Not saving cds for the right spot has been one of the biggest gains I have made. Both tanking and DPS. Better to overuse it than to have it ready and be face tanking the floor.
I picked tanking in a few days and i was trying various classes but when i got to vdh, that was my last tank class i played, it whent so smooth cause i was using all my cd including hard cast of meta. In the other tanks since i didn’t know what to press i was holding my cd for so long that i used 2 times a dungeon. (PS: still levelling btw)
Not using CD is the biggest issues, most tanks don’t realize their meant to be used in a “cycle” now, to shave off a ton of damage and be able to heal yourself during those “off” times. Once I learned that tanking got a lot easier and I hardly found myself taking much damage!
Just some notes on Taunt: It does 3 things: 1) Sets your threat = threat of the current aggro target, 2) applies fixate (forces the enemy to attack you for X secs), and 3) gives you a temporary threat generation buff. It does indeed modify your threat. I think what you are seeing is that when you taunt and don't attack, the other folks are attacking or have latent DoTs/HoTs running, which then "re-eclipses" your threat, retaking aggro (110% for melee range, 130% for at range) after the fixate ends. I spent a lot of time testing this. The easiest way is to have someone without reflective damage/healing talents body pull something, hit it once with something that doesn't apply a debuff or dot, you taunt, then nobody do anything. The add will stay on you after the fixate wears off. I definitely don't disagree with the premise of your statements about attacking after taunting (I fully agree), just talking about the mechanics here.
Correct, the reason I said the way I said it is new tanks think one taunt will solve every problem. It won't. You still be need generate threat on that target when taunt ends, they remain in your threat, which taunt will facilitate, but cannot solely be relied on. Like you posted yourself, there's complicated math to threat, when trying to put a point across sometimes a more direct, simplified version is needed to do so.. Im still explaining that space bar equals jump in Vortex Pinnacle to way more people than I care to admit.
I'm just not started a Prot Pala. And yes, I frequently use my CD,s and so bigger help for the healer. But I don't understand anything. My friends says, with a prot pally I need off healing. Is that right??😢 ❤
Hi man! Cool videos! I have one question: I know its a silly question from who is a tank too, but which is more fun? Tanking or healing? Im Kinda into tanking and would like to try a prot warrior, but I dont know if I can/would organise the party members. Healing is fun because I can keep people alive. Whats your opinion about it? Thanks! Have a nice day!
Most tanks have multiple defensive gold ounce and it's not a bad idea to keep just one of them in reserve for the oh crap moments, but you should be cycling out all the other ones consistently. As a blood decay, I kind of sit on ice bath fortitude but I use vampiric blood on cooldown dancing, green weapon on cooldown tombstone on cooldown and lichborn often. As a protection pallet in, I tend to sit on bubble tons, but I feel like that should be used more often in guardian. The ancient kings should be the one I sit on
In my mind I aim to use at least 1 cd on every pack and as a pally multiple because you have so many and if you feel like you don't need them then pull bigger and make your dps happier.
Maz! Appreciate your content. 2 Quick questions on Bear. I've been watching some world first bears and they seem to cast Ironfur on CD. Should we prioritize it that often, and if so, would it be worth macro'ing it to Thrash for example? Next question, I see such a discrepancy of Bear tanks with mastery & verse. I've seen one of the highest raider io Bears have 5500 Mastery & less than 1000 Verse. Then the very next Bear has 4000 verse & 1500 mastery. What is the real difference in those two stats & does it depend on talents?
I personally don't macro it because I like to have more control over my rage, but it's something a lot of people do. As per vers/mastery, there's some back and forth on that, mastery will increase your max hp, and since Frenzied regen is % based, there can be a lot of heal ling value there while making yourself an HP sponge.. Really it comes down to what talents you wanna run and how you want to play
