Finally finished the game and watched the video, crabsolutely brilliant!! Crazy how much stuff we missed in our playthrough, we never even got the Mantis Punch! Making me want to play it again
It's kinda funny, because I actually quite like Rolands fight, because when you put all that stuff into one, it's not an annoying little thing in a fight, it's the whole fight, making you have to think a little differently
Every time you had to go out of bounds with "uppies" I couldn't help but picture a toddler demanding to be held. Unless you said "uppers".... In which case, great accent!!
Just for players who aren't familiar with this game: the Pagurus double banana trick can be done without dying, you can just use the 'Scrap Hammer' skill to stick a banana onto your fork, then once Pagurus has eaten the banana on your back, move the hammer banana onto your back and repeat. Not viable in this challenge of course, lmao. I think I just made this comment because I like saying banana, it's a funny word. Also, THANK YOU another person who recognizes the OPness of Tactical Tentacle, it's the only MSG attack I regularly use, as far as I'm concerned an 'Umami build' is just another term for a 'Tactical Tentacle build' lmao.
Ok, now do it without a fork and shell. I can help with a few skips (essentially adaptations only) Shallows, more like Shall No’s. We can skip the entirety of the shallows by simply clinging onto a wall on the western tower of Slacktide, getting into the castle without shells and talking to the Duchess, then grabbing the grappling hook. Then use the grappling hook and go the normal way, then when you’re at the top of the western tower, don’t go for the moon snail, she’ll soft lock you. So what you want to do is jump onto the left castle bumps until you see the main hall, jump for the shifted ledge, and you should be able to grapple onto the hook. Then just escape slacktide via the arches. Nothing to truly do until new carcina. Where we need to get poked by this random sea urchin until he gives up the Urchin Adaptation. After we skidaddle to the western side of the map to get the bobbit trap, then head straight for Topoda. No Detours. After skipping Heika. Have fun trying to beat Topoda.
I did this challenge myself a bit ago for my channel but the way you went about some things was so different from me and entertaining! I didn’t even know about that infinite jump glitch that woulda helped so much 😭
I did the same challenge [on PC, so I could use adaptations early on] slightly before the Crit1kal speedrun challenge, recorded it [had to do it twice due to some OBS issues], just haven't had the time to edit it up nicely. Even managed to do it uppies-less. My notes [though you likely know some/all of these and may have intentionally done things differently for entertainment purposes]: 1) After getting Umami, I snuck past the WWW, got my parry, climbed up to where the WWW could hit me, died, respawned at the checkpoint for his fight, went backwards through the level, did some sliding parkour to escape, then did a clip through a wall in the castle [next to the chest containing a bloodstar limb] to get through to the second area. 2) You can skip Inkerton 1 by going through the Grove to the entrance for the Consortium, and sneaking past it. 3) The Ceviche Sisters can also be skipped entirely, as you're able to parkour up the side of the cliff for the map piece 4) There's a non-uppies method for getting back to the first area - facing the big ramp, the left hand side of the coral has enough height and speed to swim across, and then some creative parkour can get you up onto the bridge 5) I... did not know about the poison ticking up your Umami with the Zooplankton. That would have been so much easier. I used the Valve shell, the Yakult shell, the Zooplankton, and the Urchin adaptation to alternate between charging my Umami, recovering my health, and lobbing bombs at the boss. I was taking chip damage from the shockwave and the projectiles, but the toaster and the 'food processor' were free. 5a) The first time I ran through this, I didn't get Umami until much later, but if the fish minions actually hit Voltai, you could do this run without initially getting Umami, as for whatever reason, if you've never unlocked Umami you can [at time of recording] use an adaptation once per respawn. 6) You can clip through the Inkerton 2 arena, so I did that. The fight is fun as hell though, I won't deny it. 7) You can also sneak past Camtscha. 8) My Praya strat was using a fully-upgraded Urchin with the Umami upgrade that gives you an Umami charge when you kill something with an Umami skill. For whatever reason, the boss killing the minions with explosions recharged my Umami. 9) Firth strat for me was about the same, except using Urchin adaptation instead. Only major difference is I was recovering Umami with Another Crab, the equip that revives you automatically on death, because it also gives you 3 Umami charges. 9a) I tested fish minions on Firth with invulnerability - first phase is okay, but second phase took literal hours because he's juuust too high to hit consistently with the fish. 10) I fishhooked the shrimpy boi. We did a lot of the same stuff, and it made me happy to see that. All of that combined... the only thing stopping this run from being doable glitchless is the WWW, I think. You uppies'd out of it, and I never killed it to begin with.
HELL YES, FINALLY! I did this like 3 weeks after the game came out and I don’t made videos so I didn’t know how to.. well make a video on it. I’ve been waiting for a challenge runner to pick it up because it’s the most fun challenge run of any game I’ve ever done. It took me like 3 weeks of testing boss skips and messing with every invisible wall in the game. And at the time no sequence breaking was known for the game cause it just came out. I loved slamming my head against the wall for this challenge and it felt so rewarding beating it. Psyched for the video!!! Edit: I’m surprised you just fought the bosses straight out with rollout. I wasn’t nearly skilled enough at the time so I basically skipped through areas till I could get phytoplankton and get umami from taking hits.
Man, i love your music. I still get the "Welcome to the middle of the video" melody from your elden ring video stuck in my head from time to time. And this random story song did not disappoint!
As someone that learned the speedrun route for that MoistCr1TiKaL challenge it's very funny seeing some of the ways you skip some things when there are different solutions. For example Pagurus can just jump off the stage instead of feeding him bananas.
I'm aware but then I wouldn't have been able to make the repeated banana joke. Bear in mind that I often make choices of how to do things in vids based on how entertaining they will be to script

I’ve not seen anyone talk about it (and I’m totally open to knowing I just missed it) but my first thought on seeing Nephro was that it was a super obvious Gyoubu reference.
