    omg this reminds me of me. I have to take care of my biology teachers sick insects because he neglected them so much 😭 he has 2 tanks and in the bigger one the walls were black with dirt, it was filled halfway ti the top with dried leavea and as i later found out dead moldy stick insects, there were fruit flies and mold growing everywhere and it was filled about an inch and a half from the bottom with their waste material 😭 not to mention it was completely overpopulated because CLEARLY he didn't clean or even touch that tank in about 6 months or more. It was so heartbreaking cleaning it. Now i take care of his stick insecta and their enclosures are nice and clean and they're thriving and the population numbera are going down but honestly its so heartbreaking to see these animals so neglected just because people think that throwing them anywhere with a bunch of leaves is enough. I love then so much it breaks my heart 😭😫💔

      😲 A lot of people just don't respect insects. Luckily, you take care of the little animals.

      I can say they're really happy now. And only one adult one died since then. The little ones in the video are starting to lay eggs and some small babies are already born.
      thanks for the support!!

    Just ivy? At least supplement it with romaine lettuce, bramble, and privet! Variety is key you know :)

      Actually once the stick insects start on a select plant (such as ivy) they normally won't want to eat other stuff even if it's edible. This is not always the case though of course.

      In Reverse are the female ones the ones that look like sticks? Or is that all of them. Sorry for my stupidity.

      In Reverse hey what leaves did you use
      I want to give my insects a variety of leaves to choose from :)

    • @samevans7564
      @samevans7564 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The females are normally the longer, thicker ones with nicer and more vibrant colours and the males are normally twig like with a darkish brown colour. With this species the males are extremely rare as the females are able to reproduce without a male, the males of this species (if you ever see one) are very similar to the females but are a bit smaller and a brownish colour. I hope I answered your question well, it isn’t stupid to not know (I didn’t know for ages)

    The terrarium itself was not that bad for small sticks (a breeding terrarium) Adult females like height. People who start stick insects, don't understand almost every egg laid hatches..... Put them in a bag and leave it it in a fridge for some time for 'humane' deposal. Or just crush the eggs for non 'humane' deposal.

    • @NMW80
      @NMW80 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      killerdriller666 or just put them outside on the ground and let them hatch? I wouldn’t be able to kill them. I mean as long as the species you have is from your country then you can let the eggs go outside to hatch in nature

      These psg1 stick insects only ivy. But you can give them also other plant varieties. Ivy works great for me

      In Reverse cool. Do you know much about the Ctenomorpha chronus species?i read they eat gum leaves, 🌹 leaves, raspberry leaves and like black berry leaves. I wonder if they eat ivy too? All the web pages I have read don’t have heaps of info of all types of leaves. You seem to know a lot about them that’s all. I will keep reading, we found an injured one and hoping to take care of it until it’s stronger and then will let it go. It’s missing a leg. I hope their legs grow back.

    • @inreverse2506
      @inreverse2506  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have had Carausius morosus and they can eat ivy but that's rather exceptional. (also why it's such an easy species) Nowaday I also have Phyllium philipinicum (I'm planning to make a video about them in the future) and they can't digest ivy. So I have to give them blackberry leaves. I think if you can't find ivy on the caresheet of the Ctenomorpha chronus it probably is because they can't digest it either. So you have to stick with the plants you have found on the internet. And the regeneration will depend on if the stick insect is fully grown or not. If he has to go trough another moult it is possible he can grow it back but if he is adult (and so no mouldings anymore) it won't restore. Otherwise those insects can handle a loss of a leg. If had several insects with a missing leg and they're doing just great.

    Hi! Im doing reserch about these little guys, could you please tell me what is the minimum size for a terrarium, and can i have just one or do i ned two of them? How big do they get? thanks!

    • @jasperblack4648
      @jasperblack4648 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Polīna The minimum height of the enclosure should be at least twice the length of your largest stick insect, although I have read in alot of places it should be three times. This is because stick insects hang vertically to moult and if there is not enough space for this to happen it can result in the insect becoming severely deformed or even dying. Some places state that the width of the enclosure should be twice the length of your largest insect but others often don't specify, I would suggest that it should be at least the length your stick insects to allow them to move around freely. Of course numbers will differ depending on species and the number of insects looking to be homed should be considered too.

    • @jasperblack4648
      @jasperblack4648 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Polīna to answer your other questions: I have not seen anywhere that there is a need for multiple insects to be homed together although I have never seen someone opt for just one.
      The adult size of the insects depends on what species your interested in.

    • @ninjayt814
      @ninjayt814 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      35 cm high and 30 cm wide and deep is minimum for 1, you can just keep one insect but you can have 2, females live longer and they get to about the size of your palm

    • @killerdriller666
      @killerdriller666 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree with Scales and Tails, depends on the species and how many you put in the terrarium. I used to breed PSG1 When the eggs hatch the are 1cm max (google tells me that is 0.393700787 inches) the height of lunchbox is enough. But when they start shedding their skin the first time (moult, Scales and tails calls it), they need more height. I used a small terrarium that was around 10 cm high (3.93700787 inches) 10cm is a normal size for adults. When they have shed their skins for 2 or 3 they can grow fast. That is the time I put them in a normal terrarium. 40cm high (15.7480315 inches) The adults live in an even higher one.. I have visited a breeder recently to get some new sticks and I found out he has a simular setup as I had. He too adviced 3 times the height but uses setups 4x the size. The reason is the amount of sticks he has in the terrarium and the type of plants PSG1 eat. They like fresh young poison ivy (so he can put in long poison Ivy vines in there, folds the branches in the terrarium giving them both places to climb and hide) He sometimes cuts of a branch of wild black and raspberry bushes. PSG1 like that too.

      These look like PSG1 Aka indonesian walking sticks, poison Ivy is their main dinner. They wil eat more like raspberry. and hazel leaves. (mine do)

    • @killerdriller666

      Depends on the species. (check out www.phasmatodea.com and go to the PSG list for more info on species and what they eath) PSG1 eat plants like poison ivy, Raspberry and blackberry leaves and I fed mine even leaves from a rosebush. But yes, some eat oak too. Experiment. My walking sticks liked only one 2 types of poison Ivy. One of them was Hedera hibernica. (irish poison ivy I believe it is also called)
