It’s not about money, it’s TH-cam’s ability to allow/facilitate the spread of ideas and entertainment as an on-demand platform what makes it special. Anyone can be a publisher and the power is brought back to the individual (for the most part). Creating content doesn’t have to be a primary or even secondary source of income. The title of the article only holds true if you have a strictly business definition of wealth. But as society has proven over and over; wealth is so much more than dollar signs.

Pure and utter ignorance. The mainstream media is actually so petrified by TH-cam they are trying to shred the next generation of creators. I only started my TH-cam channel in late December 2017. It's my first channel and its already got 1300 subs and 1800 hours watched. This platform is amazing if you are involved and consistently creating content. Don't quit guys!
@@FiveLeefClovr my channel got partnered. I earned 10K my first year on TH-cam. I then had my 8th child and took a job trading securities. I didn't quit because the money wasn't there I quit because the time wasnt there. If I was a young person looking to pursue a passion TH-cam is still a money maker.
I didn't monetize till I hit 8k subs . Never knew you could make a dime back in 2010/11 . Sometimes I miss those days . Content on the platform was more labor of love style and passion projects . Now you gotta search hard for it

Adamthewoo I agree with you. When you begin a TH-cam you shouldn't do for the money you should it cause you like it. MOST youtubers who have a large following didn't do it for the money but they did cause they wanted to . They had passion but now people are starting TH-cam for money .

Reason is you don’t upload often. A video every month or so won’t get you what you want. Upload at least once a week, add tags to your videos, or do something that nobody has done yet.

Regarding subs, as since January I've uploaded 96 videos and have 60 subs but I enjoy the entire process of filming, editing etc etc so will continue making content. Keep on keeping on peeps!🙂

These are the things I get told as an 8th grade filmmaker. People give me looks when I tell them that I am on TH-cam. And I start to doubt myself and question the relevance of my work because of it. But I don't want to be a TH-camr. I want to be DP or director or something along those lines. I USE TH-cam as a creative outlet, not a career path. Just because I create on this platform doesn't mean I want to be some star or what ever. Not at all... Sorry if that made no sense.
Im going to put this straight to you; Fuck em. As a twenty two year old "adult" I envy your drive and dedication to do want, when I was in eighth grade I was making fart jokes and having a jaded outlook on how easily success would happen like it does in movies. Your work is great you seriously do have a knack for this line of work; my only critique is to work on your off hand shooting. What worked for me when I was doing athletic photography in high school was to apply some basic concepts I learned from videos of off hand marksmanship such as steady breathing and bracing your arms on your torso. Keep up the hard work and I hope to see more work from you.

The problem with the new TH-cam policy is it kills hope. I remember when I first uploaded a couple videos to see how it goes and was motivated to improve by the tiny amounts of money I was being paid. Now, small, new creators may have to work everyday for an entire year to hit that watch time mark, or be forced to just put out tons of shit content in order to hit this arbitrary 4k hours mark. Rather than getting creators to focus on getting better it forces them to create more shit content to get watch time. Not to mention a year of work that goes unpaid. Only people like your friend, Peter, who was already a professional can make it. He already knows exactly what to do. Most people starting out have no idea and have to learn, try, get better, and their efforts are for literally nothing. This doesn't even factor in covering any costs involved in starting a channel. It is just really hard to stay motivated to improve when you get no results. The worst is even if you hit the 4k hours mark you now have to deal with TH-cam constantly flagging your videos and stealing your money until they "sort it out". They never paid you during the last policy until you hit $100, so it is not like they were losing money on small creators before, either. This new policy just seems like a huge scam.
Team Shmo sadly, monetization isn’t supposed to help small youtubers in 2018, it’s supposed to benefit the bigger youtubers with consistently viewed/largely viewed traffic. The cutting of monetization for the smaller youtubers benefits larger youtubers by increasing search relevance/recommendation and amount earned x100 views.
Team Shmo I personally think making videos should be fun in the first place. Money comes later and is not as important. I started writing my own music about 5 years ago and have never made a single penny. I see it as a way to express myself, not to make money from. While it would be great to make a living of my greatest passion, it's not the money that I do it for. The opportunity to make that money has not been taken away from you either. But I do agree with you on your point about not getting that extra motivation you get from your first small payments.
My feeling is that the major advertisers asked for this, so that their ad dollars get spent on the videos that offer the greatest chance of greater viewership.
PVRE BLUE. 99% of businesses start by fun. People never expect to make it a job that pays but as they get better they realize they could actually make a career out of it. This has happened to me and most business owners I know. However, it always starts with earning a little money. The 4k hours is a lot. Working hard for pennies at least shows people it's possible the can make money from their craft. Working hard and earning nothing is the ultimate dream killer. I understand about doing things for fun, but life is expensive. The fun has to be paid for somehow and I'd really not like spending an extra 20hrs a week on something that costs me money and I'll never earn a dime from. That's why most people work all week and only do something they enjoy for a couple hours on the weekend. It's all they can afford to do. TH-cam was great because not only could you do fun things on the weekend, but you got paid to do it. This made you want to do more of it and the harder you worked the more you earned. Not anymore, however.

