It's so ironic that Sonny was so honourable, accepting his fate and not running to the FBI, and yet Joe Massino who becomes Boss turns informant and tells on everyone.
Joe Massino actually cooperated due to his family becoming homeless because the FEDS were taking all his ill-gotten gains from him. All the money he made over the years, somewhere in excess of $50 million dollars. Gangster's in the days that "Sonny Black" was whack had limited amount of wealth. Today's real estate market "Sonny Black" would be a multi-millionaire just with the two properties mention in this video. That's why many mobsters "dove" into the drug trade in those days, because it was very lucrative.
Massino's wife and mother who were in poor health were gonna get evicted from their home. Plus Massino already saw where the life was headed. Many people in the street can relate to this 'short comings" presently by comparing the last days of the drug trade in the streets. The "drug game" was coming to an end and people took as much as they could before it ended.
I think the story was feds were trying to make Sonny Black flip because his life was over at that point. Got to give it to those old gangsters, they definitely had some balls.
@@TinaMariE1280 they picked lefty on a way to a meeting he was probably going to go as well, they thought he would flip but he didn't.Two hardcore gangsters Sonny and lefty RIP

The way you can narrate a video with all the facts and dates is the most impressive part of these. I used to think you had to be reading from a pre-written script or sheet with data points, but then I saw the camera on you as you finished this video and you don't. Unreal and great work MDC!
Awesome job! That movie was fantastic. Mr. Pistone put out a book years ago from his perspective. There were audio copies of some of the wiretaps on cd included w/the book.
My aunt lives right around the corner from the club. She recalls Sonny Black with his pigeons on the rooftop as well. Idk if the pigeons were on the club rooftop but she does remember them. Great videos. I truly enjoy it a lot
I saw an interview with Joe Pistone earlier this year. Michael Franzese actually interviewed him on his channel & they're reportedly pretty tight. I can only imagine the amount of pressure Pistone was under with having to play the role for like 6 years for this undercover assignment, and being away from his family pretty much the whole time except for an occasional visit. At one point, I believe his wife was in a near fatal car accident during that time & he could only go see her in spurts, but she pulled through. Anyway, unfortunate mistake for Sonny Black, but fortunate ending for Pistone. I was dying laughing when you said people have been commenting on your hair! Hair, makeup & outfit are just fine! LOL! Always is. Thanks again for another great video. Hi Truck & feel better soon Mooney!
I’ve see multiple interviews with Joe Pistone and he said he never had any guilty feelings. He said he liked sonny but sonny chose to be a gangster and he was an FBI agent and he drew the line there. Great interview on TH-cam, “ Most hated FBI agent in the mafia-Joe pistone aka Donnie Brasco 😊
This is an interesting story, I can only imagine how Joe Pistone must have felt afterwards. I know it was only a job & everyone got what was coming to them. But Pistone literally lived with these guys for several years I just wonder what ran thru Pistone’s head after this all went down. Excellent reporting as always!
He says contradictory things about it but you can tell it broke his heart. His voice cracked up when he talked about the message sonnys wife delivered to joe afterwards. He told her to tell joe "if it was gonna be anybody, im glad that it was you".
The hell with what people think. It shows your clearly sick and your out still making videos. Thnxs again for the great content. Watching from Lewiston,Maine.
The one i`ve been waiting for awesome video Mooney Donnie Brasco is one of my all time fav mob movies a movie classic, fantastic to see the actual location and characters involved it surprises me how pistone never got killed in fact i saw an interview with joe were he said he was at a sitdown and was nearly exposed and got into a fight with a made man i`m guessing it would only have been a matter of time before he got whacked there`s a scene in the movie were three Bonano captains got killed Philip Giaccone, Dominick Trinchera and Aphonse sonny red Indelicato you should check the story out . Your video was one of your best so far mooney and just for the record joe pistone was asked who he feared most in all his time as undercover agent he said " Tony Mirra " thanks mooney brilliant video look forward too the next one .

SOB Ok now I'm jealous and I'm a 70 yr old Grandma... Mooney, you're on your own. :o)
Ooooh, Mooney taking a jab at me for the perm reference. But u still look like a young David Hasselhoff, which by looks alone is a good thing. Better than saying u look like Gary Coleman. 😂
Sonny Black was a true gangster for sure. The movie is a must watch as hearing the the FBI audio files on it, Al Pacino and Johnny Depp definitely nail the roles. One of the best mob movies made. Great video Mooney.
Lefty Ruggiero and Sonny Black are both buried about 3 blocks away from me at Calvary Cemetery. It's also the cemetery where they filmed Don Corleone's burial scene in the Godfather. That spot still looks like it did in the movie except the great big gas tanks and the bridge seen off in the distance are gone.
The scene takes place in front of a black, cross shaped gravestone with the name Daly on it. There's still an empty space around it where they all sat around the Don 's grave. In the background there's a stone crypt marked Hildreth. These are are clearly visible in the movie. If you want a place to have a drink or a bite to eat nearby, there's a good Irish pub called Bantry Bay on Greenpoint Ave near the cemetery entrance which also hasn't changed much since the movie.
Pistone says nothing about Sonny commanding 500 soldiers, and he would have known. Pistone also said that he met Sonny's girlfriend sometime later, and she told him that Sonny had borne no bitterness toward Joe, or Donny, as he knew him, and told her that Donny had done his job and done it professionally, and Sonny respected that. This is a great piece of storytelling, blended with the neighborhood where it all went down, even with the changes time has made. Thank you.
...I grew up a few blocks from the Motion Lounge..I worked in a local store as a delivery boy and SAW the FBI surveillance van a block away from the ML...neighborhood changed a lot!!!...
One thing that broke joe up was the message sonny told his wife to tell joe. She contacted joe after sonny died and gave the message "im not mad at all. If it had to be somebody, im just glad it was you". Either on hotboxing, franzese's podcast or maybe wvlad (i think it was mike tysons hotboxing) when joe retold that story his voice cracked up. Despite what he says, clearly it devastated him that sonny was murdered. He flat out says he genuinely loved sonny so obviously you cant be responsible for a man you became extremely close with getting wacked and not be all FCKD up about it.

I think he started to enjoy it. He didnt want the operation to end and tired to persuade the FBI to keep it going. He got seduced by the lifestyle
He should charge people to run their fingers thru his hair. Like $20.00 for 5 minutes.
