Spiny leaf insect set up

  • This video is about me rehousing my new spiny leaf insects and also give me a chance to share some information for those who would like to get some. They do have a short life span but reproduced really easily.
    Feeding tips: Give a variety of older and fresh younger leaves.
    They like Eucalyptus (Gum) leaves, or bramble leaves if you don’t live in Australia.
    Make sure that nobody has sprayed any chemicals on the tree you cut collect leaves from. If you feed your insect on eucalyptus leaves, they will turn a shade of tan to camouflage against dry, curled eucalyptus leaves, but if you feed it on brambles it will turn green in order to better blend in to their environment.

    I used to have a couple of spiny leaf insects for a few years, one male and one female. Eventually, I ended up letting them go in my backyard on the tree id get their leaves from, unfortunately, a few weeks later I say my dog eating one, she whoofed it down before I could stop her.

      Joe Brown ... people use leaves from “ Rubus sp “ try out different leaves in this species and just observe what one your leaf insects like the most.

    Hi mate, I’ve just found your channel and I’m absolutely loving it! Just a bit of advice if you still have stick insects, if you put more leaves in there, it will give them a lot more of a realistic feel, and give them more places to hide and play in. Great video and I can tell you know what you are talking about. Much love.

      I did use heaps of leaves but found most of them got waisted, I will be starting up another group in the not so far future:) and it’s in a massive enclosure.

    Oh yes when he said the little guys i thought he was joking but no they are little guys. I forget how small they are i have 4 boys and the 2 oldest have grown their wings and i forgot that ive had them since they were tiny and omg they get huge. I used to have 2 females but all their eggs moulded after 2 years coz my brother forgot about them while i was away for 6 weeks also my 2 females died due to old age but those girls were huge and loved being held and now out of my 4 boys my oldest is the only one that likes being held. They are such great low maintenance pets they are also so cute i would recommend getting them

    hiya. I just bought four jungle nymphs, I'm in the UK and they aren't all doing really well. they're ok but how can i get it warmer and create humid conditions for them, what do I need to buy? thanku !

    • @LifeOfSi
      @LifeOfSi  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fortunately I didn’t need heat but I did use a light that warmed things up when it got cold here, but that drys out things. Depending on your set up you could use a heat cord/mat, or you could move them to the warmer rooms.

    • @LifeOfSi
      @LifeOfSi  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      With humidity you will most likely have to spray more water.

      Tiana Dunn the eggs take a long time too hatch so you can give them away... people are posting them around Australia. And one of my female turned out to be a male 😂but didn’t fly much.

    • @LifeOfSi

      They drink water off the leafs and sides of the enclosures. Thats is why you need to spray the enclosure at least once a day