I haven’t made a single dollar from my videos, and don’t plan to anytime soon. But making videos is so damn fun and interacting with the fans is unreal. I’ll do this until the day it dies, no matter if I make a penny or not.
SAY IT LOUDER FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK! 🙌 We never set out on TH-cam to make money. It was primarily the best way to document the beginning of our life together as a young married couple (we're a vlogging military family). We have these wild and beautiful memories that act as a digital scrapbook of the highs and lows of this crazy journey called life, and we wouldn't trade it for the world. Being a youtuber is about passion. It's the BEST creative outlet I've found, and I love every piece of filming, editing, and interacting with people all across the globe. What a beautiful age we live in where we can connect with virtually anyone, anywhere. That's AMAZING! And whenever articles like these come out, it just kind of feels like the authors and publications miss the mark. Most of us (at least, the good eggs, I'd bet) aren't here to make a quick buck. It's way, way more difficult than that. We're here to document our own individual journeys, release some creative energy, and to make friendships worldwide. That's the beauty of youtube.

Money is a bit of an incentive though. I spend nearly 100+ hours on some of my videos patiently making them, and as a consequence can only upload once a month. If I actually got paid, I'd have the opportunity to pour everything into my passion. Money definitely isn't everything, but it's still something that brings sustainability - and if you can thrive and get that on this platform then good for you.
I haven't hit a subscribe button on TH-cam in a couple years, if I were to guess. I prefer to just roam around and find new unique videos, and manually search up channels that I watch regularly. However, your videos were good enough to make me subscribe. I hope you are able to grow, as it is instantly easy to see how much effort goes into each video! Best of luck.
I love his message, he’s so positive. While that guy whose writing the article is looking on the numbers side of TH-cam, he isn’t looking at the passion of all the new creators. You can do both, have your day job and your passion, and who knows maybe that passion will get you somewhere if you work hard enough. Never give up hope if that what you want.
Got removed from the YPP and I don't mind it one bit. It's all about creating films and vlogs for me and what is $2 p/m gonna help me with that? Yes, I was demotivated initially, but then it motivated me more than ever to prove TH-cam wrong. Keep on creating everyone!

I only have 150 subscribers at this point, but my videos have gotten me more clients, and they are starting to spread my influence in my local city and online as a trusted source for guitar lessons. So the benefits to me have been immediate.
Great video. I've been lucky enough to have some success on this platform, and have tried to reinvest all of the money I have made back into the platform-buying new microphones, books, movies, etc. all things I need to find success. Thank you for making a video like this, TH-cam is about so much more than a career, it's a place for creative people to be creative.

