When I was a young child. We were shopping at TJ Maxx and my father placed his hand on my shoulder slid me over into a closure rack and said stay here. Amen had just hit his wife. Maybe it was his girlfriend. My father walked over, spoke to the man Knocked him clean unconscious. When the police arrived and questioned everyone, I remember this as clear as day. The officer asked “what gave you authority to intervene? “ my dad replied.” I’m Irish.” The officer wrote that down in his little notebook and we went about our day.
Thought I’d share that with you. I love to hear people talk about Saint Patrick. One of the great missionaries of history. I really appreciate the work you’ve done here. Thank you.

Love your little story about your Dad. I had a similar experience, I'm Irish and live in UK. A few years ago I had a job in a bank where there was enormous pressure put on all 120 staff by Operations management to keep increasing our outputs. I didn't take any of this pressure lying down and turned the whole thing on the management. Normally I would have lost my job but I didn't. Nonetheless the situation persisted with operations using different tactics. From what I could see they were been unreasonable. I didn't change and everybody including middle management were asking me how I got away with it. One day the operations management, now aware of the talking about me, told the floor that if people are wondering why I was permitted to be heard, they said it's because she is Irish and that's just the way the Irish are. I did win two victories though on behalf of the staff, but I was pleasantly surprised by how they took it.

Saint Patrick was a Briton (Welsh) kidnapped into slavery by Scoti (Irish) raiders and taken to Ireland before eventually converting the Irish, then Irish monks brought Christianity to Dal Riada, Pictland, and Northumbria.

The men were missionaries too, not just recluses. Those monks had to take up arms against vikings to preserve what they wrote, its a misrepresentation to imagine them as recluse and unbothered. You must mention things like the irish colleges. The fact we taught france how to make a proper vinyard. Etc. If you consider the entire history of ireland, you would not consider it unlikely. The unlikely oart was becoming the writers of the "new world" who created the modern foundation myth of the west. We live in their design, by virtue of the british empire, our most unlikely benefactors in that regard. Poets, writers, and thinkers, flung to everycorner of the world with a deep distaste for empire and a natural philosophy that others would coin classical liberalism.

Incidentally, Ireland is also known as the land of Saints and scholars, and the Irish recount that with pride. However, in recent years as an Irish person, I have begun to question the meaning of 'scholar' spiritually in these times. In the modern period, specifically, I would say that Satan is a scholar.
Modernism and theory with all its abstractions has now come to an end. The new person is practical, someone who can get to the heart of the matter swiftly, with personability, kindness and forthrightness; and has little time for making things up, as the working classes would put it. As an Irish person living in the UK, I have found the recent Nigerian Christians immigrants to have that quality. I worked with a few.
