    1. The 4th smoke stack isn't just for decorative purpose. It actually brings some air to the engine room as well as ventilate smoke from the galleys and 1st class smoking room
    2. speaking of smoking room, I believe that the room has the only functioning fireplace on the ship. That's why it's connected to the smokestack. Every other fireplace are decorative and actually has electric heaters within.
    Other than these (I might add more since I'm halfway through the video hahah) you seem knowledgeable enough about Titanic and I appreciate you taking us through the exhibit with you! I also recommend checking out Titanic Honor & Glory videos to get a better idea of what Titanic was actually like ^^ because the first class corridor was nothing like what you see in that exhibit lol

    Apparently the last time captain smith was seen. The most agreed on anyways. Was him helping a lady get her baby out of the water and handing he/she to her on the boat. Shortly afterwards folks said he drowned after falling victim to hypothermia.

    • @BigRedJourneys
      @BigRedJourneys  5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      That is what I have heard too. He was helping to fill boats and lead people until he had to enter the water. And there were reports of what was believed to be him in the water towards the end.

    So interesting story i heard from a TH-camr on mysterious stories, the guy in charge of the binoculars key was replaced and forgot to give it back, and i thought the binoculars were locked in a box on board?

    • @BigRedJourneys
      @BigRedJourneys  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Correct. The binoculars were in a box that were locked onboard and the key to that box was in the possession of a David Blair who was reassigned to a different ship at the last second and forgot to hand the keys over. Though in truth the binoculars wouldn’t have helped much that night.

    So fun fact there was not room for both of them. James Cameron teamed up with either Discovery or History Channel and they tested a ton of different ways and it wasn’t possible for them both to get on that one piece of wood. I’m not sure if I saw it on TV or TH-cam but I watched it.

    • @BigRedJourneys
      @BigRedJourneys  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I saw that too. Also chances are if both were to fit on board the door it would most likely push the door below the water line thus exposing them both to the cold water and thus defeating the purpose of trying to stay out to water to survive.

    Considering the construction of the front of the ship, i wonder if they just went head first into the burg, that they would have stayed afloat. Any feedback?

    • @BigRedJourneys
      @BigRedJourneys  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, many historians and experts agree that the way she was designed and how she can float with up to 4 bulkheads flooded (not 5) then a front on impact would have been a better alternative because her bow which had very thick steel, thicker than the sides of her port or starbard sids, would have taken more of the impact like a car bumper and maybe one or two compartments would flood which would have given Titanic plenty of mobility to still make it to New York just at a slower speed. Also bows of large vessels back then were designed with a frontal collision in mind as that was the more "common" way a collision would occur if any so ship designers placed heavy importance on a sturdy bow and stern sections.

    The gates were opened the third class weren't familiar with the other spaces on the ship and the first class cannot go where ever they want they have areas like the 2nd and 3rd classes no titanic from construction was never meant to be the fastest ship in the world it was just meant to be the biggest and comfortable for all

    I went here! My only problem with the exhibition was the grand staircase. It was much smaller and more cheaply made than the actual one on the Titanic. Also the clock thing is a myth.

    • @BigRedJourneys
      @BigRedJourneys  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes the staircase in this exhibition was strictly just for photo ops. They won’t let you stand too far on it since it is not a true and sturdy staircase. And yes the clock was never onboard as it was not finished in time for the voyage and instead was a mirror.

    So it wasn’t a moonless night like they’ve always said?

    • @BigRedJourneys
      @BigRedJourneys  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No, there was a moon but it was only a waining moon. So the maximum amount of light available wasnt there. The bigger issue was the flat atlantic ocean that night which caused no waves or wake. It was like glass on the water which made the iceberg much harder to spot safely.

    Love your video thank you for sharing. I have a comment though, in this video: th-cam.com/video/-p3D7rQdhxw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=f2qFRFm5w-DQA_NN
    There was a Third-class passenger interviewed and when she was asked “How did you escape”. She replies” I was in third class, trying to go onto second class, and we were standing there and this man, our guardian angel yelled “for god's sake let the women up”
    It's clear to me that she meant third-class passengers were prevented from going up while first class was served to the lifeboats.
    25 minutes on your video you said that didn’t happen”. I believe it did (based on that interview). I don’t think they purposely wanted third-class passengers to die, but it was a very different time back then when societies were ruled by class. The officers expected the first class to be evacuated first, then the second class then the third.
    They probably did not even know there were not enough lifeboats. They were just following orders from the ship. Some
    of these passages were locked before the sinking yes, but I don’t doubt for a minute that when the officers began evacuating people into the boats, they were focused on first class first, then second then third.
    One of the reasons more third-class children and women died than first-class men
    😊I enjoyed your post 🩷

    • @BigRedJourneys
      @BigRedJourneys  20 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Thank you for your comment and for watching the video.
      To answer your point: it is documented that doors or gates were put in place to keep 3rd class passengers away from areas in which they were not supposed to have access to such as 1st class rooms and specialty areas. But they were not purposely locked down there during the sinking in hopes that they would perish, the porters were ordered to open all the gates as quickly as possible to make it easier for people to escape and reach higher decks in hopes of a lifeboat. But not all gates were opened forcing some people to be “trapped” and ofcourse by the time the majority of the remaining passengers made it to the lifeboat deck, many of the life boats had been already launched. I just wanted to clarify that the point is in contrast to what was shown in the movie that eluded to the idea that 3rd class were purposely kept locked away to spare the 1st and 2nd class passengers, which was never the case.
      Also, back then safety regulations and lifeboat drills were never put in place so passengers and unfortunately enough, many crew members at that time on ocean liners didn’t know how to manage emergencies or do what they needed to do in times of panic, which is another reason why so many people perished that didn’t have to. The lifeboats could have been fuller, and men could have been spared, if no women or children were around the lifeboats when being launched. Its ofcourse easy for us to sit back and watch and see what they did wrong back then, but in that moment survival instincts and panic always domain.
      Thank you again for your comment and support!

      I would say that any big fan of Titanic and the lore and history of her and that fateful night would enjoy the exhibition. While the vast majority of artifacts are in fact from her sister ships Olympic and Britannic (as mentioned in the video) they are as close as we can get to telling the story of passenger life onboard Titanic. In no way am I endorsing or promoting this exhibit as I paid to go in myself, but I am a big fan of Titanic and wanted to share what the overall experience of the exhibit is so people can see my video and decide if it’s right for them or not.