I do it because I have a passion for vlogging and creating interesting and fun videos. I think it's important to remember that TH-cam isn't 'paying' anyone. It is a platform that facilitates a relationship between advertisers and creators. It's essentially a middle-man. Nobody 'deserves' to get paid simply for creating content, just as a painter doesn't get paid for creating paintings. Someone has to 'buy' your product. If you want to make money from creating videos, go and work in advertising, film or television. If you're doing it because you love it, upload them to TH-cam and (if you're lucky) you might get paid for it. But never EXPECT to get paid - there are millions of others doing exactly the same thing as you.
Casey thank you so much. I read that article yesterday and felt so mad at it, but they are writing from a specific angle. I am a new mom to twins and have started to stay at home to raise them. I sacrificed my career but at night when the babies are asleep I am making kids music and animations and just started this channel. Of course I hope to gain subscribers and to eventually make a little income off it but the joy is really in creating the content and connecting with the community.
I wouldn't recommend most people do youtube either, to be honest. if you are creating because you love it, then it's a great thing to spend your free time on, but the way most people are raised to look at careers and jobs doesn't set you up to do well on youtube. if you're doing YT for the right reasons then it shouldn't matter if you make money, because you'll be happy just doing it in your free time for nothing. it's the people who see this as a career, and not as a creative outlet with a lot of potential, who will be the ones to stop creating when things get hard and who will fall into that 96.5%. I don't think most people here actually want to make something, I think they want to make money.
It's true. Casey claims people just want to create. Then why does anyone care about the Monetization issue. If people truly just love doing it why are they're so many angry people?
To be fair, most start TH-cam because they love to create. It's when they start earning from monetizing their videos do they shift from passion to turning it into a full-time career. No TH-camr will complain of the monetization issues if all they really are after is creating. Right now the majority that want to pursue a TH-cam career are mostly in for the money.
Totally agree Mike, if you are getting into YT to cash in then I hope you fail miserably. If you have content that the world needs to see then throw it out there and let the world decide.....YT needs to get back to the roots, content creators sharing.... NOT scammers, NOT plagiarism, NOT clip monkeys!!

Anyone can make it on TH-cam as long as they put the work and dedication in. The people who are doing it for money will just give up and the people doing it out of passion will keep at it
I think people get a false sense of success on TH-cam when stories like Peter earning over a million in just a year are the ones that are shared as examples. People begin to think that’s normal and that if they’ve been on TH-cam for years and still don’t have 1k then they feel like a failure, when they shouldn’t!
I absolutely needed this! I had barely begun my journey, got jaded, stopped, reflected, and I am returning this week. It's so easy to feel like what you do is pointless when no one is out there listening...but if everyone fell victim to that philosophy...we'd have nothing. Nothing.
I have been making youtube for a year now (actually more, but 1 year with this channel), and still got 190 subs. Honestly I don't care about money, or subs. I love making videos, just the process of seeing an idea coming to life is amazing. I'll keep making videos no matter what, even if there'll always will be 1 person watching.
I am 1 of those people! Never before had I ever video edited! Nor really tried to take a good picture! I'm far from extreme awesomeness but I'm extremely proud of far I've come all by myself on my own! No body taught me a thing (I could probably use a mentor) but I'm still proud of myself! And that makes me feel happy! Also I get to go back and look at my memories :-) do it if you want to, if it makes you feel joy or good about yourself, fucking do it!!
I've been doing YT for only a month, and have already hit 1.2k subscribers, and 40k views on one of my uploads! I could care less about the money and if I "make it" or not; I'm in this because I LOVE doing yet. Thanks for shedding some light Casey!
How did you get those subs so fast!? I've been on YT for years and just hit 430 yesterday.... To be honest, I never asked for people to sub to me until the New Year because I don't like doing that. But YT gave me no choice...
Down the Wrabbit Hole Travel I haven’t asked for one sub, other than promoting my channel on my Instagram! I made one highly searchable video (which is actually one of my worst on my profile cause it was the second one I ever made 😂), and its racked up 45k views in 5 weeks. It all comes down to 1) quality content on a consistent basis (I upload every Sunday at 9am CST) 2) highly searchable titles with good thumbnails 3) efficient tagging Hope this helps! That’s how I’ve done it

I got removed from the YPP because I was below at the time of the announcement. I was above prior to the deadline but yet I'm still removed. Bottom line is keep making content because you want to and not just because you're in the YPP. Be passionate and be creative!

I think if you work hard, and keep working harder and you work at making content and every day work at making that content just a little bit better, then you will be successful! I used to spend half my life chasing networks. Now with TH-cam, I've swapped that time for time to create. As a result 100 times more people see my work than when I was on TV only.
"Do what you can't" - Casey I know it may be hard, and I'm not going to say that I'm, "determined to do it" and all that cheesy crap, but I don't think you should give up on it just because it's not realistic. For me, I just like making videos. Maybe it will help me in my future job or something. I don't want to be a TH-camr, but if it ever happens, than so be it. I don't think, "being a TH-camr" for a job ever happens on purpose. It should come naturally

If you are good, people will find you. If you suck, people will still find you. The difference is the good audience will stick with you while the bad audience, you have to keep feeding their stupidity to have them stick with you.
Yeah but the problem is, many youtubers have lost money they were getting because of big youtubers behaviour. I wasn't making a living but it helped as my channel grew. To this day I still get the same amount of views and subs but now no money. Kinda kills the enthusiasm.
I only started youtube so I can store all the wonderful memories onto the internet and look about the good times. Though I do love to share my story and adventure to the world too. I'm never going to stop making videos.

