I'm here for Seiko lol Also Stern is clearly rattled and his outburst was embarrassing. Patek is too big a brand to act so childishly. A real Patek CEO wouldn't even acknowledge the criticism.
They should have designed a new dial for this from scratch, instead of just using the Nautilus dial. Is there a quick adjustment feature in the clasp? I don't think so. But he's right. I've never owned a Patek and I never will.
He's probably not wrong most of the haters by numbers probably never have had a Patek. Looking at the price and what the new watch looks like probably will continue to not have a Patek either lol. I can afford one but if I was going to buy a square watch I'd get a Cartier over that, especially at that price point for what your getting.
They came up with a square Nautilus, a terrible name, a round movement in a square case, has a maximum PR of 45 h and starts at an astonishingly high price. Just a joke really and shows that this guy would have failed in life had he not been been born into this family. Imagine what you could come up with having PP resources and just a tiny bit of imagination.
Corpulent, cloistered and complacent, Patek are releasing ugly miss after ugly miss. 'Don't want to get a designer onboard..' 'TF? Didn't got too wrong with Genta, did it? Patek's tradition is classical beauty and fine handicrafts incorporated with supreme skill in impeccable, understated watches. Watches that the next generation might actually want. Can you imagine inheriting one of these monstrous baubles? Cheers Dad. PX'd for a Rollie, pronto presto. I can certainly tell that crude, obnoxious man that this Patek fan and owner is horrified by the direction he's dragging his company in and increasingly worried for the future of it. Proper fit of the vapours and no mistake.
Spoiled Nepo Baby - no surprise he’s so arrogant. It’s not just people who can’t afford them. Plenty of veterans of the watch industry are not impressed. And $40k is hardly going to pull many young people in.
He has probably shown it to the brand insider fans and has enough orders to last a decade. Agree it lacks imagination. Most wealthy are however conservative, they all like the same anthracite Porsche Cayenne. Nobody wants a purple Bentley. Its the same with their watches.
I'm not a Patek person, but it is hard to understand the direction they're going... 1.) Taking the most beautiful dress watch and making it into a white gold feild watch. 2.) Putting your dad's face on a watch... 3.) Tire tread Calatravas... 4.) A huge square that costs more than a 6119...
I really wish he didn't say those things about the haters. He can think it but to say it doesn't help him and the many who have invested untold blood, sweat, and tears to hold a timepiece that represents so much more than the individual labor and love that went into them. The only road here, is the high road.
Perhaps the CEO said these inflammatory words to get everyone talking... "The only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about" -Lady Bracknell
If I would be in the market for a luxury timepiece this statement alone would make me want to look for other options. If you’re that arrogant it’s only a matter of time until you fall off your high horse- especially with the growing competition in this price segment.
I think the Cubitus makes complete sense when you consider the target demographic Patek are aiming for. This was was designed for a new younger generation of watch buyers. These people have only known Apple Watches and their 45mm squared screen. This watch has the shape and dimensions that they are used to. Patek dealers have been told to prioritise young first time Patek buyers with this range. It was never for the regular Patek crowd. This was about luring a digital generation back to analogue and ensuring long term profitablity for Patek. The fact that their first new line in 25 years is entry level tells you who they are meant for.
@@montys8th perhaps. But the younger crowd tends to be focused on buying a home. Getting married and starting the family.(debatable from some reports), starting a portfolio, etc. Not dropping 40k on a square green watch.
'I don't work with external designers either. We've done that, but it never worked' 🧐Umm Nautilus wasn't externally designed?!? / One of the most successful watches they produce
And so was the ref 96 that really kicked things off again for Patek. He seems to believe just copy-pasting and photoshopping bits of the heritage is designing
I keep saying this but we need to reevaluate the ability of many of these watch companies. Especially the ones that only give us new colors of old stock and remakes of current models. We are spending our money.... tons of it. They need to start earning* our loyalty. Not a fan of this model at all.
He knows what he is doing, yes he sounds arrogant and probably is but he knows his client base and the Nautillus is a popular design , people don't always like a complete change so he has just stayed in the safe zone and knows they will sell to existing customers and their associates and social circles . His statement refers to customers who have bought from his boutiques and ones who have not do not concern him . I'm guessing
I don't understand what's the hate about round movements in square watches? Santos also has a round movement, so does Vacheron American 1921. I don't get it. By the way, Vacheron American 1921 is the best square watch ever made.
I love the watch. I don’t like the complicated version but never liked the complicated nautilus either. I love the green one and looking forward do the small size and new colors.
Thierry Stern opens his mouth, and Patek loses fans, existing customers, and potential customers. You never expect to see one model release burn a brand so badly, but here we are with the CEO putting on a case study on how not to handle a botched launch. 👀
Interesting you included that new Seiko at the end after talking about the new Patek Cubitus. I was thinking somewhat similarly. I don't like this new Seiko, it just does not have an appealing look. Also, makes me think will there be a trend to make indecisive case shape/details designs? I hope not.
Totally, that Seiko as a Patek would be super cool! At the end of the day, the Cubitus is a whim of Stern, that a Saudi Prince will buy with his coffee money.
As CEO, Thierry Stern, is responsible for the direction of the brand, the new products, but also be the no 1 ambassador and face of Patek. Is he really up for it? Time will tell…

