Thanks for the video. Question… a buddy rebuilt his ‘78 shovel and now it doesn’t start properly. I noticed there is continuity between the 2 high current studs on the solenoid. Also, the starter side also has continuity to ground. This back feeds to the starter switch and once the battery is attached, it tries to start constantly but the solenoid doesn’t engage. His solenoid is new and worked last year but seems faulty now. He had the engine out and I’m cautious he did something wrong. Wiring all looks good and as it did last year when I wired 100% of it. I have pulled the solenoid off a few times and the continuity between studs is broken. Reinstall and it returns. Should I open the solenoid as you have and inspect the inside? I just cannot find the problem. Thank you.
The terrible chrome cover is not different from any aftermarket supplier, I've been fixing old Harleys for 30+ years, and if anything, it seems like the stuff they sell is getting worse. To be fair though, the 9 year old Chinese kid that built that cover has never been anywhere even remotely close to a real Harley. The people that sell this stuff are not the ones who have to install it, and when you go to send it back, the postage and hassle isn't worth the trouble, so they win. Just about anything I ever get has somehow had to be modified to get it to work, and if not, it becomes part of my expensive shiny stuff in my garbage can.
Great content. I recently acquired a 1969 electraglide from my father in law. When I press the start button, sometimes the start will click sometimes it wont. If I press starter button in and hold, eventually it will try to turn over. Starter works intermittently while pressing the button. Should I do the solenoid repair as you have done. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
I have a similar problem that I am struggling getting solved. I only get one click and it seem to come from the starter relay. If I tap the relay while pressing the starter button it generally engage. When I replace the relay it works for a couple of weeks/months but then the issue resurfaces. really bugs me and I dont know what/how to resolve this :( ('81 FLHC)
15:17 15:17 check the ground between the battery solenoid and the starter battery is mounted in rubber it will not ground efficiently running ground wire from your battery ground to your starter ground
Clear, concise, professional and very helpful presentation. Thanks from Australia. 👍
Thanks for posting this. I'll keep all this in mind for when I decide to re-install my electric start.
Best video I have seen in a while, phraseology and everything. Great job.
Thank you.
This is one of the greatest dyi vids of all time.

Fantastic! Thanks from Málaga, Spain. Shovel '79.
Greetings to you from Malaga in Perth Western Australia - where I have a shovelhead scattered all over the floor. "Buena suerte!"
You'll be watching tutorials for a while I see 😅, well I'm in a similar situation. Less TimTams and no dodgy work.
Good luck from Norway.
Excellent and straight to the point !

Muy bien esplicado gracias colega
Good video. FYI USE A SURINGE WITH SILACONE
every so often my starter will just keep running till I disconnect my battery.....would that be a selenoid problem? or maybe a relay?
Next job on my agenda

It happened to me that I saw that it was broken where the key is located, I don't know, now the automatic doesn't work, could that be it?
.
Great job very helpful!
Informative indeed

Strange. Have you tested these relays outside the bike to rule them out as an issue.
@@delorean1 Cant fault the relays - but seem to point to just that

I don’t know what you are trying to say.