Ki Rin doctors, lawyers, nurses, construction workers etc. To be fair TH-cam doesn’t really contribute anything. It’s just a form of entertainment. How many entertainers do we really need in this world.
What about movie directors, actors, technicians, dancers, artists, singers, etc? Aren't they all "just entertainers"? And what about all the people on youtube making educational content? I'm not saying that everyone should be a youtuber, but how much value there is to it, is a direct result of the content people make for it.
Ki Rin all these people who make educational content have an education. And last time I checked you don’t get a doctors degree, engineer degree ect, on TH-cam. Also is saving a life, building a building or care etc, defending a person in court, the same as posting about your opinion about a theory, or a short clip on how to do your makeup, or telling jokes the same thing. It is not same thing.

My channel grew 50 subs this month because at the start of the year I made the decision I want to achieve this, hopefully it will continue to grow and this vlog has just lit the fire that makes me wanna get the next video made!
As a TH-camr of 12 years - I STILL got demonetized. Despite many many thousands of hours, of pouring my heart & soul into creating content. People that go to TH-cam for the money, are doing it for the wrong reasons. Yes Casey; it's good to think that TH-cam does value us 'small guys', but on THIS side of Reality, how they have DONE IT, makes us FEEL devalued! - intentional or otherwise...
I currently have 92 subscribers and I know I made that happen through my passion of creating the videos I make. I do it so that when I am older I can look back and my children can look back at an archive of footage.

This is exactly what I needed today. Every time I post my weekly video I’m super discouraged the next day when I see the views and realize how far I have to go. Then I remember why I’m doing it and this video helped remind me of that. I do it because I love it and there is nothing else I would rather be doing. Getting that notification that someone completely random commented and enjoyed my content, even if it’s one person, it’s a really awesome feeling. Do it first out of passion though, without that it is a lost cause! Happy creating y’all
Well said. One of my few subscribers commented on a recent video - and yeah, it meant the world to me! More than the few dollars I may have earn on the actual video. Mine was one of the majority of channels that was "demonetized" this month. I spend dozens of late-night hours on my latest post, trying to learn how to do this certain masking/tracking/color change technique. Totally worth it! It looks like crap, but just being able to copy the effect of a certain movie was AWESOME and rewarding for me. For one of my subs to comment???? Icing on the cake. It's never about the money...

Respect. My channel was slow at the beginning but it is now growing exponentially and it feels greaaaaat. You should all try it, keep at it, the hard work pays off. Just a few tips don't pretend to be someone or something you not. Respect the viewers mentality and be honest. If you are a nerd then be a nerd, if you shy then be shy but don't pretend to be someone you are not. Also, the most important thing be positive, noone wants to watch a negative video. Being passionate about what you love to do and sharing it with the world is what I love about TH-cam sure i may only have 74 subs and what ever but that does not define my passion as a creator. I will continue to share my experiences I will continue to try to help others that are looking for guidance, help, advice or just plain out enjoy the things i do on the channel. Money? well there is no need for me to lie. It sure can be helpful to the channel. but I didn't come on TH-cam for the Money Im on here to just share my passion with the world. anything after that is a bonus, but frankly it just my love for what I do. Read this article when it came out. Totally agree Casey. I make videos because I like home brewing and meeting other brewers, not because I’m looking to make money. This is the motivation.
It's horrible how TH-cam treats newer TH-camrs and even some channels who have been on TH-cam for many years, It just feels like they are picking and choosing who's able to have success on TH-cam now. So basically you either gotta have a lot of money and pay your way up the scale or get very lucky somehow or have some sort of famous TH-camr friend shout you out lol It's very discouraging for a lot of ppl and I'm not a TH-camr and that's not my dream but I know it is for certain ppl and I think it's very hard being told those things no matter what your dream is.
I already have 800 subscribers, it has cost me 3 and a half years. Now, without monetizing without being able to personalize the miniatures, without network, without benefit of anything, and here I continue. And I do not want to stop because I've been on TH-cam for 9 years, and I always uploaded video without all these things. But money cheers, helps, little, but motivates to continue and improve more. It's so difficult to grow up... :(

I didn't quit because the money wasn't there I quit because the time wasnt there. If I was a young person looking to pursue a passion TH-cam is still a money maker.

