- Second instalment of a multi-video discussion with my friend Johnny Guitar. This time we analyse why he chose the Vacheron Constantin Cornes De Vaches over the sublime Lange 1815 Chronograph. We reflect on his experience wearing a Rolex Daytona in a city where it is the poster child of conspicuous consumption.
I love ❤️ this watch discussion series-please do many more!! Best regards
Totally agree with you on the wearability issue with Lange. VC Cornes de Vache just looks so beautifully and sits so well on the wrist due to its curved and sculptural lugs.
Just might be the most watch-nerdy video I’ve ever watched. GREAT job! Seriously entertaining. Love your enthusiasm. Thanks.
Thanks Scott! There’s more coming from that afternoon with Johnny and we haven’t gone through half his collection yet. I’ll upload more shortly. Just cutting the unsavory bits, lol.
I also debated between the CdV, 1815 (Blue/White), and PP 5170G (white) and ended up up with CdV. I also agree with the awkward fit of the 1815, I found the CdV more interesting, better fitting, and versatile in steel. Great video!
Awesome discussion 👍
Great watch ! Congrads
Great fly-on -the -wall chat..🥂🥂
I've watched them all out of sequence as part III showed up on my feed first. All you need is Tim from Whatchbox and I wouldn't watch any other channel!!
Excellent video. I can't believe this channel only has 8k subs, you deserve many more.
It just shows how small the audience is unless you talk $50 watches or buy views. No way Jenni Elle got 65k subs after five videos without a “push” ;-)
Really appreciated the conversation. Hope to see a new episode soon. I am going to stay with the 1815 chrono boutique edition but liked to hear your take on it vs the VC
Great video! Thank you. I ow the exact same watch and I think that the chrono start (from zero) pusher actuation is underwhelming. Not particularly hard to actuate, but the small surface area of the pusher combined with above ideal required pressure is not ideal.
What do you think about this?
The chrono activation is a bit firm, but not at all unpleasant in my experience. For sure, it is not as smooth as a Lange 1815 Chronograph, where the experience is almost sensual. But buying this reference, I knew I was getting a caliber that is 60 years old. So despite the fact that it is perfectly executed, it comes with the idiosyncrasies of its time, like the fact that the minute hand on the chrono function drags a bit. It is not perfect in itself, but it is perfectly in the spirit of the watch.
Hi Uptick, what was the name of the watch strap with the rubber underneath for the Vacheron seen in the video?
Those are made by Camille Fournet
Now I need to try on Curnes De Vaches. What is the wrist size of the gentleman wearing the watch?
It’s about 17cm. This watch would wear well on any wrist I think.
UptickWatchReviews yea, im thinking abt 1815 chrono :) because he said it didnt fit perfect on his wrist
17.5cm, that's 7 inches on the dot. The Lange didn't fit my wrist exactly well for the reasons I mentioned in the video, and I didn't want to compromise comfort on a watch of this price. A different wrist shape, even at the same size, might induce a different wearing experience. Really, one needs to try it on to figure it out for themselves.
hi . i am being offered to buy exp 2 polar or a sd43 from the ad .. please guide me on which one to choose .. value retention is very imp for me . they have agreed to hold for it for 2 days . your advice will be highly appreciated .. cheers
Get both if you can as they’re complementary but otherwise go for the SD43 if you have the wrist for it as it’s quite a big watch. The Explorer II isn’t hard to buy at discount secondhand so I wouldn’t prioritize it. Also the white dial is very... polarizing and you might get tired of it sooner. I prefer the black dial on this larger version while the white was nicer in the old 40mm reference. The SD43 is less common and the redline makes it special so when discontinued it has a good chance to be sought after.
@@UptickWatchReviews thanks so much .. will definately keep it in mind
Uptick lets have a coffee in Dubai or one day I need to visit you :)!
How much was the vacheron second hand?
I paid USD 30k for it. But that was some 20 months ago.
How were you able to find one second hand? Was it hard? Not finding any right now but maybe I am not searching the right spots
Do you still have it Johnny?
Yes, I do. I haven't worn it in 6 months as I have been out of HK from a combination of nonsensical covid restrictions and personal factors, but I should be back there in a couple of weeks. This will be one of the first watches out of the safe.
The bottom half of the watch looks barren and empty. It's unncessarily busy in the middle.
I wholeheartedly agree: they should have written "Superlative Chronograph Officially Certified" on the bottom half of the dial. It's good to have some literature at hand when one is bored.
@@johnnyguitar6697 Love the sarcasm 😂
The 1815 case is awkward, the subdials are too low (because the architecture was designed with the datograph in mind), and it’s overpriced these days. CDV is the best of the three, though the movement is the least compelling (but charming!)
