The World's Biggest Christmas Goat | The Gävle Goat

- In Gävle, Sweden, you can find the world's largest christmas goat. And this poor goat is burned down almost every year...
I'm on a road trip from Stockholm to the far north of Sweden, and I'm checking out all the weird and wonderful things I can find along the way. This time I explored the town of Gävle.
The Gävle Goat (Gävlebocken) is a gigantic straw goat that's traditionally placed in central Gävle in the beginning of December...and it's also traditionally burned down sometime before or after Christmas. Since 1966, the goat has been destroyed 37 times, even though it's also highly illegal.

It was actually a pretty dull town, but I loved the goat :D I'm planning on going there again on a daytrip / weekend when all the cool stuff are open, like Furuvik and the Prison Museum :)

This is very interesting!! That is indeed a big goat! I guess it would be quite the view to see such a big goat, just burning! I really like how you include so much history and information in your videos!!! Sweden is definitely a place that I will be visiting in the future!
It really was a spectacular sight even non-burning! Sweden has many cool things and it's great if you enjoy nature. I guess we can be a bit "asocial" compared to other countries but we are friendly when we do speak :)

You know when you got close to that goat at 3:10 i got a bit scared, i thought you were going to say 'has anyone got a light?' :D Joking aside, i am bit of a party-pooper perhaps and not very rebellious, to me it seems quite sad and wrong to set fire to such a wonderful thing.
Then you can rest peacefully, knowing that the goat has been safe for many years now :D It seems like those burning days are long since gone ^_^
Wow... A christmas Goat!!!... Such a majestic festive creature. I love they keep it protected behind 2 layers of medieval fencing... That'll stop those people from Cleveland!
We love our pagan traditions here :D And well, we're keeping the Clevelanders away but Swedes try to do it instead. Bloody land full of arsonists.

Excellently narrated story of the Christmas goat. Did it get burned down this year?? Quite wild that it keeps getting reconstructed after all these years. They're going to need a 12m tall electric fence to keep people away eventually.
Thank you! Amazingly enough, it seems to have survived yet again! It's been three years in a row now, so they might be on to something... But maybe next year...

Haha, I wish I knew! I didn't see that many details about it. I imagine a big crane at night for stealing it... But kicking it to pieces might simply be lots of people destroying the pillars inside it I guess...?