I didn't monetize till I hit 8k subs . Never knew you could make a dime back in 2010/11 . Sometimes I miss those days . Content on the platform was more labor of love style and passion projects . Now you gotta search hard for it

These are the things I get told as an 8th grade filmmaker. People give me looks when I tell them that I am on TH-cam. And I start to doubt myself and question the relevance of my work because of it.
But I don't want to be a TH-camr. I want to be DP or director or something along those lines. I USE TH-cam as a creative outlet, not a career path. Just because I create on this platform doesn't mean I want to be some star or what ever. Not at all...

Im going to put this straight to you; Fuck em. As a twenty two year old "adult" I envy your drive and dedication to do want, when I was in eighth grade I was making fart jokes and having a jaded outlook on how easily success would happen like it does in movies. Your work is great you seriously do have a knack for this line of work; my only critique is to work on your off hand shooting. What worked for me when I was doing athletic photography in high school was to apply some basic concepts I learned from videos of off hand marksmanship such as steady breathing and bracing your arms on your torso. Keep up the hard work and I hope to see more work from you.

The problem with the new TH-cam policy is it kills hope. I remember when I first uploaded a couple videos to see how it goes and was motivated to improve by the tiny amounts of money I was being paid. Now, small, new creators may have to work everyday for an entire year to hit that watch time mark, or be forced to just put out tons of shit content in order to hit this arbitrary 4k hours mark. Rather than getting creators to focus on getting better it forces them to create more shit content to get watch time. Not to mention a year of work that goes unpaid. Only people like your friend, Peter, who was already a professional can make it. He already knows exactly what to do. Most people starting out have no idea and have to learn, try, get better, and their efforts are for literally nothing. This doesn't even factor in covering any costs involved in starting a channel. It is just really hard to stay motivated to improve when you get no results. The worst is even if you hit the 4k hours mark you now have to deal with TH-cam constantly flagging your videos and stealing your money until they "sort it out". They never paid you during the last policy until you hit $100, so it is not like they were losing money on small creators before, either. This new policy just seems like a huge scam.
Team Shmo sadly, monetization isn’t supposed to help small youtubers in 2018, it’s supposed to benefit the bigger youtubers with consistently viewed/largely viewed traffic. The cutting of monetization for the smaller youtubers benefits larger youtubers by increasing search relevance/recommendation and amount earned x100 views.
Team Shmo I personally think making videos should be fun in the first place. Money comes later and is not as important. I started writing my own music about 5 years ago and have never made a single penny. I see it as a way to express myself, not to make money from. While it would be great to make a living of my greatest passion, it's not the money that I do it for. The opportunity to make that money has not been taken away from you either. But I do agree with you on your point about not getting that extra motivation you get from your first small payments.
My feeling is that the major advertisers asked for this, so that their ad dollars get spent on the videos that offer the greatest chance of greater viewership.
PVRE BLUE. 99% of businesses start by fun. People never expect to make it a job that pays but as they get better they realize they could actually make a career out of it. This has happened to me and most business owners I know. However, it always starts with earning a little money. The 4k hours is a lot. Working hard for pennies at least shows people it's possible the can make money from their craft. Working hard and earning nothing is the ultimate dream killer. I understand about doing things for fun, but life is expensive. The fun has to be paid for somehow and I'd really not like spending an extra 20hrs a week on something that costs me money and I'll never earn a dime from. That's why most people work all week and only do something they enjoy for a couple hours on the weekend. It's all they can afford to do. TH-cam was great because not only could you do fun things on the weekend, but you got paid to do it. This made you want to do more of it and the harder you worked the more you earned. Not anymore, however.

It was primarily the best way to document the beginning of our life together as a young married couple (we're a vlogging military family). We have these wild and beautiful memories that act as a digital scrapbook of the highs and lows of this crazy journey called life, and we wouldn't trade it for the world. Being a youtuber is about passion. It's the BEST creative outlet I've found, and I love every piece of filming, editing, and interacting with people all across the globe. What a beautiful age we live in where we can connect with virtually anyone, anywhere. That's AMAZING! And whenever articles like these come out, it just kind of feels like the authors and publications miss the mark. Most of us (at least, the good eggs, I'd bet) aren't here to make a quick buck. It's way, way more difficult than that. We're here to document our own individual journeys, release some creative energy, and to make friendships worldwide. That's the beauty of youtube.

