    The clamp() calculator I used in this training is overly complicated, so I built a new one for you. You can use it here: geary.co/clamp-calculator/

      I noticed that the output between the original and yours version is different. Mind saying why is that? What are the changes? My curious brain would appreciate it!

    • @Gearyco
      @Gearyco  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@wittywolk There are different ways to calculate the middle value. My calculator uses the same method used in Automatic.css and removes the redundant calc() inside the other calculator's output. I think the other calculator used a bit of an older method.

      @FBA C[r]ASH Course That's why AutomaticCSS includes it. People didn't want it in the raw clamp outputs for normal CSS use. If you're using ACSS, you don't need a clamp calculator.

    On behalf of the entire web design community, I'd like to express our appreciation for creating these enlightening tutorials. It's clear that numerous aspiring web designers can greatly benefit from this content, even those who may not be aware of their knowledge gaps (WHICH THERE ARE MANY). Although the series currently covers very basic concepts, these foundational skills are essential for anyone aiming to deliver professional websites to clients.
    I have assigned a newbie team member to watch each video, followed by a quiz-devised by one of our managers-to evaluate their comprehension. We eagerly await a more ADVANCED COURSE from you in the future (we'd happily pay for it), which would significantly contribute to the training of our more experienced power users.
    P.S. I wholeheartedly concur that you stand out as one of the ONLY TH-cam creators providing the essential education needed for one to confidently identify as a "web developer/designer." 👏

It is a challenge to resist the urge to pause the videos to go monkey around with each new thing I learn. In the video, you set the clamp on the H2 settings only. Do we need to set the clamp on every H1, H2 until H6? Can we just set it one for all the headings?
    If we need to set it for each headings, then what is the difference with we set at each separate breakpoints???

      Yes you need a separate clamp for each heading level. But there are no breakpoints to manage when you use clamp.

  • @dustindauncey

    Question: do you use the default breakpoints in Bricks Builder or do you setup custom ones in most projects? And do you always do desktop-first or do you do mobile-first? I am getting confused by online tutorials where some suggest building for mobile-first but can’t that still be done by the clamp functions for example and leaving it desktop-first in terms of which direction the settings flow? Would love your input.

    Hi Kevin
    Is there a specific rationale behind configuring the container size to 1336px? Additionally, when determining the ideal measurement unit for the container , should we prioritize px, rem or percentages (%)? which is better and what is the ideal size?
    Also, I watched a little bit of a video about Automatic CSS (to get an idea), I noticed the use of pixels instead of rems. Is there a particular reason for this choice although you said the px time is over?

      @@Gearyco Thanks for the link to the calculator.
      The best way I can describe this is a 'reverse clamp';
      Let's say on desktop I have an image which is 10vw. But on mobile, 10vw is too small. So on mobile I need the image to be 20vw.
      An increase from 10vw to 20vw as the screen gets smaller.

    When to use: 'I need ..... never get smaller than X"
    The Max() function makes the above counter-intuitive to me (unless I am missing the logic boat). So, it seems that Min() and Max() should be switched in terms of naming. Whoever is in charge of naming did it for reason(s) I don't know. Not a Kevin issue, of course.

    In my opinion, the clamp function is not perfect. I often still have to adjust the font size on mobile devices because it's slightly larger than I would like, and as a result, it doesn't fit on one line. Am I the only one with these concerns?

    This method was very different than even what Webflow advocates for, as fluid and not jerky movement is only important and visible for developers shifting chrome inspection window, but real world users don’t see that as they open the website on their devices with fixed dimensions.
    Even within breakpoints, there are variations, as not all mobiles are the same dimensions for eg, as can be seen on the Webflow breakpoints interface, there are variations within breakpoints and they need to be adjusted for, and I am not sure how these would play out for editing those variations within breakpoints.
    Withholding judgment till I see the whole course.

      True, users load the page on a device and that's it. But fluid responsive typography responds to that device size, where static breakpoint values do not. So the rendering of a font size via manual breakpoints, for example, is based on a device size the user isn't currently on.
      With mobile breakpoint management, the range between each breakpoint shows the same rendering even though it's not necessarily appropriate for the bottom of that range as it is for the top of that range.
      So, what exactly is the advantage to manual management of every breakpoint? And what is the supposed disadvantage of fluid responsiveness?
      "Webflow doesn't teach it this way" isn't a relevant argument against fluid responsive development. Maybe webflow is just way behind in their instruction. I've been teaching this for years and most people in the advanced CSS world advocate for it as well.

    Lots of good information. Could probably shorten each video by 15 minutes if he would stop calling people doing things 'incorrectly' chumps. Ignorance is not something to be attacked. Just tell us the incorrect thing and how to fix it. Free course though with lots of great content. Would still recommend.

    AutomaticCSS should include fluid line-height with clamp on the typography! Its a dealbreaker for me.
