Good catch! My Scion tC coupe didn’t have a dedicated trunk button, it was opening using “Door Unlock” button, since hatch back is considered a third door... But Toyota keys have 4 buttons anyway. New flip keys are available without trunk button though.
I have the 4 button type for 2015 corolla. The winding spring is amazing bad design and the spring come out so many time and take me quite a while to put it back together. When I wind one time, it is too loose but when I wind 2 time, the spring jump out. They should have design something that do not need to manual winding the spring. Anyway, I do it so many time that I can do it next time but 100% not for anyway did not do this before. I am pretty sure whoever did not do this and try to change the battery, they will lost the spring. Also, it depends on the model of the flip key, I saw lot of youtube video trying to change the key because the flipping mechanical /metal/ case slot has broken. Can you give me a update that your key is holding and in good working condition? thanks for the video.

@@DIYtimeTRD I took it to an electronics shop and the solderer recommended that I don't glue the transponder until I spoke with the dealership because it may cause electrical connection issues. Did you have this issue? I think I'm just going to tape it down with some electrical tape since the transponder doesn't move much.
i would use something more flexible like rubber cement or wedge a small piece of paper or cardboard so as not to affect the electronics. that way it would be easier to take out again if needed.

Not really. I had a coupe car, and it’s considered “3rd door”, so the trunk button on original fob didn’t do anything. I had to use the “door unlock” to open “trunk”. That’s why I got flip key without “trunk” button. They sell flip keys with trunk button for regular sedans as well.

I would think that you could get the key cut first before you do all that work to install the transponder. I'm sure that would work that way also

Yeah, try to find and cut off a piece that makes it stuck.

Use glue gun instead. It will be easier to remove if need be.

not expecting a response, but what if the chip is built in to the key itself?
I would recommend making a duplicate key and then try to carefully get the chip out. That way you are not risking breaking the one and only key.

Not this one, but there are other flip keys that will work with 2014 out there.

It is on the bottom in the middles of the fob.
How did you safely remove the transponder chip? It's very hard to remove on my toyota key.
