    Learning how to spin turn perfectly is a surprisingly easy skill. There are a few tricky pitfalls along the way that mark the difference between doing them every time and doing them some of the time.
    In this video I've broken down the perfect way to do them, highlighted common spin turn mistakes and shown that you can do a spin turn on an adventure bike too. The technique is identical, you just need to learn to do it a little quicker.

    Have been struggling with this for a while. After watching this video, I practiced about 10 minutes and that's all it took. The biggest take away for me was letting the bike hang with a straight inside arm. So much easier now. Thanks!

    Hello LLel. Huge fan - love these. One thing that I feel you missed out though... The guy demonstrates the turns beautifully and does something that is very important to aid the turns every time - but you’ve neglected to mention! Before he drops the clutch, he turns his head to look back at where he wants the bike to go! I was told this a long time ago and it makes a big difference, rather than looking down or ahead or at the handlebars! Aside from that, keep up the good work. 👍

    I saw many great enduro training videos but your explanations are really very natural and show what a newbe may face or confusion run in mind... They are true coaching ... I dont have enduro bike but have KTM 390 adv where suspension is hard but trying ur guidance helped me a lot expecting future videos on adv bikes .... Great effort from ur end

    Excellent video, love the mini-tips! Locked down again in Oz so will either end up with a destroyed yard or plenty of black donuts on the concrete driveway and a bald back tire practising these!

    the bit about letting the inside arm “hang” the weight of the leaned over bike is on-point. in my experience, while i get my butt off the seat i do put some weight on the outside peg: it helps take some of the bike’s lean weight off your inside arm and helps push the back of the bike around (esp helpful if the trail is super narrow and you can’t lean it over very far)

    great explanation, it's a really useful skill to have but not so easy on my 640 especially with luggage.
    in the video you are wearing the acerbis enduro one jacket. would you recommend this jacket for dualsport use in combination with an armored vest?

    Notice how the video is done on mud? Loose dirt works similarly. Dry, hard, high-traction surfaces make this much harder to do well from the start. Find a wet or loamy spot to learn.

    Spin turns come in handy when you're on a heavy/clumsy bike like my KLR 650. I often explore new trails which more often than not, simply dead end from overgrowth & it's too tight to get off the bike & try to maneuver it by hand. As long as you've got enough room to spin the bike around without banging into a sapling or heavy brush, the spin turn will get you back around basically on a dime. Just start your turn with the bike on the far side of the trail from the direction you want to lean & spin, that will give you the most room to spin the bike around.

      My apprehension about learning a spin turn is dropping the leant-over bike. A heavier bike is more risk. How is this not a problem when doing spin turns?

    Thanks for the video! Any tip to do it with an adventure bike if you’re short? I’m 5ft4 and When I lean my Tenere it it’s on the verge of falling down 😅 I have no issue with regards to the height when the bike is moving though!

    Is it easier to learn starting from either direction in terms of managing clutch control especially if things start to go pear shaped?

    helps if you can flat foot it. I unfortunateley cant, can only get one foot down tippy toe. Ive still managed to teach myself to do spin turns, but its much harder. Same thing with pivot turns.

      Turn the throttle and do this the same. If you lean it over enough it will spin.
      Traction Control off also!

    What about the traction of the surface. You are doing it on slick mud. Any changes if surface is dryer or has better traction than mud?

      Great question. A little bit but not a lot. On tarmac you need more power but mostly you need to have enough lean angle.
      So even on quite grippy dirt as long as you're leaned over enough it will break traction just fine. 🙂

    I'm doing something wrong. I have no trouble holding my bike even if it's fairly lent over. The issue I have is different traction circumstances while doing the turn. It works fine and suddenly I get traction and lose it instantly again making it hard to keep the bike at the same angle. I do the whole thing fairly lent over. Maybe I need to give it more beans but also there the line between dropping it and gaining sudden traction is pretty thin for me

      So, this is really tricky to give advice on unless you upload a video for me to see.
      From the sound of it though, it sounds like not enough lean angle. Unless its really quite grippy, you need almost zero 'beans' to do this well.

      Yeah wanted to try it with my Tenere 700. But as I'm riding like 99% on road I won't try it. Could fuck up my bike too easily. lol
      Getting over the fear of damaging it I would say just let it drop in your driveway. Once it's dropped and you have a few scratches spin turns won't do much more damage if they go wrong. Also you are getting used to the feeling of your bike getting dropped. Maybe crash guards aren't a bad idea? ^^

      If you can possibly manage it, get a light cheap dual sport to make your mistakes on and build your confidence. +1 to the crash bars on the big bike too. It's all about reducing the consequences so you feel comfortable to play around.

      @@majormassenspektrometer I have crash guards and dropped the bike twice already. The levers come at risk slightly, my plastic handguards aren't so good. Otherwise bike is OK.
      I am not sure dropping at low speed is the worst scenario though. I was more worried about some kind of lower leg injury :)

    Great vid. My takeaway: there are 22 things I need to do perfectly the first time, else I'm effed. I would like a video that shows me how to learn one thing at a time. If I have to learn 22 things (a number I just made up) and get them exactly correct the first time, else I'll die ... with all due respect, not really all that helpful.

    How does it work on heavier ADV bikes? If the left arm is straight in the lean the heavy bike is going down

      Well, it's definitely harder. It works the same as we showed in the video really, but you can't spend an age trying find the clutch bite point. Move quickly and it's fine.
      Also, if you need help picking your bike up, I made a video about that. 😁

      The guy (Simon Pavey) on the bike doing the spin turn in the video taught me this at their off road school on a 1200GS. I will not lie, leaning such a heavy bike over till your arm is straight wasn't easy...Especially since I'm a little short...You can't do it for long, but then I guess the trick is, to lean it and immediately dump the clutch and get it round...You almost need to time it, just as your arm reaches that point the clutch goes so that is nearly one seamless movement. I ran out of energy and I struggled and it felt like the bike was pulling my arm off! But then it was my first time, I'm sure if I practised it at least once a month for a year or so, I'd get good...

      I am short and can usually pull it off on my 990. Best to practice on small bikes and then transition up.

      @@Angry-Lynx yeah for sure it's hard. Tall bike, heavy. You have to perfectly balance power and lean. If you check the original vid from a while ago, he shows how to do it off the bike, which is a good place to start especially for bigger bikes.

      @@BrakeMagazine 'DCT' - no clutch. So how to do it?

      @@jacokoortzen9963 The same way. DCT is still a clutch, you just control the throttle bit. If you follow all the steps with leaning the bike over, and the turn the throttle it will do the same thing.
      Please be careful with this though. On DCT you don't have a way to rescue the problem if you don't get it right. I'd caution you to try and learn it on something else first, just because it can go wrong.
