or red and black clothing?

    • @kwabenadarkwafrimpong
      @kwabenadarkwafrimpong ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mistyblu4485 when the whole Asanteman meets at Manhyia they wear black. They call it Asanteman Nhyiamu (Asanteman Meeting) . The black signifies how dangerous it is when coming to Manhyia . Gone we’re the days when chiefs could be beheaded for not talking well, lie or disrespect the oath of the Asantehene and the golden stool. So you come in black signifying how dangerous it could be.

      Both colours are worn during funerals. Black is worn by sympathizers and red is worn by immediate family members.
