I owned a 16th Century Hotel in Dorset England which was standing during the Monmouth Rebellion. I had a couple staying and next morning the Husband and Wife were really upset and told me they were both woken by a sailor dressed in the period costume. He just stood there and stared at them angrily. They were both awake at the same time and both saw him. Needless to say, they didn't stay for the rest of their holiday. I sold the place sometime later and the current owner also reported he had a similar experience in the same room as the couple. Across the road is the church where underground tunnels were constructed for the smugglers and they ran into the hotel. Judge Geoffrey who presided over the Courts at that time was very keen on hanging and it was said that he had the Smugglers heads impaled on the spikes of the railings of the church.
