    Cool, for vent 40x40... how big the hole you cut was in the van roof? like 39x39?

    Do the screws just go into the metal of the roof, or is there something behind it that they go into? Did you use paint or primer on the cut metal at all? Thanks

      Overview Visuals hey thanks for the questions yes I did cover the cut with a touch of paint just to be on the safe side it probably wouldn’t rust as if water is getting to that bit it’s going in the van too but good as a precaution! I just used self tapping screws straight through onto the metal they do stick out a wee bit on the inside but between the van roof and the ceiling I put in

Thanks for the question and keep watching 👍🏻

    Thanks for the video. How have you found the SolarVent? Does it let water in when on the roof?

      @@JamiesCamperMerc906 Hi Jamie please reply. How is it now still no leaks? I'm having problems with mine a small leak in one corner, I have taken it out and redone it but again a small leak. Is the mastic tape and lots of it the key to a leak free roof vent?

    • @JamiesCamperMerc906
      @JamiesCamperMerc906  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Devonian hey sorry for late reply had a lot going on ! Still doesn’t leak I think a good clean surface to start and a thick layer of mastic makes all the difference it could be leaking at the screws so make sure there well covered the RV lap sealant has definitely worked for me if you can find it I strongly recommend it

      @@chatteyj when it leaves the factory there is a releasing agent around the edges of the vent where it touches the roof. Rough it up first otherwise the mastic will not bond to it.

    Thank you for taking time to make this video. Before I commit to starting mine ... did you need the 5 or 6 layers or were you just being double sure? I hoped to use 2 or 3 layers to fill the lowest roof ridges and then one final layer all the way around, with sikalastoma-710 on the top piece of vent to act as a gasket between mastc tape and vent... perhaps one layert wont be enough though?

    • @JamiesCamperMerc906
      @JamiesCamperMerc906  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there Karl I had 19m on a roll and probably used 8m on each one I had I lot to build up with the ribs on top off the van and used one full tube sika flex and half a tube of self levelling RV sealant

    The roof of my van is painted (sometimes flaking), should I be scrubbing off this top layer before applying the sealant?

    Hi I installed the turbo boost fiamma 40, now had the ceiling TnG installed, and had to buy the extension kit, I can not find instructions for fitting! please tell me I don't have to remove the whole sealed in vent?

    • @JamiesCamperMerc906
      @JamiesCamperMerc906  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Wendy if it’s just the inch extension bar for the rotating handle so as you can open and shut the skylight/vent all you have to do is unscrew the four screws that hold the inside frame up onto the ceiling of your van hopefully you haven’t sealed that bit In as it doesn’t need it on the inside unless it’s not sitting flush with your roof ? Hope this helps

    What roof insulation are you using?

    • @JamiesCamperMerc906
      @JamiesCamperMerc906  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Paul Smart I used double bubble silver foil on the inside skin and then on top of it I used recycled plastic bottle loft insulation from B n Q