Money is a bit of an incentive though. I spend nearly 100+ hours on some of my videos patiently making them, and as a consequence can only upload once a month. If I actually got paid, I'd have the opportunity to pour everything into my passion. Money definitely isn't everything, but it's still something that brings sustainability - and if you can thrive and get that on this platform then good for you.

I haven't hit a subscribe button on TH-cam in a couple years, if I were to guess. I prefer to just roam around and find new unique videos, and manually search up channels that I watch regularly. I think it's important to remember that TH-cam isn't 'paying' anyone. It is a platform that facilitates a relationship between advertisers and creators. It's essentially a middle-man. Nobody 'deserves' to get paid simply for creating content, just as a painter doesn't get paid for creating paintings. Someone has to 'buy' your product. If you want to make money from creating videos, go and work in advertising, film or television. If you're doing it because you love it, upload them to TH-cam and (if you're lucky) you might get paid for it. But never EXPECT to get paid - there are millions of others doing exactly the same thing as you.

Casey thank you so much. I read that article yesterday and felt so mad at it, but they are writing from a specific angle. I am a new mom to twins and have started to stay at home to raise them. I sacrificed my career but at night when the babies are asleep I am making kids music and animations and just started this channel. Of course I hope to gain subscribers and to eventually make a little income off it but the joy is really in creating the content and connecting with the community.
I wouldn't recommend most people do youtube either, to be honest. if you are creating because you love it, then it's a great thing to spend your free time on, but the way most people are raised to look at careers and jobs doesn't set you up to do well on youtube.
if you're doing YT for the right reasons then it shouldn't matter if you make money, because you'll be happy just doing it in your free time for nothing. it's the people who see this as a career, and not as a creative outlet with a lot of potential, who will be the ones to stop creating when things get hard and who will fall into that 96.5%.

To be fair, most start TH-cam because they love to create. It's when they start earning from monetizing their videos do they shift from passion to turning it into a full-time career. I think people get a false sense of success on TH-cam when stories like Peter earning over a million in just a year are the ones that are shared as examples. People begin to think that’s normal and that if they’ve been on TH-cam for years and still don’t have 1k then they feel like a failure, when they shouldn’t!

I have been making youtube for a year now (actually more, but 1 year with this channel), and still got 190 subs. Honestly I don't care about money, or subs. I love making videos, just the process of seeing an idea coming to life is amazing. I'll keep making videos no matter what, even if there'll always will be 1 person watching.

I'm far from extreme awesomeness but I'm extremely proud of far I've come all by myself on my own! No body taught me a thing (I could probably use a mentor) but I'm still proud of myself! Down the Wrabbit Hole Travel I haven’t asked for one sub, other than promoting my channel on my Instagram! I made one highly searchable video (which is actually one of my worst on my profile cause it was the second one I ever made 😂), and its racked up 45k views in 5 weeks. It all comes down to
1) quality content on a consistent basis (I upload every Sunday at 9am CST)
2) highly searchable titles with good thumbnails
3) efficient tagging

I got removed from the YPP because I was below at the time of the announcement. I was above prior to the deadline but yet I'm still removed. Bottom line is keep making content because you want to and not just because you're in the YPP. Be passionate and be creative!

Casey, I agree with everything said. I started out with 0 subscribers and in a couple months I was up to 2k. It was not about the money but about doing something I love and sharing it with others. Stay motivated
I used to spend half my life chasing networks. Now with TH-cam, I've swapped that time for time to create. As a result 100 times more people see my work than when I was on TV only.
TH-camrs express themselves through the creativity of videos posted on TH-cam for fun and not just to earned the big bucks.

I know it may be hard, and I'm not going to say that I'm, "determined to do it" and all that cheesy crap, but I don't think you should give up on it just because it's not realistic. For me, I just like making videos. Maybe it will help me in my future job or something. I don't want to be a TH-camr, but if it ever happens, than so be it. I don't think, "being a TH-camr" for a job ever happens on purpose. It should come naturally

thank you casey, im myself is a small channel. and although its unmotivating not receiving the recognition you feel you deserve. it is motivating to know people like you encourage me and my fellow "below 1000 youtubers" to keep pushing and dont stop creating.

