While I think Christy has a nice voice, I think Katy just punches the lyrics and makes you feel it. I think Christy's problem is she didn't connect/show the real her. She's too "nice" (Disney channel issue no doubt.) And people are naturally drawn to people who are edgier and gritty.

Used to love this song when I first stumbled upon it in Christy Carson Romano's MySpace years ago. Been wondering when would she ever release that album. Seems that it fell through sadly. Glad to see it live on through Katy here. Her work is not my cup of tea, but this rendition is simply awesome. She should do more of this. Been trying to find the track through iTunes but I'm having a lot of trouble doing so. It isn't even under "The Matrix" artists. Can't find their self-titled album at all.

Christy's version is more natural. But yeah Katy can do reach a top note, but also this version sounded more auto tuned up. You can actually hear it. That's why katy has to cover it up by reaching a specific high note.

me and I'm sad to report that I can understand why they chose Katy over Christy. Her voice just had a more raw and youth driven artistic quality to it. Christy is the better vocalist for sure, but Katy's voice will stand out on the radio.

Christy’s voice is great. We can’t argue with that. But this version of Katy is just so exceptional. Her version made me feel all the emotions the song speaks.
I like Christy's voice better. It's like butter. She could have changed it up a little so it was less broadway sounding and grittier if she was allowed more studio time and direction. Katy already knew to tap into that grittiness since she is a singer, but I think Christy would have had a successful music career had she had the chance to learn her singer side better. No one gave her the chance. That's the tough part of the music industry. So few get the chance they deserve.

I feel like more work was put into this song. But Katy's voice suits it better i think because its lower and she can add slight roughness to her voice. Christy's was a little to clean and poppy. I wish she had gone in a more Evanescence type sound. But thats just me.

Katy has had a lot of problems hitting notes throughout the years. Especially when fireworks had just came out. BUT she didn’t give up, and her voice improved. I do like her style though regardless of whether she can hit notes or not. I suppose there is always auto tune and lip syncing as long as the style is good 🤷♀️
Not to be catty, but Christy goes out of her way to say don't pit women against each other, while comparing her talent to other women. Honestly I think it's pretty sad that Christy thinks she has a voice equivalent to Katy Perry and Anne Hathaway. There's a reason they got the roles and record deals that she didn't.
Cuz she didn't fit the profile. Anne Hathaway's voice is nothing special AT ALL, she doesn't even have vibrato, and Katy Perry has been consistently horrific live since the beginning of her career. I have NEVER heard her sing a song on-key live, ever. Whereas, talent-wise, Christy takes the cake because she is a Broadway singer. There is no contest with regards to who has a better voice, but Christy just didn't fit the bill. Disney is a mark that you never can erase.
