    Favorite "Frozen" story -- shortly after the ride opened in Epcot, they had an adjacent character greeting with Elsa and Anna. I stopped by to see how long the wait was. It was WAY too long, well over an hour. But I said to the cast member at the entrance: "If you had Idina Menzel and Kristen Bell here, then I might get in line!". She replied "It STILL wouldn't be worth it!!"

    I remember Kilimanjaro as a kid and while it was tense, it WAS an accurate reflection of what goes on in a REAL game reserve. Having been to South Africa in 2018 on a REAL safari over the course of many days, it is NOT uncommon even in enclosed spaces to see your guide carrying a pistol (or keeping one in the glovebox of the Land Cruiser) and motorcycle riders in full balaclavas wearing GPS trackers to protect the precise locations of the elephants and rhinos inside the reserve. Oh yeah. They also have a rifle strapped to their back and a shoot first, ask questions later attitude for ANYONE who would try to break into the area and harm the animals. We live in a very insulated and coddled area of the world and should consider ourselves lucky because the original plot for Kilimanjaro safaris is happening DAILY elsewhere on this planet.

    I love DFB Guide I legit watch every day! Just an FYI about Test Track as a GM employee I thought I'd let you know GM and Test Track never parted ways. Chevrolet is a GM car brand. Disney and GM just decided to go a different route with sponsorship to make it more Chevy the car brand and less about GM the automaker. Fun fact as a GM employee we get access to a secret lounge above the waiting area and an instant Lightning Lane admission :)

    • @brookez3116

      My Grandpa was a former GM employee and used to take us up to the lounge all the time. It was awesome!

    Getting rid of great movie ride is the biggest mistake they’ve made in the parks. It was an emblem of the park and a love letter to movies, not to mention a really cool ride with a great role for cast members. Runaway railway’s sketchy technology fails in comparison.

  • @Renatoqfilho

    8:41 changing from the great movie ride to Runaway railway is the most underwhelming thing Disney had done!

    ExtraTERRORestrial was amazing and miss it to this day.
    Told my husband all about the safari and was very sad to see it had changed. He never got to see the original version like I did and would love to see it come back with so many others.

    I loved the Maelstrom ride, but my favorite part was at the end where they had a film presentation on Norway’s economy. Everyone just walked through and out, and I got to sit all by myself in that nice theater and enjoy the movie.

    • @jerryhorn4697
      @jerryhorn4697 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      While I have no objections about Frozen Ever After, I still have that nostalgic longing for the original Maelstrom. Odin's glowing eye, the menacing forest trolls, the plunge into the stormy Atlantic Ocean near an oil rig: those were fond memories. Maelstrom and the original Journey To Imagination were my two favorite Epcot rides during the 1990s. I miss them both!

    I remember riding the original safari ride when I was like 6 and I was terrified and so sad. I was young enough that I thought it was all real and I was scared the poachers were going to hurt us and that the baby elephant was actually hurt. I’m glad they have changed it because it was a lot, especially for little kids. Also rode the OG mission space orange addition on that trip before the intensity of it was taken down after someone passed away on it and that was also a lot. That whole trip was mildly traumatic come to think of it. Haha.

  • @nan7861
    @nan7861 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Re: Frozen everywhere. I rode the Jingle Cruise pre-Covid to enjoy the holiday jokes. As we came around the bend to Schweitzer Falls our guide cried out, “Look! The only thing at Disney that isn’t Frozen!”
    It must not have been an OG joke, because I never heard this quip again.

    Alien Encounter was awesome, Disney needs more "scary" attractions. The safari needs to bring back the falling bridge effect as well. Frozen Ever After is an awful, cheap overlay in World Showcase. Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway is great, but it shouldn't have been the replacement for TGMR, nor should it be in the Chinese Theater.

      Cowardmess or the stupidity of us parents(yes myself included) that ignored the warnings and took my kid on anyway, even after my older child has had a meltdown.

    I’m so glad I got to see the original safaris, won a trip to visit during the cast member /press previews (local Orlando radio). It was super well done and a great message, but yes a little out of place. I still expect that bridge to “break” every ride, though lol.

    OMG I still have the stuffed animal, Skippy, from the extraterrestrial ride. He was at the pre-show and was transported from one tube to another only a couple feet away. He came out kind of burnt and complaining to the tech, who claimed he was just a little toasted. It just reminded me of my mom burning the grilled cheese and trying to downplay it.

    I went on the original Safari as a young kid and had no idea it changed since then. I knew it was fake since well, it's a theme park! It was an introduction to the concept of poaching and a very powerful one that I still remember to this day. It wasn't traumatizing, just very eye opening about how dangerous the world can be and how badly animals can be treated. I see nothing wrong with how it was, sometimes shocking lessons are the best.

    We happened to be in the Magic Kingdom on the very first day of a trial run for Extraterrestrials Alien Encounter. It was so exciting. We filed in in this order...first my husband ,me,my sister, my 10 year old niece and my 9 year old daughter. The seat harnesses came down trapping is in our seats. The show began and I loved it until I heard my daughter screaming and I realized I couldn't get to my baby. She was left without parental support and I was devastated for her. The ride was well done for an older age but we had no warning that it wasn't good for young children. Evan a few years later after changes had been made she wouldn't ride it. When Stitch took over it was fun. She still has all the staff autographs from that day. She is now 37.

    Pirates actually had at least one woman chasing the male pirate on the original ride.
    Also, General Motors and Chevrolet are the same thing. It was my understanding that they changed the name from GM to Chevrolet because of brand recognition.

    Uk baby here. I remember doing the orange ride as a kid on mission space and I LOVED IT!! Not been back since I was 10 (im 19 now and trying to save for another trip) ur lucky because you can just hop in the car and drive a few hours but I got to have a 7 hour plane journey plus the getting to the airport which would take a few hours and then the price which would be several thousand pounds at least. One day I will be back and I’m keeping up to date with your videos to make me feel like I’m there in spirit

    The thing that was great about Alien Encounter: it was a fun thrill “ride” without high G-forces. No one needed Dramamine or sick bags. That so many people were apparently terrified by it is evidence that the story-telling and mechanics were done very well. People must have really thought there was a monster on the loose in MK.

Most def., the experience left scars, but for another reason: it has become one of the most hilarious memories of my entire life. AJ does realize that GM Engineering and Chevrolet BOTH fall under the umbrella of General Motors Company (GM) right? I mean if Toyota replaced Ford, that'd be a sponsorship change but one division of GM handing off to another isn't really a change in sponsor.

    I agree that Alien Encounter was scary, but I didn't realize that guests disliked it so much that they complained until it was gone. I went to the parks when I was around 10 years old or so when Alien Encounter was still a thing and while I was scared during the ride, after it was I fine and it's honestly one of my most lasting memories of that trip. It's disappointing that they took it out because it was too scary because back then the park was rather dull for older kids and teenagers.
    Rides like Kongfrontation and Earthquake over at Universal made their park a lot more fun for older kids.

    Basically they didn't have to change the Imagination ride. They just had a horrible idea and went with it against all advice telling them that it was a horrible idea.
