A grandeur and humility... maybe just awe of music and hard work pervades Hopkinson Smith.. as a very young man I meet him in Vicenza in San Felice e Fortunato..
This is the best interpretation amongst guitar and lute players I have ever heard! It is not too much technicality ,just music to dance. Thank you Maestro!
Even though the guitar is kind of more powerful (ad have more resources, strings) this vihuela transports us to a magic time where music was part of the human life in castles, streets, bars, and churches....Mr. Hopkinson Smith is the very best!
Superb. My favourite guitar piece. But you really made it sing, even on such a relatively quiet instrument. So good to hear such a piece on an instrument of the time, especially from such a maestro.
Felicitaciones.
My most favourite song to whistle to.... thank you so much for sharing this wonderful bard's music with me. I love his work on this piece, and, i can whistle it very well too, always makes me feel so alive and whole, and it just makes me bust with happiness. thank you.
Greg, I myself also like whistling (voices of) classical pieces. But this one must be demanding because of the intertwined voices. E.g. for me it is hard to figure out the leading voice of this piece. But the feeling is the same!
I'm having a hard time figuring out why the modern Spanish guitar has completely over run these classical baroque guitars. They are wonderful and the sound is very enchanting, I'd like to see them used more frequently.
Mainly because of baroque's very low volume. Besides spanish guitar has much better sound qualities and wider range of notes. But I love baroque guitar too.
they are also difficult to manufacture and unfortunatly musicians into that particular music and in need of these specific instruments are no legion I don't even want to figure out how much money they would ask for a luth or barok guitar or any instrument being in use in middle age and renaissance considéring how expensive some of the basic classical spanish guitars can be several thousand dollars or euros for good quality concert size nylon string guitars it would make these old instrument very hard to afford
@@zazaa124, a Baroque guitar has choirs but the highest string is a single not a choir. The low volume has nothing to do with the strings per se. Although the sound is more vibrant due to the usage of gut instead of nylon.
Technique is different and as said these are very quiet: lovely as a parlour instrument but too quiet for concert stage. Volume was the reason use of the nail and flesh rather than just flesh developed too in classical guitar playing.
Years and years ago I used to think lute music and baroque guitar music was dated but my perception totally changed. If a piece of music gives people listening pleasure then its mission accomplished.
Beautiful instrument. So the baroque guitar is doubly stringed. Is it a descendant of the vihuela? The plucking technique is so different. I wonder what Caspar Sanz would have thought about Joaquin Rodrigo's adaption of his theme in the lovely Fantasia para un gentilhombre almost four centuries later.
Pra mim, existem 03 violonistas no mundo as quais tiro meu chapéu, são elas: Thu Le - Ana Verdovic - Paola Hermosin - essa tríade me desculpe as muitas outras, mas essas são demais !
Amo!
Wow!!! Magnificent!!! Thank You!!!💙💙💙💙💙
No studio, no big mixer, pure sound!
A relief from effects and computers.

Very talented yet very humble musician.
The baroque guitar is such a noble and dignified instrument

Makes for the low volume by using 10 strings (tuned in pairs?)

Absolutely wonderful, Hoppy.
Bravíssimo!!!
Such a nice guitar and playing
its so spanish-y
and very renissance-y too!
very old english-y!!

His hands were made for this.
Fantastic.
Brillante!!!!!!!!!!!
That was a big ukulele! :-) Well played. Interesting to hear.
WOW Sheer brilliance ..
Enchanting - exquisite - now go and listen to his performance of the Chaconne on the lute !
Maravilloso 😀

Un Grand , le plus grand.
Qué rico suena :3
Amazing
Beautiful instrument. So the baroque guitar is doubly stringed. Is it a descendant of the vihuela? The plucking technique is so different. I wonder what Caspar Sanz would have thought about Joaquin Rodrigo's adaption of his theme in the lovely Fantasia para un gentilhombre almost four centuries later.
It sounds so cute! :)

great mans!!
fantastic.
El puto amo.
Ohhh!!! Maravilla
fabuloso
His first name is Hopkinson?
Anyone know the chord profession he did in the beginning ?
awesom!!!
EXCELENTE. UNA LECCION
¿¿Afinación italiana??
Super! Super! Super!
Beautiful: i’d love an early guitar.Technique is more lute than modern guitar though
Wow!
Quanta bellezza.
The rose on his guitar looks like one on a lute, most of the ones I have seen are down in the sound hole and are made of stiff paper. Interesting.
great
Would love to hear Scarlatti played on vihuela
