I get my glasses within an hour too, but probably depends where you go. Got them from Eyeglass World in California. Lenscrafters is usually same-day too, but not sure how quick.
Definitely they won’t bother you but I still haven’t gotten used to the stares. I get it totally because I’m a foreigner but sometimes I’d look up from my phone and the whole subway was looking at me. It made me feel weird sometimes but again I’m not offended by it! Just a weird feeling because I rarely get stared at in America
I became an introvert in Korea . I struggle to go to the grocery store even cuz Koreans stare at me and I feel like I’m an animal in a zoo . I started taking a walk at dawn or very late at night to avoid people . Yes and this feeling like living in my own world cuz nobody takes me seriously cuz I’m a foreigner.
I'd eat up a podcast-like format of you just chatting abt stuff like this, on or off camera -- especially if you ever have moments where you go off on long tangents lol
This is the content I’m engaged the most with. I’m moving to Korea in January from the south USA so I like to know the culture and mannerisms and things. I’d like to be as polite and informed as possible. I’m hella excited. 😤
I'm southern myself and stayed there for a month in Seoul. As a southerner I was SURPRISED how many Korean men held the door for me. So I will say that in at least in Seoul some of the politeness of international communities have rubbed off on the younger generation. I asked a few locals about this in Itaewon and they told me many younger people liked the politeness of southerners when they visited the states or met them and decided they would hold the door for others at times. This was back in 2019, so not sure if anything changed after the pandemic but it was a pleasant surprise for me. Of course they knew I was from the South when I spoke or I guess what I wore so maybe they went the extra mile? That good old Nuunchi she spoke about. Loved it there, so will you. Be careful there, there are many who AREN"T locals and just be careful as a young woman there in general.
I moved here earlier this year. I live in Busan and when I visit seoul and daegu I see so many differences in how people treat each other. Seoul is a lot more friendly and social, but in Busan people are quite reserved and quiet. I like that part. While Seoul is friendlier, in Busan you actually get more door holding. I never expect it, but im always shocked when it happens. I too have found myself becoming less patient, but while you can get most things by the next day, food delivery is often the same speed as the states. I will say though, when there is a delay in my order, I develop a mini attitude 😂😂😂 I'm becoming spoiled lol. Daegu is the one place I was able to successfully correct a 할아버지 for talking about me. It was hot, I was tired from a long day of teaching and then the train ride, and to top it off it was my birthday. I heard him say "오, 헤비 걸" and I yelled "야! 할아버지 그만해!" He looked shocked and said "oh sorry sorry" (I regret nothing 😂)
@@randomtiff8540 🤣🤣 He said Oh heavy girl, heavy girl. And I basically said hey grandpa knock it off! It's less in the what you say but how you say it. He stumbled over himself saying oh sorry sorry after I yelled at him 🤣
I can’t believe it’s been 12 years already! I began watching your videos back when you started in preparation for my own stay in Korea. It’s amazing to see how much you’ve evolved as a person and watching your family grow is so beautiful!
The GPS thing is real, even in America lol. I put on my GPS 90% of the time just incase there is a faster route, or a detour. WAZE is pretty good and keeping me from getting trapped or having to turn and go all the way back around.
Oh! The Piggly Wiggly! I remember that store as a kid. When my mom and her friends shopped there, they would say "We’re going down to the Pig" 🐷 Thanks for the throwback 😂
That hairstyle is so pretty. I knew about the language, but I've never heard about eating a certain way around superiors. My favorite part was the X with the arms 😂😂
I enjoy this type of content more. Your everyday life is routine. I’d like a video on how you’re teaching the twins English and your culture and do you ever make American food.
Ive been watching you for 9+ years. Kinda watched you grow up and become the awesome young woman, wife and mother. I would love for you to do reaction videos about your very early videos. You did a video about 10 years about habits you picked up and dropped. Would love to see you react to your younger self.
I love these videos where you just sit and talk. You have a very soothing voice and it's also really nice to hear about the everyday Korea that not shown in the k-dramas.
The biggest shock for me is leaving bags unattended! I’m from Southern California and myself and friends/family had so many things stolen when I was growing up, so I have hands and eyes on my purse at all times lol. Thank you for sharing! ❤
I really enjoy the talking videos! And yes, this one felt easy breezy because of the length, but it wasn't too short or too long, and I'd love to see more content like this
I definitely prefer these type of quicker videos about a particular topic. Longer videos and vlogs are nice to but i definitely like being about to watch a quick video
Left Korea some years ago and all the habits that I got from there are still embedded in me. Sometimes I don't realize it. I still lack patience and am forever in the fast fast mentality.
Traveling there versus living... thank u for video. Id pick to travel verse living. Haha. Ive worked on patience so long, the progress I have, I wanna keep and continue 🙏 :D. Altho even if a shortwhile, stayed a month in japan and i felt blown away by certain fast speed--- always appreciate these videos. Thank you
I love the long form podcast type. What is your history with how you got to Korea and your life began there? It’s so fascinating and interesting! As a half Korean who grew up in Korea and moved to Savannah Georgia lol I relate to you a lot. lol
I don’t known what it is but in Busan some Koreans were holding the door for me (even waiting a few seconds). They were young - probably picking the habit from internationals. I was shocked & also did it for others. I‘m German. I learn fast & didn’t care about Koreans not holding the door for me. I have to say Busan is an easygoing place. From day one I couldn’t stop comparing Busan with Seoul. Seoul is such a „cold“ place with too busy people. Some people were so rude towards me in Seoul! I didn’t have had such an experience in Busan. 🫶🏼
Since I’ve been here, I’ve noticed at the bus terminal they are holding doors now. Also I do the no thing and always have. 🙅🏼♀️ I realize I have a lot of Korean habits. Great video! Definitely like the podcast style ones from you too!
Navigation! I do too but only because living in the city, it shows me a few routes and the one with the least traffic choices or if there are incidences on the road. Plus, Waze will tell you if there is a police car in front ready to stop you from speeding. In Australia for example, going 1-5 km above a certain speed limit gets you a fine! So, even when I know the route, Navigation is essential!
Another thing I noticed in the video - when you were talking about flattening the rice “makes it taste more delicious”, that phrase sounded kinda non-native IMO, kinda awkward and something my Korean students would say. I feel like natives would innately say “makes it taste better”.
Keep these types of videos going! Question for you though. Do you think the Korean culture will ever get rid of the hierarchy gestures? Like the example you said when eating and drinking. Korea is evolving so much, do you think those things will die out or continue?

I don't even live in Korea and I just realized I picked the X thing but in a different way. I'm currently studying in Korea and I've only been here a month and a half but I already leave my stuff unattended. Has Mr. Moon picked up habits from living with an American?
Good question!😊
That’s what I want to know.
Would love to see a segment on that!
Ooo that's a really good question. Add follow up with is there anything that he feels that just makes sense too
So true!!
My husband went to the eye doctor, had an exam, and picked up his glasses an hour later. I WAS SHOCKED. Here, it takes them TWO WEEKS!
I love this about Korea. Every time I go, I get a new pair of eyeglasses because of how easy, fast, and insurance-free it is!
