CBS Sunday, if anyone reads this… We Los Angelenos are so much more than the celebrities that live here. Yes, we feel for them too, but PLEASE FOCUS MORE ON REGULAR PEOPLE who don’t have second homes to go to. The Eaton and Hurst fire victims deserve so much more coverage and the bulk of donations.

Why! You guys had no water in your hydrants . You Californians are the problem. You are already whining about tax dollars when you will take nothing to stop the fires next year. Don't worry we'll save you again and again.

Thanks for pointing this out. I live in Florida and for the first few days all I heard about was these “stars” in Hollyweird and how their homes and vacation homes were destroyed. It’s disgusting all the focus was on them. I kept saying what about the other people and business owners? What about all the innocent animals? Now other areas are being burned down and “crickets”. 🥲

Troll. Nature needs the fire cycle and we haven't managed brush well at all. But this may be arson, nothing natural. To bring the thought of "condemning" the fire is just dumb, nature doesn't use intention like that. You are applying human idiocy to nature. Now if it is arson THAT is human idiocy, but not nature's fault

It is simply too hard to extinguish these 6000 to 16,000 sq ft homes. California is over built. It only makes sense that putting out these mansions takes 5 times more water, fire equipment, fire fighters and retardant. It is hard enough to extinguish 3000 sq ft homes more manageable homes. This started in the 1960s and it has expanded to lands that should not have been inhabited. The rebuild must be smaller and smarter.

Actually it's land management. For decades 5 to 7 decades you couldn't even cut brush back even a little without getting into trouble. When I first came out in 1984 to South Lake Tahoe I thought wow I could be a millionaire just by raking up pine needles and picking up fallen limbs. I got into trouble with a warning not to touch anything just to leave it there. Fast forward to 2021 and fires like Caldor, Tamarack, Dixie and of course today. Used to be I didn't know a single fire evacuee not I've met 3 time evacuees. I'm a 2 time myself. In Northern NV they are being pro active in regards to cleaning properties up.

    2. More people in California smoke marijuana than in any other state.
    3. Practically every time I hike in the Hollywood hills I see someone smoking a joint, despite the NO SMOKING signs. Then they pitch it on the ground when they're done.
    4. We know the Palisades fire started in an open area where hikers sometimes go, where there were no power lines or any other obvious way for a fire to ignite.

The legalization of pot is one of the few cultural laws they've pushed for that actually make sense. Saving that fish, not so much. Keeping better firefighters off of the force, and hiring DEI hires, not so much. Got it, you want them to predict the future, build whats not invented yet and to make sure other firefighting efforts are only for fire fighting and not medical or search and rescue. Do you want them to create water out of air while we're making the list?

I feel this will be the same as the "Maui" fires. For the few houses that made it thru the fire, it will be too toxic for those to return home. Also it will take years to clean up all the toxins from the ground, before they can rebuild. It will probably take years to re-build. This should have never happened, there should have been water to put out the fires. Even if this area always has a shortage of water, something should have been in place to have some water available esp in fire seaon. This is such a horrifice loss and what a scary experience for everyone involved. I feel bad for all the animals that went thru this fire also. I really feel like the fire would not have been so bad if they had more water available, etc. Things need to change there, they need to put in protocols to make sure this does not happen like this again. Prayers to everyone in CA. I can't imagine having to go thru this. What a horrible experience for everyone involved.

In 2018 the Paradise, California Camp Fire killed 85 people and destroyed thousands of homes. Shortly thereafter, the ‘This Old House’ program on PBS dedicated a brief season to that community as the show helped rebuild one of the local residents’ homes. In one of the episodes of that short season, the show’s hosts carefully explained many simple steps that homeowners can take to dramatically reduce the likelihood of their homes being destroyed by a flash fire. Their advice included such things as closing in the eaves of the house so that sparks can’t get into the attic, installing fire resistant window glass and fire-retardant roof shingles, as well as not having wood structures or piles of firewood stored near the house, nor bushes grown against the house. Aerial footage of the Paradise, California community in the aftermath showed acres of homes destroyed, yet well-protected homes right in the middle of the fire’s path remained intact.
When I now look at some of the aerial footage of the communities devastated by this week’s fires in California, I can’t help but notice how many neighborhood trees survived while the surrounding homes were destroyed. Apparently, even the trees can resist fire better than the matchstick homes that were built in those neighborhoods. The bottom line is that nothing was learned from the Camp Fire tragedy. I have great sympathy for those who died, were injured, or who lost loved ones. However, to paraphrase an old adage: “You can lead Californians to water, but you can’t make them think!”
