- A look at SMS Rail Service operations at Pureland Industrial Park in New Jersey in the mid 90's. This was the era when they kept the power in the open at the Sharptown Road crossing. Featured locos are: 1293, an 8 cylinder normally aspirated DS 4-4-1000 originally off the Copper Range Ry. in Upper Michigan, 1494, a 6 cylinder turbocharged DS 4-4-1000 originally built for the PRR, and 554, an AS616 originally built for Kaiser Steel's Eagle Mountain RR in California. Thanks to the SMS crew for the brief cab ride.
Relaxing.
They must have a great mechanical department to keep these old girls running. What I would do for a job like that...
The road number of my SMS Bowser HO Baldwin 4-4-1000
Great stuff

Northern California Lumber Companies loved them.
Engines can run fifty or sixty years, get a complete overhaul and run another fifty or sixty years if they are properly maintained.
