The 1960's were the golden era of NHRA & AHRA Drag Racing. The shear amount of different approaches to building these SP/Gassers really showed the individual owners/builders style and mechanical talents. This is a really fun look back at racing's "yesteryear!" Edit: I as well as you mentioned,, wanted a set of Hooker Headers for my lifted/off road Chevy Blazer but wound up installing Doug's Headers instead because the price was right. They turned out to be just right for my application. And, they really sounded cool.
Awesome channel and content. I love the historic drag racing, was a kid back in the early 60s, just subscribed 👍 Cheers🍻🍻🍻 KC Cradle Mountain ⛰️Tasmania Australia 🇦🇺🤝🇺🇸
GOOD STUFF! (I've got a SBC MGB street car, see avatar) Baxter & Bronson Corvette was a SF Bay area car, seems like I saw it doin' wheelies/runnin' low 10s @ Fremont most of the 70s (BBC powered)
Incredible! at 0:25, The High Heeled Sneaker has a shot. Ironic is that the car is from Wenatchee Wa. I'm in Wa State. Never seen it or that picture before. Amazing. A buddy has a 240Z with a 14:1 SBC1 283 and a 4 speed. He is doing the Gasser theme with a straight axle up front and big leafs in the back.
I got to see a Lot of these cars run as my Dad took me All Over the Midwest to Drag Strips . Back then , in the '60s , '70s and later. These cars depicted in this video Ruled on drag strips from West Coast to The Atlantic Shores. If it didn't click in Qualifying, they just stepped it up a " little more". I've said Publicly for more than 20 years , NHRA ruined drag racing and What it became Famous for. Real Hot Rods still exist and the People that build Them and Engineer Them , still exist. Yet , some of our efforts are Damn Near Illegal Anywhere.
I knew a guy in high school who had a Vega, it had a 327 with a tunnel ram and 4 speed transmission. The body was getting so twisted he sold it. I love the little cars with the big engines though!
That last photo is a killer, you can tell driver is not happy. I didn't laugh at it, it's not funny to me. I enjoyed other photos that show well know drag machines behind the unknown (to me) hot sports cars !
Outstanding work and video
Thank you very much!
I loved the diversity of this class
Great video! That hemi Healy now that looks cool

Cars still look gorgeous as I'm looking at them at 62 years old is when I was a kid in the 60s and 70s looking at them. 😁👍👍
Great trip down memory lane. I'm from Aussie, I loved the Honda 600 mentioned and Thorley headers were good.
Finding info on these unique cars had to be quite the time-consuming project. Much appreciated!
The Bob Ida Healy is one good looking cool car !
Watch all your videos. Great commentary. That story Doug's Headers was kikkin !

[1:16] Joe Lunati's Trouble Maker was NHRA national record holder in A/modified sports
😊😊😊😊😊
Great Video
Around 1980 there was a touring show on the west coast with quite a few shoe-box chevys. With them was an RX3 powered by a wankel.

Alot of people forget that sports cars were hot Rods to.I run a modified AlfaRomeo and get alot of frowns from traditional rodders.
I'm guessing the red Jag E-Type is a fiberglass recreation. Great video!
BEST VETT WAS HEMI POWER...LOVE THE EDUCATIONAL VIDEOS WITH ENGINE N ETs.❤😅
Bob Ida started a cruise night on Thursdays in Asbury Park NJ.
Where are they now ?
7.70 Wow! They were Fast The Green Giant from CA.
I think it was an 8.70
Fuel cars were barely that quick then.
You missed the US MULE, MGTD that ran at Dover, another trip down memory lane. Cars are still here, owners are gone or going fast.
Yel,iam 63 years old used to like them Alters
354 hemi? 5:09
1956
@@strokersteve468 Really? I never heard of these being used in racing. Learn somethin new....... ty
Doug's headers were half the price of a set of Hookers. I always wanted a pair of Stahl headers but...
A buddy of mine put a 454 in a Chevy Vega, it blew up soon after because too much power in a car that was a match box car.

My little Triumph feels kinda sketchy at 65 mph, I can only imagine running 9s in it
That Was A Cobra Drag PAC Car
'The Mongoose' Corvette is messed up looking. Like, WHY with those rear wheel arches???!!!
