The Melting refers to a progression from the 7 cold hells, ending with liberation in the Song for A. Nico needed a special singer, with an enlightened soul - he chose Angelina for that. Just as an interesting side note - the lowest hell in Buddhist philosophy is (in Romanised form) AVICII - Angelina worked with a Swedish song writer/producer in 2015, on an advert for Volvo - Tim Bergling - Angelina considered him to be a dear friend - his stage name was Avicii - on 20th April 2018 he died by suicide. That is one of my favorites by Angelina. I believe it shows her emotional depth as a very young girl. She seems to be illustrating both his feelings as well as her own in the song. When she sings, "They say I'm too young to understand," I believe she is showing that she is not too young to understand what has just happened to her friend.
That 'harp like' tone she injects, reminds me of how her mentor Billie Holiday said that she always enjoyed trying to emulate actual musical instruments with her voice. I remember Angelina doing it before when she performed 'Mount Everest' on stage. When it comes to total musicality, this girl is the most complete package you will find in a vocalist.

Apparently a great place for a romantic interlude, hidden between ridges of harvested barley. This is another song that is totally unique in her vast discography. This sounds like it should be in an epic movie from the past.

Nico obviously heard her at ten and knew she would be perfect for the song to close out his album. Her articulation was stunning and we did find out her pronunciation of 'rigs' was correct. You couldn't stop the video because her voice was so soothing but dynamic at the same time and every line she sang told us a story and even beyond that, every word she sang captured our full attention. I believe she recorded the video in California and Nico's instrumental part of the album was recorded in London. And, A-Aron, what about the violins closing out the precious piece of music? Although the song and Angelina's performance hasn't received the acclaim it certainly deserves most angels agree this is one of her finest performances ever.

So I'm pretty sure that she recorded her vocals while she was still 12. Angelina and Nico Cartosio never physically met, so the instrumentals and her vocals were recorded separately. This Robert Burns poem (Rigs O’ Barley) was originally sung as an old Scottish folk dance. Needless to say, it sounds nothing like this. Nico Cartosio is a classical composer who wrote this Song for A (Angelina), the only one with lyrics on his whole album.

I looked it up when I first heard this, and it said you could pronounce it either way-rigs or rig-ges. Her choice. I think she thought it needed another syllable to better complement the music. There are some nuances in the English language that she never learned growing up 😊such as saying “the” before a vowel and “thuh”before a consonant. She might, however, have learned them by now.

Probably good that her English was not so good back then. A ridge of barley would not be very comfortable for the activity alluded to. However, a barley rig would suit just fine.

This is one of her most impressive works. I know of no one that can take a song from any genre, any era, any emotional bent and sing it like they have been doing only that style their entire life and were an accomplished high level professional in their 30's or 40's. Or as some have stated here---a song that was a EDM club banger and slow it down and turn it into a ballad/tribute to a friend who had passed. She is the gift that keeps on giving. Her voice here is like a soothing breeze that wafts across the barley. I'm told that 'ridges' is indeed the correct pronunciation here. It's not standard English, Burns famously writing in his Low Scots dialect. However, 'blythe' was a mispronunciation, one of a very few she makes, along with 'she's' for 'her' (Portrait of a Child and Oslo), 'knock' with the 'k' (Welcome to My World) and 'sooze' for 'sews' in House of the Rising Sun. OK, one is actually a grammar mistake. The surprising thing with Angelina is that even though you know she will surprise you, she still surprises you. Plenty more surprises in store!
the Rigs of barely is how it was written and pronounced in the original poem, but obviously with a Scottish accent. I think the composer changed the pronouncement to suit the song himself

The album "Melting " was released on April 19th, when Angelina was 13 years 3 months old. So I'm pretty sure that she recorded her vocals while she was still 12. Angelina and Nico Cartosio never physically met, so the instrumentals and her vocals were recorded separately.

This Robert Burns poem (Rigs O’ Barley) was originally sung as an old Scottish folk dance. Needless to say, it sounds nothing like this. Nico Cartosio is a classical composer who wrote this Song for A (Angelina), the only one with lyrics on his whole album.
I purchased the album Melting on the strength that Angelina is on it! I don’t regret it! It’s an amazing album.

I looked it up when I first heard this, and it said you could pronounce it either way-rigs or rig-ges. Her choice. I think she thought it needed another syllable to better complement the music. There are some nuances in the English language that she never learned growing up 😊such as saying “the” before a vowel and “thuh”before a consonant. She might, however, have learned them by now.

Thanks Aron for reviewing this beautiful song from Nico and Angelina. Nico released his Album "Melting" in 2019, Angelina would not be 10-11 but most likely 13 when she recorded this song for Nico, she was in LA. This is what he wrote about the song and Angelina: The composers description:
"Song for A is the only song on the album. It is performed by Angelina Jordan, a very young and very talented singer. I needed a bright final for my instrumental album. After the series of cold hells and Melting itself I longed for a song of a liberated soul, a soul that was set free from suffering. So, I remembered a beautiful poem by Robert Burns^ and wrote this song especially for Angelina. And she gave a sensual performance." Cheers. Stay Well.
Adele would sure struggle with the intonation in these complete different scales, especially with leading tones sounding even before the instruments come in.

I have often wondered how much she understood at that age as to the nuances of what that poem was referring to.
Probably good that her English was not so good back then. A ridge of barley would not be very comfortable for the activity alluded to. However, a barley rig would suit just fine.

This is one of her most impressive works. I know of no one that can take a song from any genre, any era, any emotional bent and sing it like they have been doing only that style their entire life and were an accomplished high level professional in their 30's or 40's. Or as some have stated here---a song that was a EDM club banger and slow it down and turn it into a ballad/tribute to a friend who had passed. She is the gift that keeps on giving. Her voice here is like a soothing breeze that wafts across the barley. I'm told that 'ridges' is indeed the correct pronunciation here. It's not standard English, Burns famously writing in his Low Scots dialect. However, 'blythe' was a mispronunciation, one of a very few she makes, along with 'she's' for 'her' (Portrait of a Child and Oslo), 'knock' with the 'k' (Welcome to My World) and 'sooze' for 'sews' in House of the Rising Sun. OK, one is actually a grammar mistake. The surprising thing with Angelina is that even though you know she will surprise you, she still surprises you. Plenty more surprises in store!

the Rigs of barely is how it was written and pronounced in the original poem, but obviously with a Scottish accent. I think the composer changed the pronouncement to suit the song himself
I was under the impression like many others in the chat that she is 13 nearly 14 at the time of this.

She can't have been any older than 12. The album came out just after she turned 13 but took more than a year to make.