Yeah but the problem is, many youtubers have lost money they were getting because of big youtubers behaviour. I wasn't making a living but it helped as my channel grew. To this day I still get the same amount of views and subs but now no money. Kinda kills the enthusiasm.
I only started youtube so I can store all the wonderful memories onto the internet and look about the good times. Though I do love to share my story and adventure to the world too. I'm never going to stop making videos.

What's a real job?
Ki Rin doctors, lawyers, nurses, construction workers etc. To be fair TH-cam doesn’t really contribute anything. It’s just a form of entertainment. How many entertainers do we really need in this world.
What about movie directors, actors, technicians, dancers, artists, singers, etc? Aren't they all "just entertainers"? And what about all the people on youtube making educational content?
I'm not saying that everyone should be a youtuber, but how much value there is to it, is a direct result of the content people make for it.
Ki Rin all these people who make educational content have an education. And last time I checked you don’t get a doctors degree, engineer degree ect, on TH-cam. Also is saving a life, building a building or care etc, defending a person in court, the same as posting about your opinion about a theory, or a short clip on how to do your makeup, or telling jokes the same thing. It is not same thing.

This gave me so much motivation I got goosebumps from the montage and Yoda at the end, Casey you are the Yoda of youtube, thanks for the inspiration. My channel grew 50 subs this month because at the start of the year I made the decision I want to achieve this, hopefully it will continue to grow and this vlog has just lit the fire that makes me wanna get the next video made!
As a TH-camr of 12 years - I STILL got demonetized. Despite many many thousands of hours, of pouring my heart & soul into creating content. People that go to TH-cam for the money, are doing it for the wrong reasons. Yes Casey; it's good to think that TH-cam does value us 'small guys', but on THIS side of Reality, how they have DONE IT, makes us FEEL devalued! - intentional or otherwise...

This is exactly what I needed today. Every time I post my weekly video I’m super discouraged the next day when I see the views and realize how far I have to go. Then I remember why I’m doing it and this video helped remind me of that. I do it because I love it and there is nothing else I would rather be doing. Getting that notification that someone completely random commented and enjoyed my content, even if it’s one person, it’s a really awesome feeling. Do it first out of passion though, without that it is a lost cause! Happy creating y’all
Well said. One of my few subscribers commented on a recent video - and yeah, it meant the world to me! More than the few dollars I may have earn on the actual video. Mine was one of the majority of channels that was "demonetized" this month. I spend dozens of late-night hours on my latest post, trying to learn how to do this certain masking/tracking/color change technique. Totally worth it! It looks like crap, but just being able to copy the effect of a certain movie was AWESOME and rewarding for me. For one of my subs to comment???? Icing on the cake. It's never about the money...

Respect. My channel was slow at the beginning but it is now growing exponentially and it feels greaaaaat. You should all try it, keep at it, the hard work pays off. Just a few tips don't pretend to be someone or something you not. Respect the viewers mentality and be honest. If you are a nerd then be a nerd, if you shy then be shy but don't pretend to be someone you are not. Also, the most important thing be positive, noone wants to watch a negative video. Have a purpose and good luck. 32k as I wrote this March 2018.

Money? well there is no need for me to lie. It sure can be helpful to the channel. but I didn't come on TH-cam for the Money Im on here to just share my passion with the world. anything after that is a bonus, but frankly it just my love for what I do. Read this article when it came out. Totally agree Casey. I make videos because I like home brewing and meeting other brewers, not because I’m looking to make money. This is the motivation.

It's horrible how TH-cam treats newer TH-camrs and even some channels who have been on TH-cam for many years, It just feels like they are picking and choosing who's able to have success on TH-cam now. So basically you either gotta have a lot of money and pay your way up the scale or get very lucky somehow or have some sort of famous TH-camr friend shout you out lol
It's very discouraging for a lot of ppl and I'm not a TH-camr and that's not my dream but I know it is for certain ppl and I think it's very hard being told those things no matter what your dream is.
I already have 800 subscribers, it has cost me 3 and a half years. Now, without monetizing without being able to personalize the miniatures, without network, without benefit of anything, and here I continue. And I do not want to stop because I've been on TH-cam for 9 years, and I always uploaded video without all these things. But money cheers, helps, little, but motivates to continue and improve more. It's so difficult to grow up... :(