I don't know if this changed or not but when you taunt something, what it should do is automatically put you 10% above the highest threat person. But as you said, if you don't continue to build threat, they will overcome that very quickly
Healer main here, great video. I exclusively PUG and I have to say that generally most tanks are pretty self-sufficient, but there are a small handful that just need constant baby-sitting. DF and in particular season 2 there is a lot of group-wide damage rather than single target damage, I probably spend less time healing tanks than ever. I am thinking about doing a little M+ tanking, what tanks would you recommend as being the least stressful to play? I've played them all at some point or another, the least appealing to me are probably Druid and Paladin due to how popular it already is. However, Monk/DH are appealing. Been a long time since I've played Warrior, how are they these days? Thanks!
Vengeance with the new tier is an absolute monster, insanely solid and stupid damage. Brewmaster is probably the most complex tank spec to play, but highly rewarding when you figure it out, and it can handle all the affixes as well as paladin Prot war, due to the utility meta of this season there's a lot of things that can be feeling like you're lacking, but God damn it's zugs hard and when played well, you take no damage almost ever and the amount of things you can spell reflect for insane boss damage, chefs kiss(me doing the Italian fingers kissing my mouth right now, yes I actually did it) Hope that helps!
@@mazthemetaltailor Thanks man! I appreciate the reply. I have Monk at cap, so I'll try a few very low keys. I'm keen to try Warrior I think as it's been the longest time, so I'll be levelling that first, then I'll perhaps get my VDH to cap. Many thanks!
Returned to wow in DF. Started doing M+ mid season 1. Healing my DH friend. I thought DHs didn't need healing... And then I healed another DH.. I am guessing my friend was just good at using defensives 😅
Curious what people's thoughts are on this; i don't pull more than 8 at a time due to most classes losing dps over 5. I try to keep 5 at all time. Better to do that or just pull everything?
Noone looses his dps on big pulls, mobs just get lower damage over 5th target. That means that 5 targets get full damage, and other will get less, but they get it, if there's no hard 5 tag cap. If u can handle big pull by ur mitigation and healer - pull more. If u see no interupts, no stops, dps don't use defensives and burn in fire - don't pull much. Go safe - timer will allow u to get ur key.
One other thing, I have noticed a lot of people dont want to use utility or interrupt because they have to stop their dps, I would rather have my dps be in the basement and the run goes well.
There’s bigger issues at play if someone is fully stopping dps to interrupt something. Interrupt is off the gcd, it shouldn’t take more then half a second to hit a keybind.
Yeah, threat so much easier today. TBC had a different threat system that was a lot harder. In WoTLK they changed it to where a tank holds threat and dps just AOE every thing to death. People didn’t like it but the new players it made it easy. Cataclysm went back to the older system and CC was brought back. I loved it and so did my guild. On the boards, people cried and cried it was hard. Those people didn’t came in during WoTLK and didn’t understand Crowd Control. Screw us who were with you from day. Blizzard forgot this was not a shooter.
I agree in that most tanks aren’t using their cooldowns regularly. Myself included. Honestly we are probably too much of boomers who still play like it’s Vanilla or TBC where we treated Shield Wall like a 30 minute cooldown, and not 3 😂
I'm just used to not being able to rely on my healer in any capacity, so I worry about myself first. Fuck the group if they're incapable of supporting me like I support them, I'll use my cooldowns when it's most beneficial for me until things improve.

Maybe a video going over tanks utilities and which dungeon they are useful in this season?

I did not know this about taunt. Thank you
About the accurate, Taunt insures you have that targets top total threat +1. It is your responsibility to outpace the dps before the duration expires.
In Shadowlands your BDK tips turned me from a PvP Paul to a early fatherhood BDK that everyone wants to bring. GG bro glad you’re making vids!

Warp deplete

I can always tell when a tank is using a defensive or not when I’m healing.
Also helps for threat if you have dps that know what it means to group a pull, and dont just go bananas off rip on every pull haha.
I used to love doing 5 tank keys in Legion and BfA... 🤪