He doesn't care what anyone thinks, said it out loud, and the collection sold out immediately so no one can buy it even if they wanted to. Big deal. I don't mind the watch personally, the only pragmatic issue I would have is that for me personally it's too big (a Monaco is 39mm I think and already too big, this Patek is a full 5mm larger which is a lot), I would prefer it smaller, say 36mm, but even then it's a purely hypothetical conversation as it's not my price point. It's a bold statement watch and they will evolve it over time I am sure into something more neutral.
Well, they had to stop making Nautilus to make this Cubitus thing it's not worth it, and I don't even like the Nautilus, I only like the original size Aquanaut. And God, why didn't the just something like making the Aquanaut cleaner, or rounder, or a Diver with a special new bezel?
I found it interesting that Thierry makes the "AP only have RO but it's very difficult for them because they don't have much else". Difficult for them? It's painfully obvious that it's a fraternal twin. It's not a new design, anybody can see that. It's a subtle shape change at best. Heck, even the dial is the same. This is literally bla bla diplomacy statement though. Obviously its made to reassure his customers that already own Pateks that it's absolutely worth it to add the Cubitus to their collection. They hate the haters as the haters are making too much sense.
You must have been smoking some serious stuff, man. Saying that the Seiko design is what Patek needed. Chapeau to you, but I think that you are quite far from the truth.
Well no sh*t. Of course most don’t own one. They artificially limit the supply to the point of ridiculousness. You don’t need to own a Patek to have eyes and good taste. I can afford one, but the more this clown talks, and the more I learn about him and his family, the more I don’t want one.

The response Stern gave is quite amazing, really shows the true colors of current Patek management.
They had it too good during covid
Snobbery is 100% their appeal. It's their whole marketing strategy.
Kudos to the interviewer for really pushing back on Thierry's BS answers. The so called "watch journalists" could learn a thing or two.
Many of these watch journalists or media outlets have financial incentives to suck off watch brands. Getting dibs on review samples being one of them.
Some CEOs do not have enough resources to make more popular models, but have lots of resources to produce crapituses.
I like the case shape but putting a round mechanism in a square case is a shortcut no questions asked.
but you cant make an automatic round, and what do you think is in the nautilius and aquanaut
The Santos is so good nowadays it’s hard to pick this Santos-knockoff over it. This makes the skeleton Santos seem like a bargain
only blind fanboys would buy this "homage" over the original ... hahha ...
💯 - the Cartier team must have hurt themselves laughing when they saw this.
I find this Patek Cubitus absolutely unimaginative.
If it will sale? Of course it will.
Yes. To men who think buying one will move them up the list to get a Nautilus or Aquanaut.
It won’t sell.

There is indeed a quick adjustment.
He is very correct, after this bumble, most people won’t want to buy a Patek……
I've seen companies burn to the ground because of this level of arrogance.
Of course they said to him it will work well. It’s a hierarchy and they are paid by him. Probably no one had the balls to speak out.
The Emperor has no clothes.
Stern 🤡🤡🤡.
Buy a lange instead
Or a parmigiani fleurier instead
If you hold a Lange and a Patek in your hands, you can tell the Lange is the better one.
Couldnt agree more.
Seems like stern needs cash as theres too much other shit that didnt sell.

Lange is overrated.
