- This video demonstrates the process for changing the gear shift console bulb on a 2013 Mazda CX-5. The process should only take about 15 mins and is easy enough for someone with minimal ability to complete with patience and the right tools.
Great video... inspired me to try.
For anyone struggling to find this light bulb (UK), I managed to change the light bulb with a "Bright White T5 W3W" LED light bulb and can confirm it works.

Just did this fix in my daughter’s CX5. Perfect tutorial. Hardest part for me was unplugging the little clip between the consul and shift plate. Years later, but it is still paying dividends.

Mine lasted a month when the car was first purchased and has been replaced three times by the dealer. It's gone out again but I won't have the dealer change it since they scratched the console last time. I'm glad this video exists. Thank you.
awesome! I was able to remove the bulb without removing the other piece. Thanks for finding the bulb. It's now $7 seven years later.
This works on a 2014 as well. I followed your instructions, everything went as smooth as possible. Start to finish, less than 10 minutes!!! Bulb 2-pack was $6 at Advance Auto Parts and Sylvania Bulb part # was dead on!! We bought this vehicle used and were also told there was no bulb in there by Mazda dealer. What did we do before TH-cam? I only wish I could give you like 5 thumbs up!!! Thank you so much!!!

when i turn off my mazda 2014 isport engine gets off but thr radio keeps on do you gyz know what wrong with this i think my parking sensor not working fine if you know tell me plz??
happened with my 2014 cx-5 also , its a problem that mazda is aware of, it's the shifter sensor, needs to be replaced, dealer wanted $200, i emailed corporate mazda and got them involved, because this is a known issue on many mazdas. They covered the entire cost of the repair , took it to dealer , didn't cost me a dime

Thanks for the vid! Definitely helped me went with the same bulb you got from Oreillys hopefully it lasts. It was a loose fit, I just gently spread the wires out on the base of the bulb and then put it in. Thanks again
That certainly helped,thanks.I got the panel unclipped and couldn,t get the wires unplugged.I shifted the lever all the way back,flipped the panel out and upside down,and then it was easy to unplug.The rest was easy.

Awesome bro!! Had the same problem, and very well explained. I was actually able to take the console off with my fingers and replaced it with a generic bulb that cost $1.50 as opposed to Mazda's one for $12 and would take 3 or 4 days to ship from overseas. So thanks for the video.

All of this worked perfectly, thank you for the video.
My only issue is that the center plastic piece seems to still float around even after clipped down. I don't remember if it did that before I got in there or not as I never really pushed on it. It's not moving randomly, but if you push it, it slides about a quarter inch or so forward and back.
Yeah, I know exactly what you are talking about. I was wondering the same thing. But I realized that the housing floats around until you clip the whole assembly back in place. It's held in place by the zigzag slot that the shifter sits in.

Thanks, it worked. My husband did have a hard time getting the bulb fit snug, but after playing with it for about 10 minutes it worked. Do you know if this illuminates the turn signal and wiper? those do not illuminate at night.
Those are bulbs in the instrument cluster.

Sergey Shlykovich when I bought my car and the console was not lit. I asked dealer and they said it’s not supposed to light up. I believed and got used to it since I can see all the shift positions inside the gauge cluster.

Sylvania 74 bulb fits (1.4w), there is also 73 that is 1.1w
i tried to replace mine with this bulb but the bulb was loose and couldnt get it to fit snug, as i would assemble it, the light would go on and off when things move. So i tried to shove some aluminum foil in there to tighten it but now the bulb doesnt light up at all, nor does the lights on the climate controls. Remove the alum foil, same issue, wonder what i messed up and how lol
I'm curious to know if that bulb is still working for you, or if you have had any issues with it since you've installed it(or anyone for that matter).

Yes. E.g., on the 2014 CX-5 on the dashboard instrument panel, at the bottom of the tachometer there's a lighted indicator that tells you which shift position or "gear" the transaxle ("transmission") is in. E.g, D (drive), N (neutral), P (park). Additionally, if using manual mode, the indicator tells you which gear position you are in, 1, 2, 3, 4, ...
If on the console the bulb is burned out look at the dash indicator if needed. (My light is burned out, but at night when I can't see the console, I know how to shift, by feel, but I always double check the shift position by looking at the dashboard indicator.)

they say i need Lever Select Shifter so total over $700, so I replaced my 2014 CX-5 in less than 5 minutes and
i get Light Bulb from amazon $6. Thanks!
