      Same here. I road her through Europe and northern Africa. The bike costed 500 Euros. I've owned many other and more powerful bikes after that, but I never had the same adventures as I had with the CB650. Bullet proof engine. I loved it.

      I had one too. An 86' that was beat to hell. Compression was shot on at least two cylinders, but it pulled hard and was a blast to ride! A lot faster than it should have been.

    Came up on my recommendations. They are great engines, great bikes. Only weakspot I found rebuilding mine was the charging system and the original exhaust rusts out easily. The original downpipes are easy to keep if this happens to yours and appears maybe to this one too with the tape wrap on 1/4 and discoloration on 2/3. There is a flange the original muffler is fitted to before welding. You can carefully grind away the weld and have a perfectly usable flange. The mufflers are thin metal, but the downpipes are nice and thick steel. Aftermarket exhausts can be fitted to these, though a spacer can be required due to unusual diameter. I was able to fit aftermarket mufflers to my original pipes. As such, I was able to maintain original factory mounting brackets and engine tuning.
    I want to point out other good features that were never mentioned in this vid for people who are getting info for these bikes. 82 is not only last year for chain drive 650, but also last year of the SOHC 650. It is very unique. Not known to most, but the first years of nighthawk were designed for performance cruiser riding. The 650 nighthawk has factory large diameter forks with the dual, dual piston front calipers and an oversized master cylinder bore. So it is a bit lower on power for 82 compared with many of the newer bikes coming out, but great torque curve with smooth power. Ride em all day, and never getting hot. Mine, I pulled out of a shed where it sat for over ten years and I had put a nice 10k over past few years without touching bottom end.
    And that bike, one year only ^.^

      If it's anything like my '82 750cc model, it has two bolts on the sides of the seat, somewhere around the middle, just under the fairing. I believe 13 wrench is the right size to take them out. It's very inconvenient, but hey..

    • @MarkusReese
      @MarkusReese 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great condition ones, operational I personally have seen hitting 3k. Else most running ones in a general used condition can be 1.5 to 2k range. Potentially could exceed that if you have one with clean decalling, original exhaust and no major flaws with it and can find the buyer who wants and unmolested all original un restored.

    • @ricksimpson2167
      @ricksimpson2167 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      MarkusReese real nice pipes no rust no exhaust leaks you can find it for sale on. Offered up . ?? Or on Facebook. Price has been dropped to $1,600. He needs tires for his SUV for winter. !!!!

    • @MarkusReese
      @MarkusReese 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Have you tried the nighthawk forums? It was a smaller, but great community. Alas, I have been negligent on my keeping up there. I got my 650 still which is why I can say high praises about it. Solid pipes are a big selling point for the old hondas though. Unfortunately it is also a bad time to sell it, specially in a climate where winter becomes important. Also being in Canada makes it trickier for myself or others I know who could buy it.
      One thing that can help sell is that because it is the single cammer, it is easy for its regular maintenance and again, the improved brakes and suspension over most bikes of the era, if you see my post on this vid, it goes into it. To compare, the forks on the nighthawk 650 is bigger than those on honda's bigger bikes. Shares parts with their full performance models at the time like the cx500turbo, etc. However, in addition to solid reliability and easy service, they are great for people more starting out on riding and want something good on fuel and predictable, but also want some thing classic. That info can help as well.
      When I rebuilt mine, the hardest parts to find via aftermarket were the seals for forks and brakes only because the aftermarket often doesn't list the 82 650 nighthawk (CB650SC) so if you just get CB650 parts, they are too small. As result, some cross referencing is needed.
      Anyways, aside from info, there isnt much more I can help ya with. Best of luck selling. I haven't ever met a person unhappy with their nighthawk. Heck, I know a harley rider who picked up an 82 750 nighthawk as a temp as he did some work on other bike. He sold the HD.... Anywhoo, hope that can help a bit. Know what it is like to be strapped for cash. Last year I was faced with choice of sell bike or not eat... Well, I still have the bike!

      IMHO you will need to find two books for the '82 CB650SC. It was the first of the Nighthawk's - and a one year made bike/ with the last use of the old single cam 650 engine & 4X4 chrome pipes. In 83 Honda went to an updated engine and shaft drive.
      1) Clymer Honda CB650 fours * 1979-1982 (includes the 82 supplemental info in the back).
      2) Official Honda Shop Manual CB650's, '79~82. These manuals are 3-ring binder capable with a blue CB650 standard bike picture on the cover. It also has specific 650SC info in the back.
