  • Fort Jefferson - Dry Tortugas National Park. Join us as we explore Fort Jefferson in the Dry Tortugas National Park. This island fortress located in the waters of the Gulf Of Mexico lies off of Key West, Florida. OK, so this video is not quite like our other backcountry segments, however when visiting this National Park you can arrange to transport a kayak over on the ferry and enjoy one of ten primitive campsites on the island. This is a great place for kayaking, snorkeling, fishing and exploring! More info and maps available here: amzn.to/2JhCJEP

It's funny that he says it was never in battle.but I was there in the early 80s as a kid.n yes it was some damage from canons walls destroyed all kinds of damage.it was a eautiful sight as a teen.now it looks so different and redone construction.shoyld have left it how it was back then.the us took the realness out of it n my opinion ruined it for the rest of us that could have seen the original fort w thus damaged walls old canons as they were back then.now it's been restored looks good thou.will be going soon in 2023 w my kids.cant wait.still amazing looking

Are you allowed to fish here?

+akitmano asked "Are you allowed to fish there?" Yes, but with restrictions. First you must posses a current State of Florida Salt Water Fishing License. Areas around the fort that are off limits to fishing include the moat, the moat wall and within 300 ft. of the moat wall. Also fishing is not allowed at the helicopter pad area, at the north beach, at the south beach, and I believe you are not allowed to fish at the main dock either.
