    so they aren't just making the monsters a little more difficult to represent better the CR, they also changed how to calculate the CR of an encounter, thats seems really good!!

      @MrFrenchyge 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      They've really just condensed the 4 difficulties down to 3: med is now low, hard is now moderate, and deadly is now high. Sounds like the tweaks to the numbers and the monsters is only above level ~10.

    A good railroad has stations and track switches.

    • @boniakarlo
      @boniakarlo 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@thatradiogeekmost one shots are railroads. Most of the short OFFICIAL adventures released (Radiant Citadel, Golden Vault...) are railroads. Some official medium campaigns (Dragon Heist) have huge railroady aspects. Railroad doesnt mean BAD, it means that the world the players are in has some charachters or events that have SPECIFIC motives and actions and so they will kind of happen "no matter what". Unless the players stops them, of course. Railroad isnt bad PER SE, it just means that most of the enviroment is chill and only some specific things are going to happen.
      Railroad is bad only as a DM STYLE. When the DM says "so you go there, now you rest, now you eat..." but that can happen even in an open setting campaign. So adventure railroad and DM style railroad are 2 very different things and you should not mix them.

    They brought up agriculture gods at the end. I had a high tier game about that topic with the difference between upper and lower plains. Not all lower plains are heavily scared and baron. Devil emissaries would show up legally in upper plains to chat with God's spoke person about agricultural problems.

      Each column has the face of a different PC. A few others have the faces of PC backstory characters. A few more have the faces of random people.
      As you walk around, suddenly you hear a whoosh of falling sand. One of the statues of the PCs crumbles. That PC disappears, and the next statue in line animates, changing colour and the PC is back.
      Are the PCs all constructs? Is this a clone factory? Is it a blessing, a curse, or something else? Who did this, and why the PCs and these other (say 10) people? It is your job to find out!

    Nothing connected with me more as a long term DM when I play in someone else's campaign that the shopkeepers and other NPCs are just always blunt and rude. Do you not want returning customers? Do you not want the heroes to save you from the monsters? If anything, we just then help the rogue steal their stuff and we leave the town to its fate.

    • @alexbucsp
      @alexbucsp 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +20

      As a DM I always like to create NPCs that are the opposite to the stereotypical fantasy trope. My go to is the town Blacksmith, a craft Mom with a Louisiana accent with a fully pink and tidy store, she makes custom hand made sets of armor with an options like bedazzled, holographic and the classic Matte pastel pink.

      Do people still do this? It must be the hospitality industry professional in me, but I can't do that. Sure the odd jerk is going to come up. But people like money, especially greedy people. Do what you need to do to get people back. I've always hated playing games with the stereotypical "You'll never know if they're going to betray you or not" NPCs. If I play a game from 1 - 20, maybe 2 should be like that.

    There is a another category of adventure hooks besides patron, supernatural, or happenstance. It assumes the PCs are self-motivated adventurers looking to explore the unknown and search for treasure and lost magic. These are rumors of a lost treasure, forgotten spells or magic items - go find the good stuff before someone else does. That's really all you need for an adventure. You don't need a story. You don't need rails. And you don't need to create a linear sequence of encounters. Hopefully there is some attention paid to site-based adventures for a traditional adventuring party who are out looking for loot.

      Since you obviously did not listen the video, I can inform you that it is part of the marketing campaign for the updated version of the Dungeon Masters Guide for D&D where the developers are talking about the content to create interest so more people buy the book. The book will be released for sale November 12th. The company Larian studios that made Baldurs Gate 3 have already said that they will not be making a BG4 so don't expect such a game to be released by any CRPG developer in this decade if ever. Have a nice day and consider joining the community of roleplayers who play D&D by investing in the game books and start playing with some of you friends. Its a lot of fun.
