Facts no one is talking about: 1. Smoking is the leading cause of deadly fires. 2. More people in California smoke marijuana than in any other state. 3. Practically every time I hike in the Hollywood hills I see someone smoking a joint, despite the NO SMOKING signs. Then they pitch it on the ground when they're done. 4. We know the Palisades fire started in an open area where hikers sometimes go, where there were no power lines or any other obvious way for a fire to ignite. But if you point out these facts, you're "uncool."

Not saying she or the city manager are perfect but Man built these 6000 to 16,000 sq foot undefendable homes in fire box canyons and hillsides. I feel this will be the same as the "Maui" fires. For the few houses that made it thru the fire, it will be too toxic for those to return home. Also it will take years to clean up all the toxins from the ground, before they can rebuild. It will probably take years to re-build. This should have never happened, there should have been water to put out the fires. Even if this area always has a shortage of water, something should have been in place to have some water available esp in fire seaon. This is such a horrifice loss and what a scary experience for everyone involved. I feel bad for all the animals that went thru this fire also. I hope more is invested into safety of people in California, and less to increasing the military might of a foreign country. ♥️ all the way from Kuala Lumpur Malaysia.
In 2018 the Paradise, California Camp Fire killed 85 people and destroyed thousands of homes. Shortly thereafter, the ‘This Old House’ program on PBS dedicated a brief season to that community as the show helped rebuild one of the local residents’ homes. In one of the episodes of that short season, the show’s hosts carefully explained many simple steps that homeowners can take to dramatically reduce the likelihood of their homes being destroyed by a flash fire. Their advice included such things as closing in the eaves of the house so that sparks can’t get into the attic, installing fire resistant window glass and fire-retardant roof shingles, as well as not having wood structures or piles of firewood stored near the house, nor bushes grown against the house. Aerial footage of the Paradise, California community in the aftermath showed acres of homes destroyed, yet well-protected homes right in the middle of the fire’s path remained intact. When I now look at some of the aerial footage of the communities devastated by this week’s fires in California, I can’t help but notice how many neighborhood trees survived while the surrounding homes were destroyed. Apparently, even the trees can resist fire better than the matchstick homes that were built in those neighborhoods. The bottom line is that nothing was learned from the Camp Fire tragedy. I have great sympathy for those who died, were injured, or who lost loved ones. However, to paraphrase an old adage: “You can lead Californians to water, but you can’t make them think!”
A dose of reality.Live in wilderness edges pay high prices. You have to pay the piper sometimes for your decision to live in drought stricken heavily brushed and forested environments.Fire is natures way of reinvigorating its ecosystem. It has no idea that half a million people and their homes are clustered together on the land.Permanent dwellings are actually only temporary dwellings in these places.Everyones living on borrowed time you just don't want to acknowledge it.

Facts no one is talking about:
Sorry, no one listens to facts in Cali. The left cult is real.
Well then it really wasn't the smoking then was it, it was the littering. People still smoke regular cigarettes too, just in case everyone forgot. Cali literally refused water because of environmentalists saving a fish, but yet you want to blame stoners. SMH. The legalization of pot is one of the few cultural laws they've pushed for that actually make sense. Saving that fish, not so much. Keeping better firefighters off of the force, and hiring DEI hires, not so much. What happened to the individual running around with a flame thrower in this inferno. That story disappeared real quick. Global warming is a good cover up for having your resources underfunded. Should have used sanctuary money to be prepared. The elected officials in cities like Los Angeles and New York are pathetic.
So who are you blaming for the fires, an arson, the wind, the politicians?
@lostwanderer6649 unpreparedness Arson. Fires broke out in to many areas. Resivores not on line fire department underfunded. No water in certain areas. And homeless people running around neighborhoods they don't even live in with flame throwers.
@jossphcohen724 So predict before crime happens, make sure fires can only happen in domestic areas, construct self repairing reservoirs, and make sure not take 2% of firefighting budget into paramedic training and recruitment. Got it, you want them to predict the future, build whats not invented yet and to make sure other firefighting efforts are only for fire fighting and not medical or search and rescue. Do you want them to create water out of air while we're making the list?
@lostwanderer6649 southern California doesn't even know who and how many undocumented individuals they have running around. Thank God I don't live out there. Their funds are poorly allocated. California's economy alone is larger than many nations they have the money. That sanctuary money could have minimized some of this.

Agreed. It's how God typically punishes. He simply lets you suffer the consequences of your stupid philosophies and choices. He pulls the hedge of protection and lets you be you.
I really feel like the fire would not have been so bad if they had more water available, etc. Things need to change there, they need to put in protocols to make sure this does not happen like this again. @@dltn42are these fires near main city or very outer part of city?
